TEXT 11

The seed of devotional service next fructified in the form of Ś rī Ī ś vara Purī, and then the gardener Himself, Caitanya Mahā prabhu, became the main trunk of the tree of devotional service.

Purp.: …To teach others by example how to be a faithful disciple of one’s spiritual master, Ś rī Caitanya Mahā prabhu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, visited the birthplace of Ī ś vara Purī at Kumā ra-haṭ ṭ a and collected some earth from his birth site. This He kept very carefully, and He used to eat a small portion of it daily…

Anubh.:

[“The Lord took some dust from the birthplace of Ī ś vara Purī and tied it in His cloth. ”]

TEXTS 13–15

Paramā nanda Purī, Keś ava Bhā ratī, Brahmā nanda Purī and Brahmā nanda Bhā ratī, Ś rī Viṣ ṇ u Purī, Keś ava Purī, Kṛ ṣ ṇ ā nanda Purī, Ś rī Nṛ siṁ ha Tī rtha and Sukhā nanda Purī —these nine sannyā sī roots all sprouted from the trunk of the tree. Thus the tree stood steadfastly on the strength of these nine roots.

A. -pr. -bh.: All sannyasis bearing the title Puri are connected with Sri Isvara Puri, and the sannyasis bearing the title Bharati are connected with Kesava Bharati, the sannyasa-guru of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Anubh.: Keś ava Purī, Kṛ ṣ ṇ ā nanda Purī, Ś rī Nṛ siṁ ha Tī rtha and Sukhā nanda Purī —

“The eight mystic powers, beginning with anima-siddhi, which had formerly appeared in Vrndavana, took birth in Bengal during Lord Caitanya's pastimes as the eight devotees Ananta, Sukhananda, Govinda, Raghunatha, Krsnananda, Kesava, Damodara, and Raghava. All these devotees bore the title Puri after their names.

“The nine Jayanteyas, who were fixed in celibacy and equal vision, and who spoke the Sri Bhagavata-samhita to Janaka Rsi, appeared on this earth as nine sannyasis, and continually performed pastimes with Lord Caitanya. Their names were: Sri Nrsimhananda Tirtha, Sri Satyananda Bharati, Sri Nrsimha Tirtha, Sri Cidananda Tirtha, Sri Jagannatha Tirtha[, Sri Vasudeva Tirtha, Sri Rama Tirtha, Sri Purusottama Tirtha, and Sri Garuda Avadhuta, who was also known as Sri Gopendra Asrama]. ”

Purp.: …Paramā nanda Purī established a small monastery behind the western side of the Jagannā tha temple, where he had a well dug to supply water. The water, however, was bitter, and therefore Ś rī Caitanya Mahā prabhu prayed to Lord Jagannā tha to allow Ganges water to come into the well to make it sweet. When Lord Jagannā tha granted the request, Lord Caitanya told all the devotees that from that day hence, the water of Paramā nanda Purī ’s well should be celebrated as Ganges water, for any devotee who would drink it or bathe in it would certainly get the same benefit as that derived from drinking or bathing in the waters of the Ganges. Such a person would certainly develop pure love of Godhead...

TEXT 40

“If the fruits are distributed all over the world, My reputation as a pious man will be known everywhere, and thus all people will glorify My name with great pleasure.

Anubh.: Just as in the material world people acheieve happiness by acting piously, and due to increased sinful behavior their misery increases, so the pure character of the pious is glorified, while the mean character of the sinners people do not want to talk about, in the same way, when people of the world become happy after receiving love for Krsna, then the provider of that love will be praised extensively. (! )

TEXT 41

“One who has taken his birth as a human being in the land of India [Bhā rata-varṣ a] should make his life successful and work for the benefit of all other people.

Anubh.: Having taken a human birth in the holy land of Bharata-varsa, if one works for the eternal good of the inhabitants of the material world, then it means that he effectively takes advantage of the best kind of bodies among all the species of life, in the most sacred land of all. (! )
