Conclusion

PMCs are a very tricky subject in the sphere of International Humanitarian Law due to them being a grey matter in the ‘black and white’ dichotomy right now. It is possible that without enough effort from the international community they could become what we’ve described above: black market driven destructive force available to anyone’s interest. And as we’ve learnt from numerous anti utopian movies - you never want the bad guys to have a high-level military force at their hands ready to operate at their command! Luckily, there are many ways that PMC could be regulated: starting from prohibition of certain actions and ending with creation of conventions which would introduce requirements, lists of services and other specifications regarding the actions of PMC; or even creation of separate international bodies able to control and overview the PMC around the world.

Currently the relationship between International Humanitarian Law and PMC is at the crossroad awaiting further action or inaction to determine the way things will develop. As we’ve mentioned earlier on this paper, it is hard to pick a side here and define certain black and white aspects of PMC operating, but we’ve done our best to provide you with arguments which could help you make your mind up on the issue.
