(the prophet) Mohammed                                                                                       CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 31-65

 MOHAMMED 47: 19 - 47: 38

31.

19. Know that there is no god but God, and ask forgiveness for your sin,

and for the believing men and believing women.

32.

God knows your movements, and your resting-place.

33.

20. Those who believe say, “If only a chapter is sent down. ”

34.

Yet when a decisive chapter is sent down, and fighting is mentioned in it,

then you see those in whose hearts is sickness looking at you

with the look of someone fainting at death.

35.

So woe to them!

36.

21. Command obedience and upright speech.

37.

Then, when the matter is settled,

being true to God would have been better for them.

38.

22. If you turn away,

you are likely to make mischief on earth, and sever your family ties.

39.

23. Those are they whom God has cursed.

40.

He made them deaf, and blinded their sight.

41.

24. Will they not ponder the Quran?

42.

Or are there locks upon their hearts?

43.

25. Those who reverted after the guidance became clear to them

—Satan has enticed them, and has given them latitude.

44.

26. That is because they said to those who hated what God has revealed,

“We will obey you in certain matters. ”

45.

Yet God knows their secret thoughts.

46.

27. How about when the angels take them at death,

beating their faces and their backs?

47.

28. That is because they pursued what displeases God, and they disliked His approval,

so He nullified their works.

48.

29. Do those in whose hearts is sickness think that God will not expose their malice?

49.

30. Had We willed, We could have shown them to you,

and you would have recognized them by their marks.

50.

Yet you will recognize them by their tone of speech.

51.

And God knows your actions.

52.

31. We will certainly test you, until We know those among you who strive,

and those who are steadfast, and We will test your reactions.

53.

32. Those who disbelieve, and hinder from the path of God,

and oppose the Messenger after guidance has become clear to them

54.

—they will not hurt God in the least, yet He will nullify their deeds.

55.

33. O you who believe!

Obey God, and obey the Messenger,

and do not let your deeds go to waste.

56.

34. Those who disbelieve, and hinder from God’s path,

and then die as disbelievers

—God will not forgive them.

57.

35. So do not waver and call for peace while you have the upper hand.

58.

God is with you, and He will not waste your efforts.

59.

36. The life of this world is nothing except play and pastime.

60.

Yet if you have faith and lead a righteous life,

He will grant you your rewards,

and He will not ask you for your possessions.

61.

37. Were He to ask you for it, and press you,

you would become tight-fisted,

and He would expose your unwillingness.

62.

38. Here you are being called to spend in the cause of God.

63.

Among you are those who withhold;

yet whoever withholds is withholding against his own soul.

64.

God is the Rich, while you are the needy.

65.

And if you turn away,

He will replace you with another people, and they will not be like you.

The Victory                                                                                                           CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

 THE VICTORY 48: 1 - 48: 15

1.

1. We have granted you a conspicuous victory.

2.

2. That God may forgive you your sin, past and to come,

and complete His favors upon you,

3.

and guide you in a straight path.

3. And help you with an unwavering support.

4.

4. It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers,

to add faith to their faith.

5.

To God belong the forces of the heavens and the earth.

God is Knowing and Wise.

6.

5. He will admit the believers, male and female, into Gardens that rivers flow under,

to abide therein forever, and He will forgive their sins.

7.

That, with God, is a great triumph.

8.

6. And He will punish the hypocrites, male and female,

and the idolaters, male and female, those who harbor evil thoughts about God.

9.

They are surrounded by evil;

and God is angry with them, and has cursed them,

and has prepared for them Hell—a miserable destination.

10.

7. To God belong the troops of the heavens and the earth.

God is Mighty and Wise.

11.

8. We sent you as a witness, and a bearer of good news, and a warner.

12.

9. That you may believe in God and His Messenger,

and support Him, and honor Him,

and praise Him morning and evening.

13.

10. Those who pledge allegiance to you are pledging allegiance to God.

14.

The hand of God is over their hands.

15.

Whoever breaks his pledge breaks it to his own loss.

16.

And whoever fulfills his covenant with God, He will grant him a great reward.

17.

11. The Desert-Arabs that remained behind will say to you,

“Our belongings and our families have preoccupied us, so ask forgiveness for us. ”

18.

They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts.

19.

Say to them, “Who can avail you anything against God,

if He desires loss for you, or desires gain for you? ”

20.

In fact, God is Informed of what you do.

21.

12. Yet you thought that the Messenger and the believers will never return to their families,

and this seemed fine to your hearts;

22.

and you harbored evil thoughts, and were uncivilized people.

23.

13. He who does not believe in God and His Messenger

—We have prepared for the disbelievers a blazing fire. [shameful punishment]

24.

14. To God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth.

25.

He forgives whomever He wills, and He punishes whomever He wills.

God is Forgiving and Merciful.

26.

15. Those who lagged behind will say when you depart to collect the gains,

“Let us follow you. ”

27.

They want to change the Word of God.

28.

Say to them, “You will not follow us;

God has said so before. ”

29.

Then they will say, “Yet you are jealous of us. ”

30.

In fact, they understand only a little.

The Victory                                                                                                          CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 31-60

 THE VICTORY 48: 16 - 48: 29

31.

16. Say to the Desert-Arabs who lagged behind,

“You will be called against a people of great might;

you will fight them, unless they submit.

32.

If you obey, God will give you a fine reward.

33.

Yet if you turn away, as you turned away before,

He will punish you with a [painful] [shameful] punishment. ”

34.

17. There is no blame on the blind, nor any blame on the lame,

nor any blame on the sick.

35.

Whoever obeys God and His Messenger

—He will admit him into gardens that rivers flow beneath;

yet whoever turns away—He will punish him with a painful punishment.

36.

18. God was pleased with the believers,

when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree.

37.

He knew what was in their hearts, and sent down serenity upon them,

and rewarded them with an imminent conquest.

38.

19. And abundant gains for them to capture.

God is Mighty and Wise.

39.

20. God has promised you abundant gains, that you will capture.

40.

He has expedited this for you,

and has restrained people’s hands from you;

that it may be a sign to the believers,

and that He may guide you on a straight path.

41.

21. And other things, that you were incapable of,

yet God has encompassed them.

God is Capable of everything.

42.

22. If those who disbelieve had fought you,

they would have turned back and fled,

then found neither protector nor helper.

43.

23. It is God’s pattern, ongoing since the past.

44.

You will never find any change in God’s pattern.

45.

24. It is He who withheld their hands from you, and your hands from them,

in the valley of Mecca, after giving you advantage over them.

God is Observer of what you do.

46.

25. It is they who disbelieved, and barred you from the Sacred Mosque,

and prevented the offering from reaching its destination.

47.

Were it not for faithful men and faithful women, whom you did not know,

you were about to hurt them, and become guilty of an unintentional crime.

48.

Thus God admits into His mercy whomever He wills.

49.

Had they dispersed,

We would have punished those that disbelieved among them with a [painful] [shameful] penalty.

50.

26. Those that disbelieved filled their hearts with rage—the rage of the days of ignorance.

Yet God sent His serenity down upon His Messenger, and upon the believers,

and imposed on them the words of righteousness

—that they were most worthy and deserving of.

God is aware of everything.

51.

27. God has fulfilled His Messenger’s vision in truth:

“You will enter the Sacred Mosque, God willing, in security,

heads shaven, or hair cut short,

not fearing.

52.

He knew what you did not know,

and has granted besides that an imminent victory. ”

53.

28. It is He who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth,

to make it prevail over all religions.

God suffices as Witness.

54.

29. Muhammad is the Messenger of God.

55.

Those with him are stern against the disbelievers,

yet compassionate amongst themselves.

56.

You see them kneeling, prostrating,

seeking blessings from God and approval.

57.

Their marks are on their faces from the effects of prostration.

58.

Such is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel:

like a plant that sprouts, becomes strong, grows thick,

and rests on its stem, impressing the farmers.

59.

Through them He enrages the disbelievers.

60.

God has promised those among them who believe and do good deeds

forgiveness and a great reward.

The Inner Apartments                                                                                          CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-40

 THE INNER APARTMENTS 49: 1 - 49: 18

1.

1. O you who believe!

Do not place your opinions above that of God and His Messenger,

and fear God.

God is Hearing and Knowing.

2.

2. O you who believe!

Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet,

and do not speak loudly to him, as you speak loudly to one another,

lest your works be in vain without you realizing.

3.

3. Those who lower their voices before God’s Messenger

—those are they whose hearts God has tested for piety.

4.

They will have forgiveness and a great reward.

5.

4. Those who call you from behind the chambers

—most of them do not understand.

6.

5. Had they remained patient until you came out to them,

it would have been better for them.

7.

Yet God is Forgiving and Merciful.

8.

6. O you who believe!

If a troublemaker brings you any news, investigate,

lest you harm people out of ignorance,

and you become regretful for what you have done.

9.

7. And know that among you is the Messenger of God.

10.

Had he obeyed you in many things, you would have suffered hardship.

11.

Yet God has given you the love of faith,

and adorned it in your hearts,

and made disbelief, mischief, and rebellion hateful to you.

12.

These are the rightly guided.

13.

8. A Grace and Favor from God.

God is Knowing and Wise.

14.

9. If two groups of believers fight each other,

reconcile between them.

15.

Yet if one group aggresses against the other,

fight the aggressing group until it complies with God’s command.

16.

Once it has complied,

reconcile between them with justice, and be equitable.

17.

God loves the equitable.

18.

10. The believers are brothers, so reconcile between your brothers,

and remain conscious of God, so that you may receive mercy.

19.

11. O you who believe!

No people shall ridicule other people, for they may be better than they.

20.

Nor shall any women ridicule other women,

for they may be better than they.

21.

Nor shall you slander one another,

nor shall you insult one another with names.

22.

Evil is the return to wickedness after having attained faith.

23.

Whoever does not repent—these are the wrongdoers.

24.

12. O you who believe!

Avoid most suspicion—some suspicion is sinful.

25.

And do not spy on one another,

nor [backbite] [malciously slander] one another.

26.

Would any of you like to [eat the flesh of] [hear slander] his dead brother?

27.

You would detest it.

28.

So remain mindful of God.

God is Most Relenting, Most Merciful.

29.

13. O people!

We created you from a male and a female,

and made you races and tribes, that you may know one another.

30.

The best among you in the sight of God is the most righteous.

God is All-Knowing, Well-Experienced.

31.

14. The Desert-Arabs say, “We have believed. ”

32.

Say to them, “You have not believed;

but say, ‘We have submitted, ’

for faith has not yet entered into your hearts.

33.

Yet if you obey God and His Messenger,

He will not diminish any of your deeds.

34.

God is Forgiving and Merciful. ”

35.

15. The believers are those who believe in God and His Messenger,

and then have not doubted,

and strive for God’s cause with their wealth and their persons.

36.

These are the sincere.

37.

16. Say to them, “Are you going to teach God about your religion,

when God knows everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is aware of all things? ”

38.

17. They regarded it a favor to you that they have submitted.

39.

Say to them, “Do not consider your submission a favor to me;

it is God who has done you a favor by guiding you to the faith, if you are sincere. ”

40.

18. God knows the secrets of the heavens and the earth,

and God is seeing of everything you do.

Qaf                                                                                                                        CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-25

 QAF 50: 1 - 50: 19

1.

1. Qaf. (Q)

In the name of the Glorious Quran.

2.

2. They marveled that a warner has come to them from among them.

3.

The disbelievers say, “This is something strange.

4.

3. When we have died and become dust we will return?

5.

This is a farfetched return. ”

6.

4. We know what the earth consumes of them,

and with Us is a comprehensive book.

7.

5. Yet they denied the truth when it has come to them,

so they are in a confused state.

8.

6. Have they not observed the sky above them,

how We constructed it, and decorated it, and it has no cracks?

9.

7. And the earth, how We spread it out,

and set on it mountains, and grew in it all kinds of delightful pairs?

10.

8. A lesson and a reminder for every penitent worshiper.

11.

9. And We brought down from the sky blessed water,

and produced with it gardens and grain to harvest.

12.

10. And the soaring palm trees, with clustered dates.

11. As sustenance for the servants.

13.

And We revive thereby a dead town.

14.

Likewise is the resurrection.

15.

12. Before them the people of Noah denied the truth,

and so did the dwellers of Russ, [_________]

and Thamood.

16.

13. And Aad, and Pharaoh,

and the brethren of Lot.

17.

14. And the Dwellers of the Woods,

and the people of Tubba.

18.

They all rejected the messengers, so My threat came true.

19.

15. Were We fatigued by the first creation?

20.

Yet they are in doubt of a new creation.

21.

16. We created the human being,

and We know what his soul whispers to him.

22.

We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.

23.

17. As the two receivers receive, seated to the right and to the left.

24.

18. Not a word does he utter, yet there is a watcher by him, ready.

25.

19. The daze of death has come in truth:

“This is what you tried to evade. ”

Qaf                                                                                                                       CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 26-55

 QAF 50: 20 - 50: 45

26.

20. And the Trumpet is blown:

“This is the Promised Day. ”

27.

21. And every soul will come forward, accompanied by a driver and a witness.

28.

22. It will be said, “You were in neglect of this,

so We lifted your screen from you, and your vision today is keen. ”

29.

23. And His escort will say,

“This is what I have ready with me. ”

30.

24. “Throw into Hell every stubborn disbeliever,

25. Preventer of good,

and aggressor,

31.

and every doubter.

26. Who fabricated another god with God;

toss him into the intense agony. ”

32.

27. His escort will say,

“Our Lord, I did not make him rebel, yet he was far astray. ”

33.

28. God will say,

“Do not feud in My presence—

I had warned you in advance.

34.

29. The decree from Me will not be changed,

and I am not unjust to the servants. ”

35.

30. On the Day when We will say to Hell, “Are you full? ”

And it will say, “Are there any more? ”

36.

31. And when Paradise will be brought closer to the pious, not far away.

37.

32. “This (day) is what you were promised—for every careful penitent.

38.

33. Who inwardly feared the Most Gracious,

and came with a repentant heart.

39.

34. Enter it in peace.

40.

This is the Day of Eternity. ”

41.

35. Therein they will have whatever they desire—and We have even more.

42.

36. How many generations before them, who were more powerful than they,

did We destroy?

43.

They explored the lands—was there any escape?

44.

37. In that is a reminder for whoever possesses a heart,

or cares to listen and witness.

45.

38. We created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days,

and no fatigue touched Us.

46.

39. So endure what they say,

and proclaim the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before sunset.

47.

40. And glorify Him during the night, and at the end of devotions.

48.

41. And listen for the Day when the caller calls from a nearby place.

49.

42. The Day when they will hear the Shout in all truth.

50.

That is the Day of Emergence.

51.

43. It is We who control life and death, and to Us is the destination.

52.

44. The Day of Emergence will be when the earth will crack for them at once.

53.

That is an easy gathering for Us.

54.

45. We are fully aware of what they say,

and you are not a dictator over them.

55.

So remind by the Quran whoever fears My warning.

Winds of the Dispersion                                                                                       CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-35

WINDS OF THE DISPERSION 51: 1 - 51: 37

1.

1. In the name of  the spreaders spreading.

2. And those carrying loads.

2.

3. And those moving gently.

4. And those distributing as commanded.

5. What you are promised is true.

3.

6. Judgment will take place.

7. By the sky that is woven.

4.

8. You differ in what you say.

9. Averted from it is he who is averted.

5.

10. Perish the imposters.

11. Those who are dazed in ignorance.

6.

12. They ask, “When is the Day of Judgment? ”

7.

13. The Day they are presented to the Fire.

8.

14. It will be said to them, “Taste your ordeal.

9.

This is what you used to challenge. ”

10.

15. Yet the pious are amidst gardens and springs.

16. Receiving what their Lord has given them.

11.

They were virtuous before that.

12.

17. They used to sleep a little at night.

18. And at dawn, they would pray for pardon.

13.

19. And in their wealth, there was a share for the beggar and the deprived.

14.

20. And on earth are signs for the convinced.

21. And within your hearts.

15.

Do you not see?

16.

22. And in the heaven is your livelihood, and what you are promised.

17.

23. By the Lord of the heaven and the earth,

it is as true as the fact that you speak.

18.

24. Has the story of Abraham’s honorable guests reached you?

19.

25. When they entered upon him, they said, “Peace. ”

20.

He said, “Peace, strangers. ”

21.

26. Then he slipped away to his family, and brought a fatted calf.

22.

27. He set it before them.

23.

He said, “Will you not eat? ”

24.

28. And he harbored fear of them.

25.

They said, “Do not fear, ”

and they announced to him the good news of a knowledgeable boy.

26.

29. His wife came forward crying.

27.

She clasped her face, and said, “A barren old woman? ”

28.

30. They said, “Thus spoke your Lord.

29.

He is the Wise, the Knowing. ”

30.

31. He said, “What is your business, O envoys? ”

31.

32. They said, “We are sent to a people guilty of sin.

33. To unleash upon them rocks of clay.

32.

34. A people that are marked by your Lord for the excessive. ”

33.

35. We evacuated all the believers who were in it.

34.

36. Yet found in it only one household of [Muslims] [righteous believers].

35.

37. And We left in it a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.

Winds of the Dispersion                                                                                      CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 36-60

WINDS OF THE DISPERSION 51: 38 - 51: 60

36.

38. And in Moses.

We sent him to Pharaoh with a clear authority.

37.

39. Yet he turned away with his warlords, and said,

“A sorcerer or a madman. ”

38.

40. So We seized him and his troops, and threw them into the sea,

and He was to blame.

39.

41. And in Aad, We unleashed against them the devastating wind.

40.

42. It spared nothing it came upon, yet rendered it like decayed ruins.

41.

43. And in Thamood, they were told, “Enjoy yourselves for a while. ”

42.

44. Yet they defied the command of their Lord,

so the lightning struck them as they looked on.

43.

45. They could not rise up, nor could they find help.

44.

46. And before that, the people of Noah.

They were immoral people.

45.

47. We constructed the universe with power, and We are expanding it.

46.

48. And the earth—We spread it out—How well We prepared it!

47.

49. We created all things in pairs, so that you may reflect and ponder.

48.

50. “So flee towards God.

49.

I am sent to you from Him to be a clear warner. ”

50.

51. “And do not set up any other god with God.

51.

I am sent to you from Him to be a clear warner. ”

52.

52. Likewise, no messenger came to those before them, except that they said,

He is a sorcerer or a madman. ”

53.

53. Did they recommend it to one another?

54.

In fact, they are rebellious people.

55.

54. So turn away from them;

you are not to blame.

55. And remind the faithful believers of the scriptures, for the reminder benefits the believers.

56.

56. I did not create the jinn and the humans except to worship Me.

57.

57. I need no livelihood from them,

nor do I need them to feed Me.

58.

58. God is the Provider,

the One with Power, the Strong.

59.

59. Those who do wrong will have their turn, like the turn of their counterparts,

so let them not rush Me.

60.

60. So woe to those who disbelieve because of that Day of theirs that they are promised.

The Mount [Sinai]                                                                                                CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

 THE MOUNT [SINAI] 52: 1 - 52: 29

1.

1. In the name of the Mount.

2.

2. and a Book inscribed.

3. in a published scroll.

3.

4. And the frequented House.

5. and the elevated roof.
