Kṛṣṇa Miśra was a son of Advaita Ācārya. Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu always sat in his heart.

TEXT 28

Advaita Ā cā rya’s very confidential servant named Kamalā kā nta Viś vā sa knew all the dealings of Advaita Ā cā rya.

 

Purp.: The name Kamalā nanda mentioned in the Ā di-lī lā (10. 149) and the name Kamalā kā nta mentioned in the Madhya-lī lā (10. 94) both refer to the same man.

 

  Anubh.: adi, 10m p. 149 sonkhyae likhito ‘kamalananda’ o madhya 10m p. 94 sonkhyae likhito ‘kamalakanta’ sombhobotoh eki byakti = …are both probably one person.

 

TEXT 40

mukti——ś reṣ ṭ ha kari’ kainu vā ś iṣ ṭ ha vyā khyā na

kruddha hañ ā prabhu more kaila apamā na

 

“Thus I expounded the Yoga-vā ś iṣ ṭ ha, which considers liberation the ultimate goal of life. For this the Lord became angry at Me and treated Me with apparent disrespect.

Purp.: There is a book of the name Yoga-vā ś iṣ ṭ ha that Mā yā vā dī s greatly favor because it is full of impersonal misunderstandings regarding the Supreme Personality of Godhead, with no touch of Vaiṣ ṇ avism. Factually, all Vaiṣ ṇ avas should avoid such a book, but Advaita Ā cā rya Prabhu, wanting punishment from the Lord, began to support the impersonal statements of the Yoga-vā ś iṣ ṭ ha. Thus Lord Caitanya Mahā prabhu became extremely angry at Him and seemingly treated Him disrespectfully.

A. -pr. -bh.: yoga-vasistha byakhyan korite korite kono chole odvoito probhu bhokti opeksa muktike srestho boliyachilen. = In a fictitious way, Advaita Prabhu claimed, while explaining Yoga-vā ś iṣ ṭ ha, that mukti is better than bhakti.

 

Anubh.: Vasistha – Yoga-vasistha Ramayana – uha visnu-bhakti-virodhi mayavad protipadok boliya suddho-bhokter opathyo. = as it supports mayavada, opposing devotion to Visnu, it is unfit to be read by pure devotees.

TEXT 47

Advaita Ā cā rya then said to Caitanya Mahā prabhu, “Why have You called back this man and allowed him to see You? He has cheated Me in two ways. ”

 

Anubh.: se amake oprakrto narayon-o bole abar karyotoh amake prakrto ortho-bhiksu doridro-o jnan kore. = On one hand he says that I am transcendental Narayana, but on the other hand he actually considers Me a mundane poor beggar.

 

 

TEXT 56

The fifth branch of Advaita Ā cā rya was Ś rī Yadunandana Ā cā rya, who had so many branches and subbranches that it is impossible to write of them.

 

Purp.: Yadunandana Ā cā rya was the official initiator spiritual master of Raghunā tha dā sa Gosvā mī. In other words, when Raghunā tha dā sa Gosvā mī was a householder, Yadunandana Ā cā rya initiated him at home. Later Raghunā tha dā sa Gosvā mī took shelter of Ś rī Caitanya Mahā prabhu at Jagannā tha Purī.

 

Anubh.: yadunandanacarya – sri raghunath das gosvami probhur pancaratriki-diksa-guru. … See (Cc) Antya 6. 160-169.

 

TEXT 57

Ś rī Yadunandana Ā cā rya was a student of Vā sudeva Datta, and he received all his mercy. Therefore he could accept Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet, from all angles of vision, as the supreme shelter.

TEXT 58

Bhā gavata Ā cā rya, Viṣ ṇ udā sa Ā cā rya, Cakrapā ṇ i Ā cā rya and Ananta Ā cā rya were the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth branches of Advaita Ā cā rya.

TEXT 59

Nandinī, Kā madeva, Caitanya dā sa, Durlabha Viś vā sa and Vanamā lī dā sa were the tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth branches of Ś rī Advaita Ā cā rya.

 

Anubh.: Gaura-gaṇ oddeś a-dī pikā (89):

nandini jangali jneya jaya ca vijaya kramat [“The devotees Nandini and Jangali who were associates of Lord Caitanya had previously been Jaya and Vijaya in Lord Krsna's pastimes. ”]

 

sitar gorbho-jato odvoito-konya = Nandini was a daughter of Advaita Prabhu, born from the womb of Sita. (with a question mark)

 

 

TEXT 81

The fifth branch was Ananta Ā cā rya; the sixth, Kavi Datta; the seventh, Nayana Miś ra; the eighth, Gaṅ gā mantrī; the ninth, Mā mu Ṭ hā kura; and the tenth, Kaṇ ṭ hā bharaṇ a.

Purp.: …Mā mu Ṭ hā kura, whose real name was Jagannā tha Cakravartī, was the nephew of Ś rī Nī lā mbara Cakravartī, Ś rī Caitanya Mahā prabhu’s grandfather. In Bengal a maternal uncle is called mā mā, and in East Bengal and Orissa, mā mu. Thus Jagannā tha Cakravartī was known as Mā mā or Mā mu Ṭ hā kura…

 

Anubh.: mamu thakur – sri mohaprobhu ihake ‘mama’ boliya dakiten; tajjonyo loke ihake ‘mama-thakur’ boliten. = Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu used to adress him Mama, therefore people called him Mama Thakura…

 

 Purp.: …After the demise of Ś rī Gadā dhara Paṇ ḍ ita, Mā mu Ṭ hā kura became the priest in charge of the temple known as Ṭ oṭ ā -gopī nā tha, in Jagannā tha Purī. ... The followers (? ) of Mā mu Ṭ hā kura were Raghunā tha Gosvā mī, Rā macandra, Rā dhā vallabha, Kṛ ṣ ṇ ajī vana, Ś yā masundara, Ś ā ntā maṇ i, Harinā tha, Navī nacandra, Matilā la, Dayā mayī and Kuñ javihā rī.

 

Anubh.: …tota gopinather sevok-goner guru-pronali – (1) sri gadadhar pondit gosvami (srimati radhika, motantore saubhagya-manjari), (2) tod-onugo sri jagannath cakravarti ‘mamu’ gosvami, (sri-rupa-manjari? ), (3) tod-onugo raghunath gosvami, (4) ramacandra… = The succession of the priests serving Tota Gopinatha Deity was as follows: (1) Sri Gadadhara Pandita Gosvami (Srimati Radhika, or, in others’ opinion, Saubhagya-manjari) (! ), (2) his successor Mamu Gosvami (Sri Rupa-manjari – with a question mark), (3) his successor …

 

 

TEXT 84

The fifteenth branch was Ś rī nā tha Cakravartī; the sixteenth, Uddhava; the seventeenth, Jitā mitra; and the eighteenth, Jagannā tha dā sa.

 

Purp.:. .. Jitā mitra wrote a book entitled Kṛ ṣ ṇ a-mā yurya. … (? )

 

Anubh.: Ś ā khā -nirṇ ayā mṛ ta (36):

 

yasya sri-pustakam krsna-ma dh urya(! )-prema-posakam

jitamitram aham vande sarva bhista-pradayakam

 

 Purp.: …Jagannā tha dā sa... As one of the sixty-four sakhī s, he was formerly an assistant of Citrā devī -gopī named Tilakinī.

 

Anubh.: jagannath das – ini sri-rupa-pada-krto ‘krsna-ganoddesa’-likhito somo-somaj-stho cotuh-sosthi sakhi-goner 26 sonkhyok sakhi ‘tilakini’ – citra devir uposakhi. = In Krsna-ganoddesa, written by Srila Rupa Gosvami, he is described as the 26th among the 64 sakhis, named Tilakini – an assistant of Citradevi. Sloka 142:

rasalika tilakini sauraseni sugandhika

…He is mentioned in Suryadasa Sarkhela’s Bhoga-nirnaya-poddhoti:

tatah sucitra yuthas ca ye mahanto bhavanti tan

jagannathakhya dasas ca thakkuro jagad-isakah

 

TEXT 85

The nineteenth branch was Ś rī Hari Ā cā rya; the twentieth, Sā dipuriyā Gopā la; the twenty-first, Kṛ ṣ ṇ adā sa Brahmacā rī; and the twenty-second, Puṣ pagopā la.

Anubh.: Ś ā khā -nirṇ ayā mṛ ta (38):

 

vande gopala-dasakhyam sadipura-nivasinam

radha-krsna-prema-rasaih plavitam vikramam puram

 This indicates that Sadipuriya Gopala means Gopala, the resident of Sadipura. (! )

 

 

TEXT 87

The twenty-eighth branch was Amogha Paṇ ḍ ita; the twenty-ninth, Hastigopā la; the thirtieth, Caitanya-vallabha; the thirty-first, Yadu Gā ṅ guli; and the thirty-second, Maṅ gala Vaiṣ ṇ ava.

 

Anubh.: Hastigopala was Harini in Vraja (G. -g-d. 196 & 206). In the village Paligrama-canaka, in the district of Burdwan, still resides a scion of the family of Yadu Ganguli’s branch, Sri Nalinaksa Thakura.

 

Purp.: Ś rī Maṅ gala Vaiṣ ṇ ava was a resident of the village Ṭ iṭ akaṇ ā in the district of Murshidabad. His forefathers were ś ā ktas who worshiped the goddess Kirī ṭ eś varī. It is said that Maṅ gala Vaiṣ ṇ ava, formerly a staunch brahmacā rī, left home and later married the daughter of his disciple Prā ṇ anā tha Adhikā rī in the village of Mayanā ḍ ā la… (? )

 

Anubh.: …His forefathers were worshippers of Kiritesvari, the goddess of Mursidabad. It is said that formerly he took strict vows and left home; then later on he married…

 

Purp: … Sudhā kṛ ṣ ṇ a Mitra and Nikuñ javihā rī Mitra are both especially famous mṛ daṅ ga players.

 

Anubh.: …ihara mrdanga-vidyar acarya. = They are acaryas of the art of playing mrdanga.

Throughout this whole chapter, Ś rī la Bhaktisiddhā nta Sarasvatī Ṭ hā kura quotes many sanskrit verses from the Ś ā khā -nirṇ ayā mṛ ta, glorifying the particular devotees described.
