METHODS

To achieve our goal we carried out the secondary research, new data collection of the number of posts, online groups, videos in the most popular social networks in Russia. We made content analysis of the social media posts. During February 2020 we conducted our experimental research based on the study of the most popular social networks in Russia such as Facebook, Instagram, Odnoklassniki, Vkontakte.

The research was conducted by searching posts, online groups and videos in the specified social networks using such search queries as СО2, Capture of СО2, Greenhouse gases, Carbon dioxide, Carbon, Utilization of СО2, Issue of СО2, CCS technologies, Carbondioxide, Carbondioxide emissions.

After data collection the quantitative data processing operation was made by MS Office.

Before carrying out the experimental study we determined the research hypothesis. Currently there is a shortage of information on carbon dioxide capture and storage technologies or it is not widely spread in the social networks.

 

RESULTS

The study results are presented in Table 2 and  Table 3.

Table 2 shows that Instagram presents a great number of posts on general environmental topics related to СО2 emissions and greenhouse gases. Its total number is more than 450000 posts. Also, we could find 8 online groups in Instagram on the specified topics. However, most posts are focused on specific topics. Unfortunately, we did not obtain any searching results in Instagram by using such search queries as СО2 capture, СО2 storage, СО2 reduction, СО2 emissions, CCS-technology.

Table 3 shows the searching results in the social networks Vkontakte, Facebook, Odnoklassniki. Thus, we have a clear idea that there is a limited number of online groups related to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions reduction, no more than 10 at present. But the shortage of videos and online communities investigated in the social networks is not surprising. However, it should be noted that the network Facebook is characterized by a great variety of environmental issues discussed in the investigated videos. It is also noteworthy that two of the three presented social networks have videos on CO2 capture, as well as videos on СО2 utilization in Vkontakte. Obviously, the Fund Russian Carbon is presented in the two social networks.
