!!! IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CAN USE AMERICAN WAY OF USE!!!

4. !!!! WHERE WE USE COMMA (ЗАПЯТАЯ), THEY USE POINT (ТОЧКА) (AND VICE VERSA) (НАОБОРОРТ). AND ALL THE FIGURES AFTER THE POINT ARE PRONOUNCED SEPARATELY (РАЗДЕЛЬНО):

3. 14 — OUR 3, 14 (три целых, четырнадцать сотых)— THREE POINT ONE FOUR

15. 15 — FIFTEEN POINT ONE FIVE

546. 132 can be read as " five hundred and forty-six point one-three-two

!!!!

Both in British English and in American English groups of three digits in numerals of one thousand and higher are usually separated by a comma, counting from the right: 4, 286; 12, 345; 378, 925; 6, 540, 210.

AND WE USE POINT IN RUSSIAN IN THIS CASE.

5. FRACTIONS (ПРОСТЫЕ ДРОБИ)

Pay attention that when you write fractions with words, not symbols, you also need to use hyphen (-). For example: 1/7 will be one-seventh. But, when the numerator or denominator is already hyphenated you don’t need to use one more hyphen. For example: 1/25 will be one twenty-fifth, NOT one-twenty-fifth. Here are more examples of fractions, represented by symbols and words:

· 1/2 – one-half / a half;

· 1/3 – one-third;

· 1/4 – one-fourth / a quarter;

· 1/5 – one-fifth;

· 1/8 – one-eighth;

· 1/9 – one-ninth;

· 1/10 – one-tenth;

· 1/12 – one-twelfth;

· 1/20 – one twentieth;

· 1/32 – one thirty-second;

· 1/100 – one-hundredth;

· 1/1000 – one-thousandth;

· 2/3 – two-thirds; 4/5 – four-fifths;

· 3/4 – three-fourths / three-quarters;

· 5/8 – five-eighths; 9/10 – nine-tenths;

· 7/36 – seven thirty-sixths;

· 33/100 – thirty-three hundredths;

· 65/1000 – sixty-five thousandths;

· 1 1/2 – one and a half;

· 1 1/4 – one and a quarter;

· 3 2/5 – three and two-fifths;

· 6 3/7 – six and three-sevenths.

6. YEARS

Earlier years are pronounced differently: the first two figures are a number and the last two figures are a number.

1100 – eleven hundred
1500 – fifteen hundred
1900 – nineteen hundred

1543 – fifteen (and) forty-three
1679 – sixteen (and) seventy-nine
1810 – eighteen (and) ten
1995 – nineteen (and) ninety-five

From 2000 onwards, years are pronounced in two ways:

2003 – two thousand (and) three
2009 – two thousand (and) nine
2010 – two thousand (and) ten or twenty (20) ten (10)
2013 – two thousand (and) thirteen or twenty (20) thirteen (13)
2020 – two thousand (and) twenty or twenty (20) twenty (20)

To distinguish between dates before and after the birth of Christ, use BC und AD:

BC = 'Before Christ' — до нашей эры

AD = 'Anno Domini' — нашей эры
