Life and Chase Intro 2 страница

" Hi boys, " I said, cheerfully.

" Hey April, " they both said ignoring me.

I elbowed Nash.

" And Lexi, " he added.

" Let's watch a movie, " I said.

" I can't, " Nash tossed the remote to Chase " Have a date with Jessica. "

He stood up and ruffled my hair " Have fun ladies. "

" I guess that leaves us, " I said.

" Actually I'm heading out. " Chase stood up.

April shot me a panicked look. I grabbed his shirt sleeve, stopping him in his tracks.

" I bet you twenty bucks, that I can kick your ass in Twister. " I smirked.

" Is that a challenge? " he asked.

I nodded.

" Fine bring it on, " he said " Both of you against me. "

" Nice one, " April said when Chase left to retrieve the mat and spinner.

" April we have to win. " I gripped her arm.

She rolled her eyes, peeling my fingers off her arm.

" Why are you so damn competitive? " she asked.

" It's in my blood. " I shrugged.

" Okay ladies, I'll try to go easy on you, " Chase said, putting the mat on the floor.

I pushed him and he fell on the mat.

" You were saying. " I smirked.

April laughed.

" Okay fine. " Chase nodded " I'll bring my A game. "

" April left hand blue, " I called in the most uncomfortable position.

Chase had a Cheshire grin on his face, his arm pressed against my boobs. How I wanted to drop myself on purpose, but I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. She moved her hand, her face close to Chase's. I could see her skin redden by the close proximity.

" Hey, " Chase whispered.

" No talking, " I said sharply.

He was trying to overwhelm her so she caved. But that wasn't going to happen not on my watch. He leaned forward until April's back hit the mat.

Damn it.

" She's out, " Chase cried, gleefully.

" Sorry, " April muttered.

" It's not your fault, he used his advances on you, " I said.

Chase and I went for another half hour. My muscles were strained beyond belief.

" Just give it up, Chase, " I said, breathlessly.

Chase managed to rub his grubby paws all over my body. More than any guy had ever touched me.

" You're a horrible opportunist, " I said.

I couldn't handle the strain, exhaustion and Chase feeling me up so I just let my body hit the floor.

" I win, " he said, victoriously.

" By default, " I added.

" Give me my money. " he opened his hand.

" I'll go grab it, " I said, grudgingly.

" The victor can choose the movie, " April said.

" All right, " Chase drawled.

I left climbing up to my room, hearing April boost his twister skills. He only won, because he couldn't keep his damn hands to himself.

I found a twenty dollar bill on my drawer and stuffed it into my pocket. I heard the familiar ring tone of April's phone and answered it, not wanting to interrupt her conversation with Chase.

" Hello. "

" April? " a male voice asked.

" Nope, it's Lexi, " I said.

" Oh hey Lexi, It's Colin, " he said.

I felt my heart warm and I clutched the phone tighter, throwing myself on my bed.

" Colin, hi, " I said.

Colin was April's gorgeous older brother currently in his first year of college at Penn State. I had a crush on him for the longest time. I didn't share this with April since nothing would ever happen between us with our two year difference. Besides he probably dated beautiful college girls now.

" How have you been Lexi? " he asked.

" I'm good, " I said " What about you? "

" You know college. It's dragging me down. " he sighed.

" You'll get through it, " I encouraged.

" You always were my little cheerleader weren't you, " he said warmly.

I melted at his words. He was flirting with me I could feel it. I flipped my hair before realizing we were on the phone and he couldn't see me.

" So anyways I was just calling April to tell her that mom said she can miss school and pick me up tomorrow, " he said.

" Wait your coming home? " I asked, leaning forward.

" Yeah for the week I thought April would have told you. "

" She didn't, " I breathed.

I was about ready to strangle April for forgetting such an important detail.

" Can I come pick you up too? " I asked, suddenly.

I couldn't wait to see him.

" Depends are you doing it because you're eager to skip class or because you miss me? " Colin asked.

Definitely flirting.

" I miss you, " I said.

" Good, cause I miss you too, " he said.

I closed my eyes committing his words to memory.

" Bye, Colin, " I said.

" Bye, Lexi. "

I got off my bed and went down the stairs. I saw Chase and April sitting on the couch, rather closely. I slowly climbed back up, letting April be in content for awhile before I gave her hell for not telling me about Colin's arrival.

Besides I had a lot to plan before I saw Colin tomorrow.

" Mom do these ear rings make me look older? " I asked barging into my parent’s room.

" You look so pretty, Lexi, " my mom said helping my dad fix his tie.

I better. I woke up at six this morning to curl my hair so it ran down my back and applied everything from bronzer to eye shadow and every other product in my washroom.

I picked out a short dark blue dress with tiny white dots, with enough cleavage to keep him guessing and brown wedges. I don't remember ever making this much effort for anything in my life.

" What's the occasion? " my mom asked delighted.

" I have a presentation, " I lied.

" So these ear rings? " I asked, raising them up.

She nodded " You look like a young woman. "

I smiled brightly and headed back to my room. I really didn’t want Colin to get the impression that I was a kid.

I heard April honk her horn and grabbed my purse and ran down the stairs.

Chase and Nash were eating on the table.

I grabbed a muffin over Chase's shoulder. He turned to look at me but since my chest was in the way ended up staring down my dress.

" Nice, " he drawled.

" Stop looking at my freaking sister, " Nash snapped.

I pulled back glaring at him.

" Gross, " I muttered.

" Why are you so fancy today? " Chase narrowed his eyes.

" I have a presentation, " I lied again.

" Why don't you wear a jacket? " Nash suggested.

" Why don't you wear a paper bag over your head? " I retorted.

" Feisty, " Chase muttered.

" Okay I'm almost done eating, " Nash said.

" Don't bother, " I held up my hand " April is driving me. "

" You look gorgeous, " April gushed.

" Thanks. " I smiled.

" What's the occasion? " she asked.

" Can't I dress up for myself? " I asked.

" True, " she nodded.

She drove until we were on the highway to the airport.

I played with my hands nervously.

" We should have bought a sign or something, " I said staring at the masses of bodies.

" He said he would be wearing a white t-shirt, " April said.

" How helpful, " I said sarcastically.

I finally saw him walking towards us. He looked absolutely gorgeous, his black hair falling into his dark blue eyes. His white shirt hugged his muscular frame and he was wearing khaki shorts.

" Colin. " April waved excitedly.

He did this beautiful half smile of his.

He engulfed her in a bear hug, lifting her up.

" Missed you, April, " he said.

" You too, " she said.

He pulled back staring at her up and down " Did you grow taller? "

" Stop it. " she smacked his shoulder.

" I'm serious. " he laughed.

His eyes suddenly turned to me. He stared me up and down slowly.

" Lexi, " he said.

" Hey. " I smiled.

He stepped towards me and hugged me, his strong arms wrapping around my waist, slightly lifting my dress up.

He pulled back inches away from me.

" You look so much more beautiful than I remember, " he said " My memory didn't do you justice. "

" Stop, " I said blushing.

" I'm not joking, " he added.

" Stop flirting with her, " April said " You just got here for god’s sake. "

" I'll drive, " he said.

April tossed him the keys.

" Shot gun! " I yelled.

The car ride was filled with April and Colin catching up. Him talking about his lacrosse and her about her piano recitals.

" You’re awfully quite, " Colin said his hand brushing my thigh, which made my heart flutter.

" Don't want to interrupt you guys. "

We finally reached their house, a large white three story house a few miles down from the beach.

Colin went to the back to get his bags and April and I headed inside.

" I forgot how much I missed him, " she said.

" Yeah, " I said.

" He's being really friendly to you. Don't you think? " she asked.

Colin and I never talked much and all of a sudden he was touching me and telling me he missed me.

" He seems the same. " I shrugged.

He came back in with his bags and I took the time to appreciate his muscular arms flexing with the effort.

" Okay April go to school, " he said dropping his bags on the wooden floor.

" What no, " she said exasperated " Mom said if I picked you up I could stay home for the rest of the day. "

" Well moms not here so run along, " he said.

" You can't make me. " she folded her arms.

I watched them both amused. This must be how Chase felt when Nash and I fought.

" April, " he repeated.

He was so intimidating with his arms folded across his chest, glowering down at her.

" What about Lexi? " she asked.

" Lexi isn't my sister, " he said.

" Fine. " she stomped away then stopped " C'mon Lexi I'll drive you home. "

I took a step forward, when I felt Colin's grip on my arm.

" Actually Lexi is going to help me unpack, " he said " And I'll drive her home. "

" So unfair, " April muttered, walking away.

" I thought you'd be old enough to unpack your own stuff, " I said amused.

" I wanted to spend a little time with you. " he smiled.

" So you sent April away to spend time with me? "

He nodded.

I was wondering exactly when we became so close. Our relationship usually just consisted of hi's and bye's.

" Let's start unpacking then, " I said nervously.

I brushed past him and climbed up the stairs to his room.

" So how's college? " I asked " Any girlfriends? "

" Nope the girls there just don't measure up to the ones in California" he said looking at me.

I blushed.

" How about you any boyfriends? " he asked casually.

" With my overbearing brother and his annoying best friend, it's a wonder I can even breathe sometimes, " I said.

" Well that's good you need to be protected, " he said.

I sighed " Not you too. "

" I'm not saying you shouldn't live your life, just that you're an attractive girl and guys might try to take advantage of you. " he shrugged.

" I just want to have fun sometimes, ” I said " Be my own person. "

He tossed the hanger in his hand on the bed and walked towards me, he held my hand.

I looked up at him even in my wedges. He was still a head taller than me.

" Then do whatever you want, " he said " Break out of their hold. "

" It's not that easy, " I whispered.

" I'll show you how, " he promised " I'll be here for the week, spend the week with me. "

" I would have thought you'd want to be with your family and catch up with your friends, " I said.

" I'll see them all during the winter break. " he shrugged.

" Okay. " I smiled.

He smiled brightly.

" I will show you a good time Lexi, " he said.

And I had no doubt he would.

" Who gave you a ride back home? " Chase asked the minute I entered the living room.

" April, " I said.

He stared at me for a minute before going back to his video game.

" Fine, " he said.

" What’s stuck up your ass? " I asked sitting on the couch.

" I don't like losing sight of you, " he said " I haven't see you all day. "

" You're not my bodyguard, " I said drily.

" I know, " he said " Just a concerned friend. "

The last thing I would call him was a friend.

I grabbed the other controller and schooled him. He stared at me with grudging admiration.

" You never fail to impress me, little Lex. " he smiled.

I stood up to change into something more comfortable.

" Tonight is our first game, " Chase mentioned.

" Cool, " I said.

" Are you coming? " he asked.

" Does Nash want me to come? " I asked.

" No, but I want you to, " he said looking up at me under his lashes.

" You know those games bore me, " I reminded.

" But you're my good luck charm, " he whined " Without you I'm going to lose. "

" That was one game and it was a coincidence, " I said.

Last year I went to their game and they were facing Riverside their rivals. We never won a game facing them for like years and they won that day, which lead to Chase believing I was his damn good luck charm.

" Please if you don't I'll lose, " he pleaded " And nobody likes me when I lose. "

I could never say no to him when he begged me and he was a sore loser after all.

" Okay, " I said.

" It starts in two hours, " he called.

I climbed up to my room and took a well deserved nap.

" Wake up. " Chase shook me.

" Just five more minutes, " I murmured digging my face into my pillow.

" Lexi please, " he said " Coach will eat me if I'm late. "

I opened my eyes unwillingly and zombie walked to the washroom.

" You're still here, " I said " I have to change. "

" Just making sure you wouldn't fall back asleep. " he stood up " Dress fast and not as cute as today. "

" Why are you scared some poor boy is going to fall in love with me? " I asked.

" The opposite, that you're going to seduce some poor boy into falling for you. " he shook his head.

" Just get out of my room, " I said, slamming the door in his face.

I grabbed a tank top and shorts heading out.

" You're coming? " Nash asked pulling on a sweatshirt.

" Your superstitious friend, won't let me stay, " I said.

He laughed, his blond hair sticking up in all different directions.

" Okay do you want to ride with me? " he asked.

I nodded.

I liked riding with Nash, only because he let me play with his radio.

He started the car and was about to pull out when Chase opened the back door.

" What the hell dude? " Nash yelled " I could have run over your foot. "

" Well you would have experienced the same amount of pain as I would, if you did, " Chase said.

Nash started driving.

" You have a car. Why do you always car pool? " I asked.

" Because I hate driving and I pay for gas out of my money. " he shrugged.

" I'm going to start charging you, " Nash said.

I sat on the bleachers, placing my face in my palms. I was so early the boys weren't even on the field yet.

The game was about to start. The boys were standing in position. Chase winked at me, before putting on his helmet. The girls behind me swooned and giggled thinking it was for them. I rolled my eyes.

We were halfway through the game and they were winning, they were going to take it home. I could feel it.

My phone rang. I stared at the number, it wasn't a familiar one.

" Hello. " I stood up and walked away from the cheering and yelling.

" Hey Lexi, " Colin said.

" Hi Colin, " I said excited.

" Do you want to hang out? " he asked.

I ran my hand through my hair frustrated. I couldn't leave Nash would wonder where I went. Chase would be upset that I missed the ending of his game.

" I'm sorry, Colin I'm at my brother's game and I can't really leave, " I said bummed.

" I'm here for only a week, " he reminded " Please Lex I want to see you. ”

" Okay fine come to the parking lot of school, " I said.

I sat on the curb, hugging myself against the breeze. Why did I wear a damn tank top? Damn the Malibu weather, the days were hot and the nights cool.

I spotted his car, a Mustang that he used to cherish when he lived here.

" Sorry for coming at an inconvenient time, " he apologized.

" It's okay, " I waved it off.

" Are you sure? " he asked " You seemed pretty hesitant on the phone. "

" My brother and Chase, would flip if they couldn't find me, " I explained.

" Tell them you're sick when they call, " he offered.

I smiled and looked out the window. I never thought I would ever be asked to go anywhere with Colin Tanner.

" So where are you taking me? " I asked.

" Remember the park, we used to play in when we were kids? " he asked.

" Yeah, Gold View Park, " I said.

" Well we are going there, " he said.

" But the parks been closed for years, " I reminded.

He smiled devilishly " We can break in. "

I felt my heart race at the thought of trespassing. I wasn't the bravest person nor was I the most daring.

He placed his hand on my thigh.

" Don't worry, I'll protect you" he said.

He parked the car and got out, walking around to open my door. I stepped out shivering against the cool breeze. He opened the back door and pulled out a sweatshirt with the words Penn State written on it.

" Thanks. " I smiled.

I pulled it over my head, it smelt like pines and fabric softener and it stopped mid thigh covering my shorts. So it appeared that I was wearing nothing.

He grabbed my hand and we walked towards the locked gates.

" Colin, I'm scared, " I said, staring at the dark trees.

" Don't be, I'll protect you, " he repeated.

I nodded.

He climbed over the fence and jumped down I followed suit.

" I'll catch you. " he smiled.

I let go and feel into his strong arms. I stared up into his beautiful blue eyes looking almost black in the night sky.

He let me go and I felt disappointed that I wasn’t in his arms for longer.

He pushed me on the swing and the wind blew my hair back.

" So your brother’s friend, " Colin started.

" Yeah, " I said, waiting for him to go on.

" What’s his deal with you? " he asked.

I shrugged " He annoys me and infuriates me, but he is also super protective of me and always puts me before anyone else. "

" Seems like he has a crush on you, " he said.

I scoffed " He slept with almost every girl at school. "

" What’s his name? " he asked

" Chase Matthews. "

He stopped pushing and stood in front of me.

" Chase Matthews, " he repeated seemingly appalled by his name " I hate that guy. "

" Weren't you guys co-captains of the lacrosse team last year? " I asked.

" Yes, " he said " I can't stand his guts. "

" He hates you too, " I said.

" Well forget him, " he shook his head, his hair falling on his forehead.

I got off the swing and sat on the sand, running my hand through it and watching it slip between my fingers. Colin sat beside me, his thigh brushing mine.

We started building a sand castle, which was kind of hard to do seeing as to how we didn't have any buckets or shovels. His fingers ran through mine multiple times when we were building, which felt oddly sexual.

" You're doing it wrong. " he whined.

I laughed " You're eighteen and you're upset about how I build my side of the castle. "

" Almost nineteen, " he corrected.

I was still sixteen and he was almost nineteen. I don't understand how he never still saw me as a kid.

He leaned forward to correct my side. I was staring at his soft lips. He looked up at me and slowly began to lean forward. I felt my breath catch in my throat.

We were so close, when my phone suddenly rang.

" Sorry, " I apologized.

I cursed whoever decided to call me at the worst time ever.

" Hello, " I said.

" Lexi, " Chase said " Where are you we're leaving? "

" I didn't feel well so I came home, " I lied.

" Are you okay? " he asked concerned.

I felt the guilt pooling in my stomach at his concern.

" Yeah I'm fine, " I said " My lab partner from Biology drove me home. "

" Is it a girl? " he asked.

" Does it really matter? " I asked annoyed.

He remained silent.

" Fine. " I sighed " Yes it was. "

" Good. We'll be heading home late, tell your parents, " he said.

" Okay, bye. "

I hung up.

" Your brother? " he asked.

" No Chase. " I sighed.

He nodded " C'mon I'll drive you home. "

" What, no we're not done our castle, " I said and he hadn't kissed me yet.

" It won't go anywhere and I'd rather your brother didn't come home and find you missing. " he stood up and held out his hand.

" I don't want to. " I pouted.

" I'll see you tomorrow, " he promised " After school I'll park around the corner. "

" Okay, fine. " I grabbed his hand.

We drove home in comfortable silence.

He stopped in front of my house. I began to lift off his sweatshirt, he grabbed my hand.

" Keep it, " he said, his voice sounding soft against the dark night.

" Are you sure? " I asked.

" I have plenty of them, back at my dorm. "

" Okay, thanks" I smiled.

I leaned forward and kissed his cheek.

I walked in the house.

" Lexi? " my mum asked.

" Yeah it's me, " I called.

I walked into the kitchen and found her at the table, drinking her green tea, it was a nightly ritual.

" How was the game? " she asked.

I sat in front of her.

" I don't know, " I said " I missed the ending. "

" What for? " she asked taking a sip.

" Well you can't tell Nash and Chase, " I said.

" I promise, " she said.

" I meet a boy. " I smiled widely.

" Honey, that's great. " she squealed.

" Yeah he's amazing, " I said.

" Does he want to go to UPenn? " she asked staring at my sweatshirt.

" Oh yeah it’s his dream college, " I lied.

I wasn't sure, how my mom would feel about me hanging out with a college boy.

" Well that's good for you. " mom smiled " You deserve someone good. "

I climbed upstairs and fell asleep, anxious for tomorrow.

c h a p t e r s e v e n

My room door opened in the morning. I opened my eyes to see Chase standing shirtless in my doorway his mouth covered in chocolate and holding an empty chocolate box in his hands.

" Hey Lexi. " he smiled.

" Get out of my room, " I groaned.

" Are you still sick? " he asked.

I stared at him confused, before I remembered my little lie last night. I needed to start keeping track of all my lies.

" I feel better, thanks. "

" Well I thought you had cramps, so I ran to the convenience store to buy you chocolate, but I got hungry and ate all of it on the way, " he said looking down ashamed.

I smiled softly at him, touched by the effort.

" Thank you, Chasey, " I said using his stupid nickname for himself.

" You never call me that. " he smiled.

" Well don't get used to it, " I said.

" If you really want some, you can kiss it off my lips, " he offered.

" I'd rather starve, " I said.

" C'mon I'll drive you. " he patted my knee and stood up.

I got ready and headed down.

" What are you doing? " I asked when Chase passed the school building.

" I want coffee, " he said casually.

" I'll be late, " I said annoyed.

" Your problem. " he shrugged.

I would attack him, but then I'd risk the chance of dying in a car accident.

He stopped at our local coffee shop named Spencer's Coffee. Spencer’s Coffee had the best coffee and scones.

" Feel free to sit in the car, " he said " Maybe you'll get a heat stroke that will bring you to your senses. "

" Hell no, " I said " You dragged me all the way down here. I'm getting a coffee. "

" Fair enough. "

We stood in line and the worst part was that it was moving at a snail like pace. At this rate I would make it to the last five minutes of class.

" I'm going to tell Nash, that you're making me late, " I threatened.

" I'm quacking in my boots, " he said sarcastically " Besides you're more than welcome to ride with Nash. Hopefully a taste of him and Jessica sucking face in the morning will wake you up. "

I remained silent. I would rather not earn my high school diploma then be subjected to that form of torture.

" Lexi, " a male voice said.

I turned around to see Colin standing behind me, looking gorgeous in a blue shirt that bought out his eyes.

" Hey Colin. " I smiled.

" You have got to be kidding me, " Chase said, looking extremely disgusted.

" Nice to see you to, Matthew's, " he said.

But it was clear in his tone that there was nothing nice about seeing Chase.

" Why are you back in town? " Chase asked " Did they kick you out already? "

" Not that it is any of your business, but I came to relax, " he said " And seeing your face is not very relaxing. "

" That's not what half of your girlfriends said, when I banged them. " Chase smirked.

" You son of a bitch, " Colin snapped.

I placed my hand on his chest and he visibly relaxed under my touch.

" Don't listen to him Colin, " I whispered.

He nodded " You're right. "

" Don't touch him, " Chase hissed, grabbing my waist.

I opened my mouth to apologize to Colin, but Chase was already dragging me out the door.

" Later, " he mouthed.

I nodded. We stepped out into the sun.

" I can't believe the audacity he has, walking into my town. " he ran his hand through his hair.

" This isn't your town, " I said " And if you ever drag me away like a little child. I will kick you in the balls. "

" Are you serious? " he said exasperated " I was protecting you from his awful presence. "

" Just drive me to school. " I walked to my seat.

We never even got coffee.
