Which ‘s’ is correct?

In the English language, the letter ‘s’ is used to mark several things. It can be either plural (s), possession (‘s), or plural possession (s’)  with nouns and the third person singular (s) with verbs. When writing down spoken English, ‘s replaces either ‘is’ or ‘has’.

Examples:

Plural:

many apples, a lot of sweets, some words, etc.

Possession:

my father’s sister, the girl’s hair, the parents’ car, the trees’ flowers, etc.

3rd person singular:

The boy runs. The child cries. Their father buys presents. etc.

is or has:

He’s a butcher. She’s got a nice house. It’s not a tree, it’s a bush.
