Purport With the desire of making Krishna's beautiful earlobes long and adorn them with earrings, Yasoda calls Krishna. As He refuses every time, she affectionately chides Him sometimes and praises Him on other occasions by invoking His past valorous deeds, to somehow make Him heed her calls. This interesting dialogue is captured by Villipuththur fame periAzhwAr in the twelve verses above, highlighting respectively the twelve glorious names of emberumAn and presented in andhAdhi poetic meter. Those who recite these pAsurams shall surely be entitled to serve Achutan always.

Summary PeriAzhwAr beautifully depicts a scene wherein Yasoda summons a raven to come and comb the hair of Krishna, who perhaps, for obvious reasons, remains elusive to her own efforts of tidying His hair. A very down to earth situation that transports us at once to the times of Krishna and makes us relive the enchanting moments!

Purport Krishna manages to steal handful of butter stored in a secured container in the loft, eats it and then dashes to His bed innocently, pretending to be asleep. Are you not aware that once Krishna, while grazing the calves, caught hold of the feet of a calf and threw it up on a wood-apple tree, achieving at once the destruction of the demons residing in these. Purport Krishna's hair has become matted due to applying oil and subsequent bath with soap nut. O Raven, you need to come with an ivory comb and comb the matted hair of DamOdharan, who created the four faced Brahma seated on a lotus!

Purport Once during vAmanAvathAram, Krishna sought three feet of mud from the asurA king mahAbali and later assuming trivikrama avathAr, He, who is worshiped with thousand names, measured the whole world with His foot. Seeing His wonderful form, the wives of mahAbali were thrilled beyond words. O Raven, now place His golden hair on a flowery bed and comb from behind!

Purport PeriAzhwAr, the administrator of Srivilliputtur, a city with walls looking to touch the sky, composed these hymns wherein a raven is called upon by YasOda to comb and tidy Krishna's unruly hair-resembling dark clouds-to avoid ridicule by others. Those who recite these pAsurams with joy will get past all karmAs.

Summary Krishna, being a cowherd Himself , is expected to possess a good staff for grazing the calves and cows. Yasoda again summons a raven nearby to fetch a staff for Krishna. PeriAzhwAr while dramatizing the whole episode, doesn't miss the opportunity to heap praises on the Lord for His valorous deeds in His krishnA and rAmAvatArs

Purport O raven, go and fetch a staff for KrishnA with swinging hair locks, who is the chief of Gods, who vanquished the evil kamsA, waited a while before tearing apart the mouth of evil crane bakAsurA and who runs ahead of calves to keep them in check.

Purport The evil minded DuryodanA, wearing a gem crown, was vehemently adamant and refused to part with even a grain of sand to pAndavAs despite the good offices of the messenger Krishna. The latter then had no other choice but to declare mahAbhArathA war. O raven! go and get a grazing stick for the ocean hued Krishna!

Purport O raven, fetch a staff for the radiant crowned Krishna, who, in rAmAvatAr, for the sake of rescuing slender-waisted sitA captured by rAvaNA, built a bridge across sea, crossed over to Lanka, felled the gem bedecked ten- heads of rAvaNa, with arrows shot from His bent bow!

Beloved of Mahalakshmi-the dispenser of all wealth! During dissolution time, You gulp the seven worlds and rest upon a banyan leaf! Come, let me rejoice seeing You wear the karumugai flowers.

Purport These songs composed by Srivilliputhoor king periAzhwAr, recounts the incidents wherein happy Yasoda calls Krishna to wear flowers and garlands made of Champaka, Jasmine, Senkazhuneer, iruvAtchi and lots of other fragrant flowers. The decad of songs is akin to a garland acceptable to the Lord.

Summary Krishna, beautiful as ever, is all attractive. As a child, He is the darling of the people around Him. Yasoda, though a foster mother, is greatly concerned with protecting Krishna from evil eyes. She resorts to traditional practices that would ward off evil eyes cast on Him, so that He is protected from harmful reactions to His health. AzhwAr recalls these conversations in his pAsurams for us to enjoy!
