11. Yet he did not brave the climb up the ladder.

12. And what will explain to you what the climbup the ladder is?

13. The freeing of a slave,

14. Or the feeding on a day of hunger.

12.

15. of an orphan near of kin,

16. or a destitute in the dust.

13.

17. Then he becomes of those who believe,

and that advise one another to patience, and advise one another to kindness.

 

14.

18. These are the people of happiness.

15.

19. Yet as for those who defy Our revelations—these are the people of misery.

20. upon them is a padlocked Fire.

 

the Sun                                                                                                                  CHAPTER ONE

 THE SUN 91: 1 - 91: 15

1.

1. By the sun and its radiance,

2. and the moon as it follows it,

2.

3. And the day as it reveals it,

4. and the night as it conceals it.

3.

5. And the sky and He who built it,

6. and the earth and He who spread it,

4.

7. And the soul and He who proportioned it,

8. and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness,

5.

9. Successful is he who purifies it. (the soul, etc)

6.

10. Failing is he who corrupts it.

 

7.

11. The people of Thamood denied God in its pride,

12. when it followed its most wicked citizens.

8.

13. The messenger of God said to them,

“This is the she-camel of God, so let her drink. ”

9.

14. Yet they called him a liar, and hamstrung her. (with burdens, etc)

10.

So their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled it,

15. and He does not fear its sequel.

 THE NIGHT 92: 1 - 92: 21

1.

1. By the night as it covers,

2. and the day as it reveals,

3. and He who created the male and the female,

2.

4. Your endeavors are indeed diverse.

 

3.

5. As for him who gives and is righteous,

6. and confirms goodness,

7. We will ease his way towards ease.

4.

8. Yet as for him who is stingy and complacent,

9. and denies goodness,

10. We will ease his way towards difficulty.

5.

11. And his money will not save him when he falls.

 

6.

12. It is upon Us to guide,

13. and to Us belong the Last and the First.

 

7.

14. I have warned you of a fierce blaze.

8.

15. Nobody will burn in it except the very wicked,

16. He that is wicked and is warned, and yet denies it and turns away.

9.

17. Yet the devout will avoid it,

18. he who gives his money to become pure,

19. seeking no favor in return.

10.

20. Only seeking the acceptance of his Lord, the Most High,

21. and he will be satisfied.

 

 

the Light of the Morning                                                                                     CHAPTER ONE

 THE LIGHT OF THE MORNING 93: 1 - 93: 11

1.

1. By the morning light,

2. and the night as it settles,

3. your Lord did not abandon you, nor did He forget.

2.

4. The Hereafter is better for you than the First days of humanity.

3.

5. And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

 

4.

6. Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you?

7. And found you wandering, and guided you?

8. And found you in need, and enriched you?

5.

9. Therefore, do not mistreat the orphan

10. nor rebuff the seeker,

11. yet proclaim the blessings of your Lord, God.

 THE COMFORT 94: 1 - 94: 8

1.

1. Did We not soothe your heart?

2. and lift from you your burden,

3. that weighed down your back?

2.

4. And raised for you your reputation?

3.

5. With hardship comes ease.

6. With hardship comes ease.

4.

7. When your work is done, turn to devotion.

5.

8. And to your Lord turn for everything.

1. By the fig and the olive.

2. And Mount Sinai.

3. And this safe land.

2.

4. We created man in the best design.

5. Then reduced him to the lowest of the low.

6. Except those who believe and do righteous deeds;

for them is a reward without end.

4.

7. So why do you still reject the religion?

5.

8. Is God not the Wisest of the wise?

1. Read:

In the Name of your Lord who created,

2. Created man from a clot.

 

3.

3. Read:

And your Lord is the Most Generous,

4. He who taught by the pen,

5. He who taught man what he never knew.

 

5.

6. In fact, man oversteps all bounds,

7. when he considers his actions to be exempt,

6.

8. yet to your Lord God is the return of all spirits.

 

7.

9. Have you seen him who prevents (hinders, or blocks)

10. a servant of God when he or her prays?

8.

11. Do you think he is upon guidance,

12. or advocates righteousness in doing so?

 

9.

13. Do you see how he disbelieved and turned away?

10.

14. Does he not know that God sees?

11.

15. No, he does not.

 

12.

If he does not desist from halting the prayerful believers,

We will drag him by the forelock,

16. a deceitful, sinful forelock.

 

13.

17. Let him call on his gang.

14.

18. We will call the Guards.

 

15.

19. No, do not obey him;

yet kneel down, and come near.

 THE NIGHT OF DECREE 97: 1 - 97: 5

1.

1. We sent it down on the Night of Decree.

2.

2. Yet what will convey to you what the Night of Decree is?

 

3.

3. The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

4.

4. In it descend the angels and the Spirit,

by the leave of their Lord, with every command.

5.

5. Peace it is;

until the rise of dawn.

 THE CLEAR EVIDENCE 98: 1 - 98: 8

1.

1. Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, and the Polytheists,

were not apart, until the Clear Evidence came to them,

2.

2. from a messenger from God reciting purified scripts.

3.

3. In them are valuable writings.

4.

4. Those who were given the Scripture did not splinter,

except after the Clear Evidence came to them.

5.

5. They were commanded only to worship God,

devoting their faith to Him alone,

6.

and to practice regular prayer, and to give alms.

7.

That is the upright religion.

 

8.

6. Those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture, and the Polytheists,

will be in the Fire of Hell,

where they will abide forever.

9.

These are the worst of creatures.

 

10.

7. As for those who believe and lead a righteous life

11.

—these are the best of creatures.

12.

8. Their reward is with their Lord:

13.

Gardens of Eternity that rivers flow beneath, where they will abide forever.

 

14.

God is pleased with them,

and they are pleased with Him.

15.

That is for whoever fears His Lord.

 THE EARTHQUAKE 99: 1 - 99: 8

1.

1. When the earth is shaken with its quake,

2. and the earth brings out its loads,

2.

3. and man says, “What is the matter with it? ”

3.

4. On that Day, it will tell its tales,

5. for your Lord will have inspired it.

 

4.

6. On that Day, the people will emerge in droves, to be shown their works.

5.

7. Whomsoever has done an atom's weight of good will see it,

8. and whomsoever has done an atom's weight of evil will see it.

 

the War Charger                                                                                                   CHAPTER ONE

 THE WAR CHARGER 100: 1 - 100: 11

1.

1. By the racers that are panting,

2. igniting fires,

3. and raiding at dawn,

2.

4. raising clouds of dust,

5. and storming into the midst.

3.

6. Indeed, the human being is ungrateful to his Lord, God,

7. and he bears witness to that.

4.

8. And he is fierce in his love of wealth.

5.

9. Does he not know?

that when the contents of the graves are scattered around,

10. and the contents of the hearts are obtained,

11. their Lord, on that Day, is fully informed of them.

1. The Shocker.

2.

2. What is the Shocker?

3.

3. What will explain to you what the Shocker is?

4.

4. The Day when the people will be like scattered moths.

5.

5. And the mountains will be like tufted wool.

 

6.

6. As for he whose scales are heavy, (generous in business, etc)

7.

7. he will be in a pleasant life.

8.

8. Yet as for he whose scales are light, (ungenerous in business, etc)

9. his home is the Abyss of Hell.

10. Do you know what it is?

10.

11. A raging fire.

 

(the Distraction of) Greed                                                                                    CHAPTER ONE

 GREED 102: 1 - 102: 8

1.

1. Abundance distracts you,

2. until you visit the graveyards.

2.

3. Indeed, you will know,  

4. certainly, you will know.

3.

5. If you knew with knowledge of certainty,

6. you would see the Inferno.

4.

7. Then you will see it with the eye of certainty.

5.

8. Then, on that Day, you will be questioned about the Bliss.

 

(the Real Waste of) Time                                                                                           CHAPTER ONE

 TIME 103: 1 - 103: 3

1.

1. By time We speak the truth,

2.

2. the human being is in loss,

3.

3. Except them who believe, and do good works,

4.

and who encourage truth,

5.

and that recommend patience.

 THE SLANDERER 104: 1 - 104: 9

1.

1. Woe to every slanderer and backbiter,

2. that gathers wealth and counts it over,

3. thinking that his wealth has made him immortal.

4. By no means.

3.

He will be thrown into the Crusher.

4.

5. And what will make you realize what the Crusher is?

5.

6. God's kindled fire,

7. that laps to the hearts,

 

8. it closes in on them,

9. in extended columns.

 THE ELEPHANT 105: 1 - 105: 5

1.

1. Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?

2.

2. Did He not make their plan go wrong?

3.

3. He sent against them swarms of birds,

4. throwing at them rocks of baked clay,

5. leaving them like chewed-up leaves.

 

(the Security of the People of) the Quraish                                                              CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1- 3

 THE QUARISH 106: 1 - 106: 4

1.

1. For the security of Quraish,

2. their security during winter and summer journeys.

2.

3. let them worship the Lord of this House,

3.

4. who has fed them against hunger,

and has secured them against fear.

1. Have you considered him who denies the religion?

2. It is he who mistreats the orphan.

3.

3. And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

4. So woe to those who pray uncharitably,  (and that are yet in disbelief)

5. those who are heedless of their prayers.

5.

6. Them that put on the appearance of religion,

7. and withhold the assistance.

 PLENTY 108: 1 - 108: 3

1.

1. We have given you plenty.

2.

2. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.

3.

3. He who hates you is the loser.

 THE DISBELIEVERS 109: 1 - 109: 6

1.

1. Say to them, “O disbelievers,

2. I do not worship what you worship,

3. nor do you worship what I worship.

2.

4. Nor do I serve what you serve,

5. nor do you serve what I serve.

3.

6. You have your way, and I have my way. ”

 

The Victory (Revival)                                                                                           CHAPTER ONE

 THE VICTORY 110: 1 - 110: 3

1.

1. When there comes God’s victory, and conquest,

2. and you see the people entering God’s religion in multitudes.

2.

3. Then celebrate the praise of your Lord,

and seek His forgiveness.

He is the Accepter of Repentance.

 

Abi Lahab                                                                                                                 CHAPTER ONE

 ABI LAHAB 111: 1 - 111: 5

1.

1. Condemned are the hands of Abee Lahab,

and he is condemned.

2.

2. His wealth did not save him,

nor did what he acquired through various means.

3.

3. He will burn in a Flaming Fire,

4.

4. and his wife—the bearer of firewood,

5. around her neck is a rope of thorns.

1. Say, “He is God,

the One. 2. God,

the Absolute. (totally sovereign)

2.

3. He begets not, nor was He begotten.

1. Say to them, “I take refuge with the Lord of Daybreak.

4. And from the evil of those who practice sorcery.

5.

5. And from the evil of an envious man when he envies. ”

1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,

2. the King of mankind.

3. the God of mankind,

2.

4. From the evil of the sneaky whisperer,

5. that whispers into the hearts of people.
