Substance abuse. Sickness. Shady past. Career path changeSubstance abuse How do I explain a 2 year gap on my resume if the gap was due to not so great reasons? I was not doing any volunteer work neither were there any family issues. I did travel a bit, but largely the gap happened because of substance abuse. I am out of it now and recently I had applied to a big firm, but they turned me down because of the large gap in work. I don’t know how to explain this without looking bad. Sickness After a successful nine-year career as a computer programmer for a large corporation, I must have taken a sick leave to recover from a serious food poisoning. During that time I worked on completing my bachelor's degree in business management. Also, I have been preparing for the next step in my career by developing the exact set of skills that many companies are currently seeking, foreign languages and negotiations. I am afraid that such a long sick leave may affect negatively my upcoming job interview. How should I talk about it?
Shady past I am 28 years old. Last three years I have spent in a correctional facility, where I was sent for the crime I have not committed. During that time I have finished high school for adults and welding course. I've been successfully using my new gained skills in the penitentiary and therefore gained experience in welding. I am being released next month and would like to get a welding job, but I’m afraid my past may affect my future. How should I talk about my past to make a good impression?
Career path change I have been working as a logistic specialist for the past 15 years and was promoted many times. Right now I find this job very boring and at times too stressful. I would like to change my profession and start working in advertising so I have started a marketing course at the local college. How can I convince a potential employer, that I will be good for the job with no previous experience in that field?
