Taking the body of a lion, the king among animals,

You tore open the body of asura Hiranya kasipu with

your sharp nails, splattering blood all over. O Lord,

You took this avatar to protect his son Prahalladha

and make his words* come true. Long time ago,

when demigod Indra got angry with inamates of Gokulam

because they offered pooja to the Govardhana Hill

instead of him, he sent in huge dark clouds and

poured heavy rains with hailstones for seven days,

displacing people and cattle and giving them great

suffering. O Lord, the bull among yaadhavaas, You

came to the rescue of the people there by lifting up

Govardhana Hill with your hand as an Umbrella and

saved people and cows from rains and destruction.

O Krishna, for my sake, dance sengeerai once

(notes: * on being asked by Hiranya kasipu

"where is your God? show me", Prahalladha points

his finger to a nearby pillar and says He exists

even in this. At that moment, the asura bangs

the pillar with his mace (gadai in tamil) and

breaks it into two . The ferocious Lord

taking Lion-Man avatar, emerged from the

pillar and killed the asura. Thus the Lord made

his devotee Prahalladha's words come true)
