spaṣṭamevāha

so'yaṃ te'bhihitastāta

bhagavān viśvabhāvanaḥ .

samāsena harernānyad

anyasmātsadasacca yat .. [bhāgavatam 2.7.50]

so'yaṃ samāsena saṅkṣepeṇābhihitaḥ . kathaṃ taṭasthalakṣaṇenaivetyāha .

satkāryaṃ sthūlamaśuddhajīvajagadākhyaṃ cetanācetanaṃ vastu . asat

karaṇaṃ sūkṣmaṃ śuddhajīvapradhānākhyaṃ cidacidvastu ca yattatsarvaṃ

hareranyanna bhavati sūkṣmasya tacchaktirūpatvātsthūlasya tatkārya

rūpatvāditi bhāvaḥ . idameva śrīhaṃsadevenoktaṃ ahameva na

matto'nyaditi budhyadhvamañjasā iti [bhāgavatam 11.13.24] . jagatastadananyatve'pi

śuddhasya tasya taddoṣasāṅkaryaṃ nāstītyāha anyasmāditi ..2.7.. śrī

brahmā śrīnāradam ..61..

tatrānanyatve yuktiṃ vivṛṇoti pañcabhiḥ

ādāvante janānāṃ sad

bahirantaḥ parāvaram .

jñānaṃ jñeyaṃ vaco vācyaṃ

tamo jyotistvayaṃ svayam .. [bhāgavatam 7.15.57]

janānāṃ dehādīnāmādau kāraṇatvena ante cāvadhitvena yatparamātma

lakṣaṇaṃ sarvakāraṇaṃ vastu sadvartamānaṃ tadeva svayaṃ bahirbhogyaṃ

antabhoktṛ paravaraṃ coccanīcaṃ tamo'prakāśaḥ jyotiḥ prakāśaśca sphurati

nānyat . anyasya tadvinā svataḥ sphuraṇānirūpyatvāditi bhāvaḥ .

nanu kathaṃ tarhi tasmādatyantapṛthagivāthajātaṃ pratīyate tatrāha

ābādhito'pi hyābhāso

yathā vastutayā smṛtaḥ .

durghaṭatvādaindriyakaṃ

tadvadarthavikalpitam .. [bhāgavatam 7.15.58]

ābādhitastarkavirodhena sarvato bādhitaḥ svātantryasattāyāḥ sakāśān

nirasto'pi yathā ābhāsaḥ sūryādipratiraśmirbālādibhiḥ pṛthakprakāśam

ānatādarthanādvastutayā svatantrapadārthatayā smṛtaḥ kalpitaḥ tadvad

aindriyaka sarvaṃ mūḍhaiḥ svatantrārthatvena vividhaṃ kalpitaṃ tattu na

tattvadṛṣṭyā svātantryanirūpaṇasya durghaṭatvādityarthaḥ .

tadevāha dvābhyām

kṣityādīnāmihārthānāṃ

chāyā na katamāpi hi .

na saṅghāto vikāro'pi

na pṛthaṅnānvito mṛṣā .. [bhāgavatam 7.15.59]

kṣityādīnāṃ pañcabhūtānāṃ chāyā aikyabuddhyālambanarūpaṃ dehādi

saṅghātārambhapariṇāmānāṃ madhye katamāpyanyatamāpi na bhavati .

na tāvatteṣāṃ saṅghāto vṛkṣāṇāmiva vanamekadeśākarṣaṇe

sarvākarṣaṇānupapatteḥ . na hyekasmin vṛkṣa ākṛṣṭe sarvaṃ vanam

ākṛṣyate . na ca vikāraḥ ārabdho'vayavī . apiśabdātpariṇāmo'pi . kutaḥ .

kimavayavebhyaḥ pṛthagārabhyate pariṇamate ca tadanvito vā . na tāvad

atyantaṃ pṛthaktathā apratīteḥ . na cānvitaḥ . sa kiṃ pratyavayavamanveti

aṃśena vā . ādye aṅgulimātre'pi dehabuddhiḥ syāt . dvitīye tasyāpy

aṃśāṅgīkāre satyanavasthāpātaḥ syāt . ato dehādeḥ svātantryeṇāvasthitir

mṛṣaiveti .

evaṃ dehādeḥ svātantryeṇānirūpyatvamuktvā taddhetūnāṃ kṣityādīnām

api tathaivānirūpyatvamāha

dhātavo'vayavitvācca

tanmātrāvayavairvinā .

na syurhyasatyavayaviny

asannavayavo'ntataḥ .. [bhāgavatam 7.15.60]

dhārayantīti . dhātavo mahābhūtāni tanmātraiḥ sūkṣmairavayavairvinā na

syuḥ . avayavitvātteṣāmapi . tarhyavayava eva svatantra iti cettatrāha ukta

prakāreṇāvayavini nirūpayitumasati avayavo'pyantato nirūpayitumasanniva

syāt . avayavipratītyanyathānupapattiṃ vinā paramāṇulakṣaṇāvayavasad

bhāve pramāṇābhāvādityarthaḥ . taduktaṃ pañcame

evaṃ niruktaṃ kṣitiśabdavṛttamity [bhāgavatam 5.12.9] ādi . tasmādaikya

buddhyālambanarūpaṃ yatpratīyate tatsarvatra paramātmalakṣaṇaṃ sarva

kāraṇaṃ vastveveti sādhūktamādāvante janānāṃ sadityādinā . evameva

tṛtīye'pyuktam

iti tāsāṃ svaśaktīnāṃ satīnāmasametya saḥ .

prasuptalokatantrāṇāṃ niśāmya gatimīśvaraḥ ..

kālasaṃjñā tato devīṃ vibhracchaktimurukramaḥ .

trayoviṃśatittattvānāṃ gaṇaṃ yugapadāviśat ..

so'nupraviṣṭo bhagavāṃśceṣṭārūpeṇa taṃ gaṇam

bhinnaṃ saṃyojayāmāsa suptaṃ karma prabodhayan .. iti [bhāgavatam 3.6.13]

ataeva yasya pṛthivī śarīramityādiśrutau [Bṛhadū 3.7.3] sarvasya

paramātmaśarīratvena prasiddhiḥ paramātmanastu śarīratvena . tadevam

avayavarūpeṇa pradhānapariṇāmaḥ sarvatrāvayavī tu paramātmavastveveti

siddham . tato'pyamithyātvameva jagata upapadyeta ..

nanu yadi paramātmavastveva sarvatrāvayavī dehaḥ syāttataśca tatraiva

brāhmaṇatvādisaṃjñāprāpte guṇadoṣahetū vidhiniṣedhāvapi syātām . tau

ca na sambhavataḥ . tasmādanya evāvayavī yujyate . ityāśaṅkyāha

syātsādṛśyabhramastāvad

vikalpe sati vastunaḥ .

jāgratsvāpau yathā svapne

tathā vidhiniṣedhatā .. [bhāgavatam 7.15.61]

vastunaḥ paramātmano vikalpe saṃśaye satīti tasya tādṛśatvena nirṇayo yāvan

na syātityarthaḥ . tāvadeva tasmātsarvaikyabuddhinidānātpṛthag

dehaikyabuddhiḥ sādṛśyabhramaḥ syāt . pūrvāparāvayavānusandhāne sati

parasparamāsajyaikatra sthitatvenāvayavatvasādhāraṇyena caikyasādṛśyāt

pratyavayavamekatayā pratīteḥ . so'yaṃ deha iti bhrama eva bhavatītyarthaḥ .

prativṛkṣaṃ tadidaṃ vanamitivat . yathoktaṃ svayaṃ bhagavatā

so'yaṃ dīpo'rciṣāṃ yadvatsrotasāṃ tadidaṃ jalam .

so'yaṃ pumāniti nṝṇāṃ mṛṣā dhīrgormṛṣāyuṣām .. iti [bhāgavatam 11.22.45] .

tataśca tatraiva brāhmaṇatvādyabhimāne sati svapnavaiṣayakau jāgrat

svapnāviva tadviṣayakau vidhiniṣedhau syātāmityāha jāgraditi . tathā

tena prakāreṇa vidhervidhitā niṣedhasya niṣedhatetyarthaḥ . evaṃ

parasvabhāvakarmaṇi na praśaṃsenna garhayet .

viśvamekātmakaṃ paśyan prakṛtyā puruṣeṇa ca .. [bhāgavatam 11.28.1]

ityādirekādaśāṣṭaviṃśatitamādhyāyo jñeyaḥ . tatra ca kiṃ bhadraṃ kim

abhadraṃ vā dvaitasyāvastunaḥ kiyadityādikaṃ syātsādṛśyabhramastāvad

ityādyanusāreṇaiva vyākhyeyam . avastu yaddvaitaṃ tasyetyarthaḥ . tasmāt

svātantryeṇa nirūpaṇāśaktyā paramātmano ‘nanyadeva sarvamiti

prakaraṇārthaḥ ..

tvaṃ vāyuragniravanirviyadambu mātrāḥ

prāṇendriyāṇi hṛdayaṃ cidanugrahaśca .

sarvaṃ tvameva saguṇo viguṇaśca bhūman

nānyattvadastyapi manovacasā niruktam .. [bhāgavatam 7.9.48]

hṛdayamantarindriyaṃ mano buddhyāhaṅkāracittātmakaṃ, citśuddo jīvaḥ .

anugrahaḥ svasammukhīkaraṇaśaktiḥ . kiṃ bahunā saguṇo māyikaḥ

atha tasya māyāśaktikāryamāyājīvebhyo'nyatvaṃ ca spaṣṭayati

yatholmukādvisphuliṅgād

dhūmādvāpi svasambhavāt .

apyātmatvenābhimatād

yathāgniḥ pṛthagulmukāt .. [bhāgavatam 3.28.40]

bhūtendriyāntaḥkaraṇāt

pradhānājjīvasaṃjñitāt .

ātmā tathā pṛthagdraṣṭā

bhagavān brahmasaṃjñitaḥ .. [bhāgavatam 3.28.41]

ayamarthaḥ . svasambhavātsvopādānakāraṇātulmukātkāṣṭhamuṣṭy

upādhikāt . agnerhetoryā visphuliṅgo yaśca dhūmastasmāttasmādyathā

tattadupādānamagniḥ pṛthagyathā ca tasmādulmukāttadupādāna, asāv

agniḥ pṛthak . kīdṛśādapi tattrayādapyātmatvenābhimatātnāpakatayā

dhūme'gnyaṃśasadbhāvenāgnisvarūpatayā pratītādapi tathā visphuliṅga

sthānīyājjīvasaṃjñitājjīvātulmukasthānīyātpradhānāt

pradhānopādhikabhagavattejasaḥ dhūmasthānīyādbhūtādeḥ sarvopādāna

rūpo bhagavān pṛthak . ya evātmā svāṃśena tattadantaryāmitayā

paramātmā . kvacidadhikāriṇi nirviśeṣacinmātratayā sphuran brahma

saṃjñitaśca . yata eva draṣṭā teṣāmādimadhyāntāvasthā

sākṣīti ..3.28.. śrīkapiladevaḥ ..68..

tatra yeṣāṃ manaḥ paramātmani nāsti, te paramātmātmake jagatyasadaṃśam

eva gṛhṇanti, ye tu paramātmavidaste sadaṃśameva gṛhṇantītyāhur

bhāgavatāḥ .

sadiva manastirvṛttvayi vibhātyasadāmanujāt

sadabhimṛśantyaśeṣamidamātmatayātmavidaḥ .

na hi vikṛtiṃ tyajanti kanakasya tadātmatayā

svakṛtamanupraviṣṭamidamātmatayāvasitam .. [bhāgavatam 10.87.26]

tvayyasadavartamānaṃ yanmanastatkhalu trivṛttriguṇakārye jagati

vartamānaṃ sattvayi sadiva vartamānamiva vibhāti . darvīsūparasa

nyāyena svāvagāḍhe jagati sato'pi paramātmano grahaṇābhāvāt . na tu

vartamānameva vibhātītyarthaḥ . ataevāsadaṃśasya triguṇamāyāmayatvaṃ

manomayatvaṃ coktam

yadidaṃ manasā vācā

cakṣurbhyāṃ śravaṇādibhiḥ .

naśvaraṃ gṛhyamāṇaṃ ca

viddhi māyāmanomayam .. iti . [bhāgavatam 11.7.7]

ye tvātmavidastvaddhetoraaste āmanujātsopādhikajīvasvarūpam

abhivyāpya idamaśeṣaṃ jagadeva ātmatayā tvadrūpatayā sadabhimṛśanti

teṣāṃ sadaṃśa eva dṛṣṭirnānyatretyarthaḥ .

tatra dṛṣṭāntaḥ na hi vikṛtamiti . teṣāṃ kanakamātraṃ mṛgayamānānāṃ

kanakavaṇijāṃ hi kanakavikāre sundarakurūpākāratāyāṃ dṛṣṭirnāsti .

śuddhakanakamātragṛāhitvāttathātmavidāmapīti bhāvaḥ .

dārṣṭāntike'pi tadātmatve hetutrayamāhuḥ idaṃ jagatsvena sacchakti

viśiṣṭena upādānarūpeṇa tvayā kṛtaṃ paścātsiddhe'pi kārye kāraṇāṃśa

vyabhicāritayāntaryāmitayā ca svena tvayā praviṣṭaṃ punaḥ pralaye'py

ātmatayā sacchaktiviśiṣṭasadrūpatayaivāvasitaṃ ceti . evaṃ dṛṣṭānte'pi

vivecanīyam . tadetatsarvamabhipretyoktaṃ vaiṣṇave

jñānasvarūpamakhilaṃ

jagadetadabuddhayaḥ .

arthasvarūpaṃ paśyanto

bhrāmyante mohasamplave ..

ye tu jñānavidaḥ śuddha

cetasaste'khilaṃ jagat .

jñānātmakaṃ prapaśyanti

tadevaṃ pariṇāmādikaṃ sādhitam . vivartaśca parihṛtaḥ . tato vivarta

vādināmiva rajjusarpavanna mithyātvaṃ kintu ghaṭavannaśvaratvameva

tasya . tato mithyātvābhāve'pi trikālavyabhicārabhāvājjagato na sattvam .

vivartapariṇāmāsiddhatvena taddoṣadvayābhāvavatyeva hi vastūni sattvaṃ

vidhīyate . yathā paramātmani tacchaktau vā . sadeva saumyedamagra āsīd

ityādau idaṃśabdoktaṃ jagat . sūkṣmāvasthālakṣaṇatacchaktibrahmaṇor

mithastādātmyāpannayoḥ sacchabdavacanāt . ataḥ satkāryavādaśca

sūkṣmāvasthāmavalambyaiva pravartate . tadevaṃ sthite'pi punarāśaṅkate .

nanu sadupādānaṃ jagatkathaṃ tadvannaśvaratāmapi bhajanna khalu sat

syāt . yadi ca naśvaraṃ syāttarhi kathaṃ śuktirajatavatvyabhicāritvena

kevalavivartāntaḥ pāti na syāt . tadetatpraśnamuṭṭaṅkya pariharanti ..

sata idamutthitaṃ saditi cennanu tarkahataṃ

vyabhicarati kva ca kva ca mṛṣā na tathobhayayuk .

vyavahṛtaye vikalpa iṣito'ndhaparamparayā

bhramayati bhāratī ta uruvṛttibhirukthajaḍān .. [bhāgavatam 10.87.36]

idaṃ viśvaṃ dharmi saditi sādhyo dharmaḥ sata utpannatvātyadyata

utpannaṃ tatkhalu tadātmakameva dṛṣṭam . yathā kanakādutpannaṃ

kuṇḍalādikaṃ tadātmakaṃ tadvat . tatrotthitameva na tu śuktau rajatamiva .

tatrāropitamiti siddhāntinaḥ svamatamanūditaṃ naivetyāhuḥ .

nanu tarkahatamiti . apādānanirdeśena bhedapratīterviruddhahetutvāt .

nanu nāmedaṃ sādhayāmaḥ . kintu tata utpannatvena kuṇḍalādivadbhedam

anūdya pratiṣedhāmaḥ . tatrābheda eva syādityāśaṅkyānaikāntikatvena

hetuṃ dūṣayati . vyabhicarati kva ceti . kva ca kutrāpi kāraṇadharmānugatir

vyabhicarati . kāryakāraṇadharmasya savāṃśenānugataṃ bhavatīti niyamo

na vidyata ityarthaḥ . dahanādyudbhavae prabhādau dāhakatvādi

dharmādarśanāditi bhāvaḥ .

dve rūpe brahmaṇastasya mūrtaṃ cāmūrtameva ca .

kṣarākṣarasvarūpe te sarvabhūteṣvavasthite ..

akṣaraṃ tatparaṃ brahma kṣaraṃ sarvamidaṃ jagad . ity [Viড় 1.22.55] ādy

anantaram .

ekadeśasthitasyāgnerjyotsnā vistāriṇī yathā .

parasya brahmaṇaḥ śaktistathedamakhilaṃ jagat .. ity [Viড় 1.22.56] etad .

evaṃ vyākhyātaṃ śrīsvāmibhireva śrīviṣṇupurāṇe nanvakṣarasya para

brahmaṇastadvilakṣaṇaṃ kṣararūpaṃ kathaṃ syādityāśaṅkya

dṛṣṭāntenopapādayati ekadeśeti . prādeśikasyāgnerdīpāderdāhakasyāpi

tadvilakṣaṇā jyotsnā prabhā yathā tatprakāśavistārastathā brahmaṇaḥ

śaktikṛtavistāra idamakhilaṃ jagaditi .

prakṛtamanusarāmaḥ . nanu tarhi vyabhicāritve śuktirajatavadevāstu .

tatrāhuḥ kva ca mṛṣeti . kva ca śuktādāveva prātītikamātrasattākaṃ

rajatādikaṃ mṛṣā . anyatra yatra ubhayaṃ pratītimarthakriyākāritvaṃ ca

yunakti bhajate tatra na tathā mṛṣeti .

nanu kūṭatāmrikādiṣvarthakriyākāritāpi dṛśyete ityāśaṅkyāhuḥ

vyavṛtaya iti . krayavikrayādilakṣaṇavyavahārāyaiva vikalpo bhrama iṣṭaḥ .

na tu tattatprasiddhasamyagarthakriyākāritāyai . taddānādau yathāvat

puṇyaphalādikaṃ krītvā śuṇṭhījñānena bhakṣitamapi nārogyajanakaṃ

pratuyta mārakameva iti . tasmāttattatprasiddhasamyagarthakriyā

kāritayaiva satyatvamaṅgīkriyate . ekāṅgena sā kūṭasarpādau bhayādi

rūpā tvastyeveti na taddhetuḥ . kiṃ cāndhaparamparayeti .

sa ca krayavikrayādilakṣaṇavyavahāro'pi na tu yathārthatāmrikasyeva tad

vyavahārakuśaleṣvapi kintvandhaparamparayaiva . atastatra tadīya

kuśaleṣvasiddhatvena vyavahārasyābhyāsamātratvāttasmādanyathā

nānumeyam . dhūmābhāse hi vahnivyabhicārasyaucityameveti bhāvaḥ . tad

evamarthakriyākāritvenāstyevetarasya bhramavastuvailakṣyātsatyatvam

iti vivartavādini niraste punaranaśvaravādī pratyuttiṣṭhate .

nanvapāma somamamṛtā abhūma akṣayyaṃ ha vai cāturmāsayājinaḥ

sukṛtaṃ bhavatīti [ātharvaśira ūpaniṣad3] śrutyaiva karmaphalasya

nityatvapratipādanānnaśvaratvaṃ na ghaṭate ityāśaṅkyāhuḥ bhramayatīti .

he bhagavan te tava bhāratī uruvṛttibhiḥ vahnībhirgauṇalakṣaṇādibhir

vṛttibhiḥ ukthajaḍānukthāni yajñe śasyante tatra jaḍāḥ karmaśraddhā

bharākrāntamandamataya ityarthaḥ tān bhramayati . ayaṃ bhāvaḥ na hi

vedaḥ karmaphala:a nityamabhipraiti . kintu lakṣaṇayā prāśastyamātram .

anyeṣāṃ vākyānāṃ vidhyekavakyatvena vidhāveva tātparyāt . anyathā

vākyabhedaprasaṅgaḥ tadyatheha karmajito lokaḥ kṣīyate evamevāmutra

puṇyajito lokaḥ kṣīyata [Chāū 8.1.6] iti nyāyopārta hi śrutyantaravirodhaś

ca . ataḥ karmajaḍānāmidaṃ bhramamātraṃ jagattu satyamapi pariṇāma

dharmatvena naśvarameveti . taduktaṃ bhaṭṭenaiva athavetihāsapurāṇa

prāmāṇyātsṛṣṭipralayāvapīṣyete iti .

athavā nābhedaṃ sādhayāma ityādikamāśaṅkya prasiddhasya sattātrayasya

mitho vailakṣaṇyātpariharati . kva ca ghaṭādau arthakriyākāriṇyapi

vyabhicarati satteti śeṣaḥ . vastvantarasyārthakriyākāritāyāmasāmrthyāt

deśāntare svayamaidyamānatvātkālāntare tirobhāvitvācca . kva ca śukti

rajatādau tatrāpi tadānīmapi mṛṣā arthakriyākāritvābhāvāt . yā tūbhaya

yukubhayatra ghaṭādisattāyāṃ śuktirajatādisattāyāṃ ca yugyogo yasyāḥ .

yayā sā sattā labdhapadā bhavatītyarthaḥ . sā paramakāraṇasattā na tathā

kintu sarvatrāpi sarvadāpi tattadupādhyanurūpasarvārthakriyādy

adhiṣṭhānarūpetyarthaḥ . tasmādarthakriyākāritvena satyamapi

pariṇatatvena ghaṭavannaśvarameva jagatna pratītamātrasattākaṃ na

cānaśvarasattākamiti parasparavailakṣaṇyadarśanātkathamekamanyad

bhavitumarhatīti bhāvaḥ .

kūṭatāmrikatvamāśaṅkyāhuḥ vyavahṛtaya iti . vikalpyate anyatrāropyate

iti vikalpaḥ svataḥsiddhastāmrikādirarthaḥ sa eva vyavahṛtaye iṣitaḥ . ayam

arthaḥ . atra kūṭatāmrikeṇa yaṃ vyavahāraṃ manyase so'pi na tena sidhyati .

kiṃ tarhi satyatāmrikeṇaiva . arthāntaraṃ vyavaharturhṛdi tasyaiva

pratyakṣatvāt . kūṭatāmrikamatropalakṣaṇameva kvacittaṃ vināpi tava

gṛhe tāmriko datta iti paścāddātavya iti vā chalaprayoge smaryamāṇenāpi

tena tathā vyavahārasiddheḥ . tasmādvyavahārarūpāpyarthakriyākāritā

tasyaiva bhavatīti sa satya eva . anyathā satyasya tāmrikasyābhāve śatamapy

andhānāṃ na paśyatīti nyāyena kūṭatāmrikaparamparayāpi vyavahāro'pi

na sidhyedityāhuḥ . andhaparamparayeti . andhaparamparā doṣātsa eva

vyavahṛtaya iṣita ityanvayaḥ . yathāndhaparamparayā vyavahāro na sidhyet

tathā kūṭatāmrikaparamparayāpītyarthaḥ . itthameva vijñānavādo'pi

nirākṛtaḥ . śaṅkaraśārīrike'pi anāditve'pyandhaparamparā

nyāyenāpratiṣṭhaivānavasthā vyavahāravilopinī syāt . nābhiprāyasiddhir

ityuktam .

etaduktaṃ bhavati yathedaṃ suvarṇaṃ kena krītamiti praśne kaścidāha

anenāndheneti . anena kathaṃ paricitamiti punarāha tenāndhena

paricāyitam . tena ca kathmityāha kenāpyapareṇāndhenety

andhaparamparayāpi na sidhedvyavahāraḥ . kintu tatrāndhaparamparāyāyṃ

yadyeko'pi cakṣṣmān sarvādipravartako bhavati tadaiva sidhyati . yathā ca

tatra sarveṣvapi cakṣuṣmata eva vyavahārasādhakatvam . tathā kasmiṃścit

tāmrike prathamaṃ satye satyeva vyavahāraḥ sidhyati . tatra ca satyasaiva

vyavahārasādhakatvam . tadanusandhānenaiva tatra pravṛtteścakṣuṣmata iva

pravartakatvāttataśca na tāmrika satya iti sthite, yatra tadvyavahārakuśalaḥ

parīkṣayā satyatāvagamyate sa eva kūṭatāmrike'pyāropyamāṇaḥ satyo

bhavet . tadevamarthakriyākāritvena tasya satyatve tadupalakṣitaṃ viśvam
