84.

75. It will never be eased for them.

85.

In it, they will be devastated.

86.

76. We did them no injustice, yet it was they who were the unjust.

87.

77. And they will cry, “O Malek, let your Lord finish us off. ”

88.

He will say, “You are staying. ”

89.

78. We have given you the truth, yet most of you hate the truth.

90.

79. Have they contrived some scheme?

91.

We too are contriving.

92.

80. Or do they think that We cannot hear their secrets and their conspiracies?

93.

Yes indeed, Our messengers are by them, writing down.

94.

81. Say to them, “If the Most Gracious had a son,

I would be the first to worship. ”

95.

82. Glorified be the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne,

beyond what they describe.

96.

83. So leave them to blunder and play,

until they encounter their Day which they are promised.

97.

84. It is He who is God in heaven, and God on earth.

He is the Wise, the Knower.

98.

85. And blessed is He Who has sovereignty over the heavens and the earth and what is between them.

99.

He alone has knowledge of the Hour, and to Him you will be returned.

100.

86. Those they invoke besides Him are incapable of intercession;

only those who testify to the truth and have knowledge.

101.

87. And if you asked them, “Who created them? ”,

they would say, “God. ”

102.

Why then do they deviate?

103.

88. As for his statement:

“My Lord, these are a people who do not believe. ”

104.

89. Pardon them, and say, “Peace. ”

105.

They will come to know.

The Smoke                                                                                                            CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

 THE SMOKE 44: 1 - 44: 33

1.

1. Ha, Meem. (H, M)

2. By the Enlightening Scripture.

2.

3. We have revealed it on a Blessed Night

—We have warned.

3.

4. In it is distinguished every wise command.

4.

5. A decree from Us.

5.

We have been sending messages.

6. As mercy from your Lord.

He is the Hearer, the Knower.

6.

7. Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them,

if you know for sure.

7.

8. There is no god except He.

8.

He gives life and causes death

—your Lord and Lord of your ancestors of old.

10.

9. Yet they play around in doubt.

11.

10. So watch out for the Day when the sky produces a visible smoke.                         a volcano?

11. Enveloping mankind;

this is a painful punishment.

12.

12. They shall say on tha day “Our Lord, lift the torment from us, we are believers. ”

13.

13. Yet how can they be reminded now?

14.

An enlightening messenger has already come to them.

14. Yet they turned away from him, and said,

He is educated, yet crazy! ”

15.

15. We will ease the punishment a little,

yet you will revert to your faithlessness.

16.

16. The day when We launch the great assault—We will avenge.

17.

17. Before them We tested the people of Pharaoh;

a noble messenger came to them.

18. saying, “Hand over God’s servants to me.

18.

I am an honest messenger to you. ”

19.

19. And, “Do not exalt yourselves above God.

20.

I come to you with clear authority.

21.

20. I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

21. Yet if you do not believe in me, stay away from me. ”

22.

22. He appealed to his Lord: “These are a sinful people. ”

23.

23. God said to him, “Set out with My servants by night—you will be followed.

24.

24. And cross the sea quickly;

they are an army to be drowned. ”

25.

25. How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind?

26. And plantations, and splendid buildings.

27. And comforts they used to enjoy.

26.

28. So it was;

and We passed it on to another people.

27.

29. Neither heaven nor earth wept over them,

nor were they reprieved.

28.

30. And We delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating persecution.

31. From Pharaoh.

He was a transgressing tyrant.

29.

32. And We chose them knowingly over all other people.

30.

33. And We gave them many signs,

wherein was an obvious test.

The Smoke                                                                                                           CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 31-55

 THE SMOKE 44: 34 - 44: 59

31.

34. These people say,

35. “There is nothing except our first death,

and we will not be resurrected.

35.

36. Bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful. ”

36.

37. Are they better, or the people of Tubba and those before them?

37.

We annihilated them.

They were evildoers.

38.

38. We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them to play.

39.

39. We created them only for a specific purpose,

yet most of them do not know.

40.

40. The Day of Sorting Out is the appointed time for them all.

41.

41. The day when no friend will avail a friend in any way,

and they will not be helped.

42.

42. Except for him upon whom God has mercy.

He is the Mighty, the Merciful.

43.

43. The Tree of Bitterness.

44. is the food of the disbelieving sinner.

44.

45. Like molten lead;

boiling inside the bellies.

46. Like the boiling of seething water.

45.

47. Seize him and drag him into the midst of Hell!

46.

48. Then pour over his head the suffering of the Inferno!

47.

49. Taste! You who were powerful and noble.

50. This is what you used to doubt.

48.

51. As for the righteous, they will be in a secure place.

52. Amidst gardens and springs.

53. Dressed in silk and brocade, facing one another.

49.

54. So it is,

and We will wed them to lovely companions.

50.

55. They will call therein for every kind of fruit,

in peace and security.

51.

56. Therein they will not know death, beyond the first death;

and He will protect them from the torment of Hell.

52.

57. A favor from your Lord.

That is the supreme salvation.

53.

58. We made it easy in your language,

so that they may remember.

54.

59. So wait and watch.

55.

They too are waiting and watching.

The Kneeling                                                                                                          CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

 THE KNEELING 45: 1 - 45: 19

1.

1. Ha, Meem.

2. The revelation of the Book is from God, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

2.

3. In the heavens and the earth are proofs for the believers.

3.

4. And in your own creation, and in the creatures He scattered,

are signs for people of firm faith.

4.

5. And in the alternation of night and day,

and in the sustenance God sends down from the sky,

with which He revives the earth after its death,

5.

and in the circulation of the winds,

are marvels for people who reason.

6.

6. These are God’s Verses which We recite to you in truth.

7.

In which message, after God's communications and His revelations, will they believe?

8.

7. Woe to every sinful liar.

9.

8. that hears God's revelations being recited to him,

yet he persists arrogantly, as though he did not hear them.

10.

Announce to him a [painful] [humiliating] punishment.

11.

9. And when he learns something of Our revelations,

he takes them in mockery.

12.

For disbelivers like these there is a shameful punishment.

13.

10. Beyond them lies Hell.

14.

What they have earned will not benefit them at all,

nor will those they adopted as lords instead of God.

15.

They will have a terrible punishment.

16.

11. This is guidance.

17.

Them that blaspheme their Lord’s revelations shall have a punishment of [agonizing pain]

[much shame].

18.

12. It is God who placed the sea at your service,

so that ships may run through it by His command,

and that you may seek of His bounty,

and that you may give thanks.

19.

13. And He placed at your service whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth

—all is from Him.

20.

In that are signs for a people who think.

21.

14. Tell those who believe

to forgive those who do not hope for the Days of God.

22.

He will fully recompense people for whatever they have earned.

23.

15. Whoever does a good deed, it is for his soul;

and whoever commits evil, it is against it;

then to your Lord you will be returned.

24.

16. We gave the Children of Israel the Book,

and wisdom, and prophecy;

25.

and We provided them with the good things;

and We gave them advantage over all other people.

26.

17. And We gave them precise rulings.

27.

They fell into dispute only after knowledge came to them,

out of mutual rivalry.

28.

Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection

regarding the things they differed about.

29.

18. Then We set you upon a pathway of faith, so follow it,

and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know.

30.

19. They will not help you against God in any way.

The Kneeling                                                                                                       CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 31-30

 THE KNEELING 45: 19 - 45: 37

31.

The wrongdoers are allies of one another,

while God is the Protector of the righteous.

32.

20. This is an illumination for mankind, and guidance,

and mercy for people who believe with certainty.

33.

21. Do those who perpetrate the evil deeds assume that We will regard them as equal

to those who believe and do righteous deeds,

whether in their life or their death?

34.

Evil is their judgment!

35.

22. God created the heavens and the earth with justice,

so that every soul will be repaid for what it has earned.

And they will not be wronged.

36.

23. Have you considered him who has taken his desire for his god?

God has knowingly led him astray,

and has sealed his hearing and his heart,

and has placed a veil over his vision.

37.

Who will guide him after God?

Will you not reflect?

38.

24. And they say, “There is nothing except this our present life;

we die and we live, and nothing destroys us except time. ”

39.

Yet they have no knowledge of that;

they are only guessing.

40.

25. When Our clarifying Verses are recited to them,

their only argument is to say,

“Bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful. ”

41.

26. Say, “God gives you life, then He makes you die;

then He gathers you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.

yet most people do not know except a few. ”

42.

27. To God belongs the kingship of the heavens and the earth.

43.

On the Day when the Hour takes place,

on that Day the falsifiers will lose.

44.

28. You will see every community on its knees;

every community will be called to its Book:

45.

“Today you are being repaid for what you used to do.

46.

29. This Book of Ours speaks about you in truth.

47.

We have been transcribing what you have been doing. ”

48.

30. As for those who believed and did righteous deeds,

their Lord will admit them into His mercy.

49.

That is the clear triumph.

50.

31. Yet as for those who disbelieved:

shall be said, “Were My revelations not recited to you?

51.

Yet you turned arrogant, and were guilty people. ”

52.

32. And when it was said, “The promise of God is true,

and of the Hour there is no doubt, ”

53.

you said, “We do not know what the Hour is;

we think it is only speculation;

we are not convinced. ”

54.

33. The evils of what they did will become evident to them,

and the very thing they ridiculed will haunt them.

55.

34. And it will be said, “Today We forget you,

as you forgot the encounter of this Day of yours.

56.

Your abode is the Fire, and there are no saviors for you.

57.

35. That is because you took God’s revelations for a joke,

and the worldly life lured you. ”

58.

So today they will not be brought out of it,

and they will not be allowed to repent.

59.

36. Praise belongs to God;

Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of humanity.

60.

37. To Him belongs all supremacy in the heavens and the earth.

He is the Majestic, the Wise.

The Sand Dunes                                                                                                   CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-20

 THE SAND DUNES 46: 1 - 46: 11

1.

1. Ha, Meem. (H, M)

2. The sending down of the Scripture is from God,

the Honorable, the Wise.

2.

3. We did not create the heavens and the earth and what lies between them

except with reason, and for a finite period.

yet the blasphemers continue to ignore the warnings they receive.

3.

4. Say to them, “Have you considered those you worship instead of God?

4.

Show me which portion of the earth they (your idolatrous gods) have created.

5.

Or do they (your idolatrous gods) own a share of the heavens?

6.

Bring me a scripture prior to this one, or some trace of knowledge,

if you are truthful. ”

7.

5. Who is more wrong than him who invokes, besides God,

those who will not answer him until the Day of Resurrection, and are heedless of their prayers?

8.

6. And when humanity is gathered, they will be enemies to them,

and will renounce their worship of them.

9.

7. When Our revelations are recited to them, plain and clear,

them thatieve say of the truth when it has come to them,

“This is obviously magic. ”

10.

8. Or do they say, “He invented it himself”?

Say to theminvented it myself, there is nothing you can do to protect me from God.

He knows well what you are engaged in.

13.

He is sufficient witness between me and you.

He is the Forgiver, the Merciful. ”

9. Say, “I am not different from the other messengers;

and I do not know what will be done with me, or with you.

15.

I only follow what is inspired in me,

and I am only a clear warner. ”

16.

10. Say to them, “Have you considered?

What if it really is from God, and you disbelieve in it?

17.

A witness from the Children of Israel testified to its like, and has believed,

while you turned arrogant.

18.

God does not guide the unjust people. ”

19.

11. Those who disbelieve say to those who believe,

“If it were anything good, they would not have preceded us to it. ”

20.

And since they were not guided by it, they will say,

“This is an ancient lie. ”

The Sand Dunes                                                                                                  CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 21-50

 THE SAND DUNES 46: 12 - 46: 23

21.

12. And before these warnings was the Book of Moses, a model and a mercy.

22.

And this is a confirming Book, in the Arabic language, to warn those who do wrong

—and good news for the doers of good.

22.

13. Those who say, “Our Lord is God, ” then lead a righteous life

—they have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve.

23.

14. These are the inhabitants of Paradise, where they will dwell forever

—a reward for what they used to do.

24.

15. We have enjoined upon man kindness to his parents.

25.

His mother carried him with difficulty, and delivered him with difficulty.

26.

His bearing and weaning takes 30 months.

27.

Until, when he has attained his maturity, and has reached [40] years, he says,

28.

Lord, enable me to appreciate the blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents,

and to act with righteousness, pleasing You.

29.

And improve my children for me.

30.

I have sincerely repented to You,

and I am of those who have surrendered. ”

31.

16. Those are they from whom We accept the best of their deeds,

and We overlook their misdeeds,

and they are among the dwellers of Paradise—the promise of truth that they are promised.

32.

17. As for him who says to his parents, “Enough of you!

33.

Are you promising me that I will be raised up,

when generations have passed away before me? ”

34.

While they cry for God’s help,

We shall say. “Woe to you!

35.

Believe now! That the promise of God is true! ”

36.

Yet he says, “These are nothing except tales of the ancients. ”

37.

18. Those are they upon whom the sentence is justified,

among the communities that have passed away before them, of jinn and humans.

39.

They are truly losers.

40.

19. There are degrees for everyone, according to what they have done,

and He will repay them for their works in full, and they will not be wronged.

41.

20. On the Day when the faithless will be paraded before the Fire:

42.

We shall say to them “You have squandered your good in your worldly life,

and you took pleasure in them.

43.

So today you are being repaid with the torment of shame,

because of your unjust arrogance on earth,

and because you used to sin against the laws of God. ”

44.

21. And mention the brother of Aad, as he warned his people at the dunes.

45.

Warnings have passed away before him, and after him when the prophet said:

“Worship nothing or no one except God;

46.

I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day. ”

47.

22. They said to the prophet,

“Did you come to us to divert us from our gods?

48.

Then bring us what you threaten us with, if you are being truthful. ”

49.

23. He said, “The knowledge is only with God,

and I inform you of what I was sent with;

50.

yet I see you are an ignorant people. ”

The Sand Dunes                                                                                               CHAPTER THREE

Divisions 51-80

 THE SAND DUNES 46: 24 - 46: 35

51.

24. Then, when they saw a cloud approaching their valley, they said,

“This is a cloud that will bring us rain. ”

52.

He said, “In fact, it is what you were impatient for:

a wind wherein is grievous suffering. ”

53.

25. It will destroy everything by the command of its Lord.

54.

And when the morning came upon them,

there was nothing to be seen except their houses.

55.

Thus We requite the guilty people.

56.

26. We had empowered them in the same way as We empowered you;

and We gave them the hearing, and the sight, and the minds.

57.

Yet neither their hearing, nor their sight,

nor their minds availed them in any way.

58.

That is because they disregarded the revelations of God;

and so they became surrounded by what they used to ridicule.

59.

27. We have destroyed many townships around you,

and diversified the signs, so that they may return.

60.

28. Why then did the idols, whom they worshiped as means of nearness to God, not help them?

61.

In fact, they abandoned them.

62.

It was their lie, a fabrication of their own making.

63.

29. Recall when We dispatched towards you a number of jinn, to listen to the Quran.

64.

When they came in its presence, they said, “Pay attention! ”

65.

Then, when it was concluded, they rushed to their people, warning them.

66.

30. They said, “O our people,

we have heard a Scripture, sent down after Moses, confirming what came before it.

67.

It guides to the truth, and to a straight path.

68.

31. O our people!

Answer the caller to God, and believe in Him;

69.

and He will forgive you your sins,

and will save you from a painful punishment. ”

70.

32. He who does not answer the caller to God will not escape on earth,

and has no protectors besides Him.

71.

These are in obvious error.

72.

33. Do they not realize that God,

who created the heavens and the earth, and was never tired by creating them,

is Able to revive the dead?

73.

Yes indeed;

He is Capable of everything.

74.

34. On the Day when those who disbelieved are presented to the Fire:

it shall be said to them, “Is this not real? ”

75.

They will say, “Yes, indeed, by our Lord. ”

76.

He will say, “Then [taste] [know] the suffering [and shame] for having disbelieved. ”

77.

35. So be patient, as the messengers with resolve were patient,

and do not be hasty regarding them.

78.

On the Day when they witness what they are promised,

it will seem as if they had lasted only for an hour of a day.

79.

A proclamation:

80.

Will any be destroyed except the sinful people?

(the prophet) Mohammed                                                                                       CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

 MOHAMMED 47: 1 - 47: 18

1.

1. Those who disbelieve and repel from the path of God—He nullifies their works.

2.

2. While those who believe, and work righteousness,

and believe in what was sent down to Muhammad—and [that] it is the truth from their Lord—

He remits their sins, and relieves their concerns.

3.

3. That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehoods,

while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord.

4.

God thus cites for the people their examples.

5.

4. When you encounter them that [are corrupt and arrogantly] disbelieve, strike at their necks.

Then, when you have routed them, bind them firmly.

6.

Then, either release them by grace, or by ransom, until war lays down its burdens.

7.

Had God willed, He could have defeated them Himself,

yet He thus tests some of you by means of others.

8.

As for those who are killed in the way of God,

He will not let their deeds go to waste.

9.

5. He will guide them, and will improve their state of [mind] [spirit].

6. And will admit them into Paradise, that He has identified for them.

10.

7. O you who believe!

If you support God, He will support you,

and will strengthen your foothold.

11.

8. Yet as for those who disbelieve, for them is perdition,

and He will waste their deeds.

12.

9. That is because they hated what God revealed,

so He nullified their deeds.

13.

10. Have they not journeyed through the earth

and seen the consequences for those before them?

14.

God poured destruction upon them,

and for the unbelievers is something comparable.

15.

11. That is because God is the Master of those who believe,

while the disbelievers have no master.

16.

12. God will admit those who believe and do good deeds

into gardens beneath which rivers flow.

17.

As for those who disbelieve, they enjoy themselves, and eat as cattle eat,            cows of Bashan

and the Fire will be their spiritual dwelling.

18.

13. How many a town was more powerful than your town that evicted you?

19.

We destroyed them, and there was no helper for them.

20.

14. Is he who stands upon evidence from his Lord,

like someone whose evil deed is made to appear good to him?

21.

And they follow their own desires?

22.

15. The likeness of the Garden promised to the righteous:

in it are rivers of pure water, and rivers of milk forever fresh,

and rivers of wine delightful to the drinkers, and rivers of strained honey.

23.

And therein they will have of every fruit,

and forgiveness from their Lord.

24.

Like one abiding in the Fire forever,

[and] are given to drink boiling water, that cuts up their bowels[? ]

25.

16. Among them are them that listen to you,

yet when they leave your presence,

they say to those given knowledge, “What did he say just now? ”

26.

Those are they whose hearts God has sealed,

and they follow their own desires.

27.

17. As for those who are guided, He increases them in guidance,

and He has granted them their righteousness.

28.

18. Are they that do not listen just waiting until the Hour comes to them suddenly?

29.

Its tokens have already come.

30.

Yet how will they be reminded when it has come to them?
