As for him who was defiant, 38. and preferred the life of this world, 39. then Hell is the shelter. 25. 40. Yet as for him who feared the Standing of his Lord, and restrained the self from desires, 41. then Paradise is the shelter.
26. 42. They ask you about the Hour, “When will it take place? ” 27. 43. You have no knowledge of it. 28. 44. To your Lord is its finality. 29. 45. You are just a warner for whoever dreads it.
30. 46. On the Day when they witness it —as though they only stayed an evening, or its morning.
He Frowned CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-25 HE FROWNED 80: 1 - 80: 42 1. 1. He frowned and turned away, 2. when the blind man approached him. 2. 3. Yet how do you know? Perhaps he was seeking to purify himself, 4. Or be reminded, and the message would benefit him. 3. 5. Yet as for him who was indifferent, 6. You gave him your attention. 4. 7. Though you are not liable if he does not purify himself.
5. 8. Yet as for him who came to you seeking. 9. in awe. 10. to him you were inattentive. 6. 11. Do not be. 7. This is a Lesson. 8. 12. Whoever wills, shall remember it. 13. On honorable pages. 14. Exalted and purified. 15. By the hands of scribes. 16. Noble and devoted.
10. 17. Perish man! How thankless he is! 11. 18. From what did He create him? 12. 19. From a sperm drop He created him, and enabled him. 20. Then He eased the way for him. 13. 21. Then He puts him to death, and buries him. 14. 22. Then, when He wills, He will resurrect him. 15. 23. Yet no, he did not fulfill what He has commanded him.
16. 24. Let man consider his food. 17. 25. We pour down water in abundance, 26. then crack the soil open. 18. 27. And grow in it grains. 28. And grapes and herbs. 29. And olives and dates. 19. 30. And luscious gardens. 31. And fruits and vegetables. 20. 32. Enjoyment for you, and for your livestock.
21. 33. Yet when the Deafening Noise comes to pass, 34. the Day when a person will flee from his brother, 35. And his mother and his father, 36. And from his consort and his children, 22. 37. every one of them, on that Day, will have enough to preoccupy him.
23. 38. Faces on that Day will be radiant, 39. laughing and rejoicing. 24. 40. And Faces on that Day will be covered with misery, 41. overwhelmed by remorse. 25. 42. These are the faithless, the vicious.
the Folding Up [of the Skies] CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1- 20 THE FOLDING UP 81: 1 - 81: 29 1. 1. When the sunisrolled up. 2. When the stars are dimmed. 2. 3. When the mountains are set in motion. 4. When the relationships are suspended. 3. 5. When the beasts are gathered. 6. When the oceans are set aflame. 4. 7. When the souls are paired. 5. 8. When the girl, buried alive, is asked: 9. For what crime was she killed?
6. 10. When the records are made public. 7. 11. When the sky is peeled away. 8. 12. When the Fire is set ablaze. 9. 13. When Paradise is brought near. 10. 14. Each soul will know what it has readied.
11. 15. I swear by the galaxies, 16. precisely running their courses. 12. 17. And by the night as it recedes. 18. And by the morn as it breathes. 13. 19. This is the speech of a noble messenger, 20. endowed with power, eminent with the Lord of the Throne.
14. 21. Obedient and honest, 22. your friend is not possessed.
15. 23. He saw him (his image) on the luminous horizon of dawn, 16. 24. And he does not withhold knowledge of the Unseen. 17. 25. And it is not the word of an accursed devil.
18. 26. So where are you heading? 19. 27. It is only a Reminder to all mankind, 28. to whoever of you wills to go straight.
20. 29. Yet you cannot will, unless God wills —the Lord of the Worlds.
the Breaking Apart [of the Skies] CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-1 5 THE BREAKING APART 82: 1 - 82: 19 1. 1. When the sky breaks apart. 2. When the planets are scattered. 2. 3. When the oceans are exploded. 4. When the tombs are strewn around. 3. 5. Each soul will know what it has advanced, and what it has deferred.
4. 6. O man! What deluded you concerning your Lord, the Most Generous? 5. 7. He Who created you, and formed you, and proportioned you? 6. 8. In whatever shape He willed, He assembled you. 7. 9. Yet you reject the religion. 10. Though over you are watchers. 11. Honest recorders. 8. 12. They know everything you do.
9. 13. The virtuous will be in bliss. 14. While the wicked will be in Hell. 10. 15. They will enter it on the Day of Justice. 11. 16. And they will not be absent from it.
12. 17. Yet what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is? 13. 18. Then again, what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is? 14. 19. The Day when no soul will avail another soul anything; 15. and the decision on that Day is God’s.
the Defrauders CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-25 THE DEFRAUDERS 83: 1 - 83: 36 1. 1. Woe to the defrauders. 2. Those who, when they take a measure from people, they take in full, 3. yet when they measure or weigh to others, they cheat. 2. 4. Do these not know that they will be resurrected? 5. For a Great Day? 6. The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 3. 7. Not at all. (will they know that they will be resurrected)
4. The record of the wicked is in Sijjeen. 8. yet how can you know what Sijjeen is? [ ] 5. 9. A numerical book.
6. 10. Woe on that Day to the deniers, 11. those that deny the Day of Reckoning. 7. 12. Yet none denies it except the sinful aggressor. 8. 13. When Our revelations are recited to him, he says, “Legends of the ancients. ” 9. 14. Not at all. (legends of the ancients)
10. Their hearts have become corroded by what they used to earn. 11. 15. Not at all. (will they earn what they used to) 12. On that Day, they will be screened away from their Lord, God, 16. then they will roast in Hell.
13. 17. Then it will be said, “This is what you used to deny. ” 14. 18. No indeed; the record of the righteous is in Elliyyeen. 15. 19. Yet how can you know what Elliyyoon is? [ ] 16. 20. A numerical book, 21. witnessed by those brought near.
17. 22. Indeed, the righteous will be amid bliss, 23. on thrones, looking on. 18. 24. You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss. 19. 25. They will be given to drink a sealed wine, 26. whose seal is musk 20. —this is what competitors should compete for.
21. 27. Its mixture is of Tasneem, 28. a spring from where those brought near drink.
22. 29. Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 30. And when they passed by them, they would wink at one another. 31. And when they went back to their families, they would go back exulting. 23. 32. And if they saw them, they would say, “These people are lost. ” 33. Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
24. 34. Yet on that Day, them who believed will laugh at the unbelievers, 35. seated on luxurious furnishings, looking on at the unbelievers. 25. 36. Have the unbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?
the Hearkening of the Skies CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 THE HEARKENING OF THE SKIES 84: 1 - 84: 25 1. 1. When the sky is ruptured, 2. and hearkens to its Lord, as it must. 2. 3. And when the earth is leveled out, 4. And casts out what is in it, and becomes empty, 5. And hearkens to its Lord, as it must. 3. 6. O man! You are laboring towards your Lord, and you will meet Him.
4. 7. As for him who is given his book in his right hand, 8. he will have an easy settlement, 9. and will return to his family delighted. 5. 10. Yet as for him who is given his book behind his back. 11. he will call for death. 12. and will enter the blaze.
6. 13. He used to be happy among his family, 14. He thought he would never return. 7. 15. In fact, his Lord was watching him.
8. 16. I swear by the twilight, 17. and by the night, and what it covers, 9. 18. and by the moon, as it grows full, 19. you will mount the Heavens stage by stage. 10. 20. What is the matter with them that they do not believe? 11. 21. And when the Quran is read to them, they do not bow down?
12. 22. In fact, those who disbelieve are in denial. 13. 23. Yet God knows what they hide inside.
14. 24. So inform them of a painful punishment. 15. 25. Except those who believe and do good deeds; they will have an undiminished reward.
the Constellations of the Skies CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 THE 85: 1 - 85: 22 1. 1. By the sky with the constellations, 2. and by the Promised Day, 3. and by the witness and the witnessed, 4. destroyed were the People of the Trench. 2. 5. The fire supplied with fuel, 6. while they sat around it, 7. And were witnessing what they did to the believers.
3. 8. They begrudged them only because they believed in God the Almighty, the Praiseworthy. 9. To Whom belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. 4. God is witness over everything.
5. 10. Those that tempt the believers, men and women, and then do not repent when called away from corruption; for them is the punishment of Hell; 6. for them is the punishment of Burning.
7. 11. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have Gardens that rivers flow beneath. 8. That is the great triumph.
9. 12. The onslaught of your Lord is severe. 10. 13. It is He who begins and repeats, 14. and He is the Forgiving, the Loving, 11. 15. Possessor of the Glorious Throne, 16. Doer of whatever He wills.
12. 17. Has there come to you the story of the legions 18. of Pharaoh and Thamood?
13. 19. In fact, those who disbelieve are in denial. 14. 20. And God encloses them from beyond. 15. 21. In fact, it is a glorious Quran, 22. in a Preserved Tablet.
the Star Tariq CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 THE STAR TARIQ 86: 1 - 86: 17 1. 1. By the sky and al-Tariq.
2. 2. Yet what will let you know what al-Tariq is? 3. 3. The piercing star. (meteorite? )
4. 4. There is no soul without a Protector over it. 5. 5. Let man consider what he was created from. 6. 6. He was created from gushing liquid, 7. issuing from between the backbone and the breastbones.
7. 8. He is certainly able to return him 9. on the Day when the secrets are disclosed. 8. 10. He will have no strength, and no supporter.
9. 11. By the sky that returns, 12. and the earth that cracks open, 10. 13. it is a Decisive Word. 11. 14. It is no joke.
12. 15. They plot and scheme. 13. 16. Yet I plot and scheme.
14. 17. Therefore, give the blasphemers respite, 15. a brief respite.
God, the Most Great CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 THE MOST GREAT 87: 1 - 87: 19 1. 1. Praise the Name of your Lord God, the Most High. 2. 2. He who creates and regulates. 3. 3. He who measures and guides. 4. 4. He who produces the pasture. 5. And then turns it into light debris.
5. 6. We will make you read, so do not forget. 6. 7. Read only what God wills. 7. He knows what is declared, and what is hidden. 8. 8. We will help you onto the easy path.
9. 9. So remind, if reminding helps. 10. 10. The reverent will remember God and his declarations. 11. 11. Yet the wretched will avoid it, 12. he that shall enter the Gigantic Fire. 13. where he will neither die, nor live.
12. 14. Successful is he who purifies his essence. 15. And mentions the name of his Lord, and prays. 13. 16. And yet you prefer the present life. 14. 17. Although the Hereafter is better, and more lasting. 15. 18. This is in the former scriptures, 19. the scriptures of Abraham and Moses. (the books of the Mormons)
the Overshadowing Event (of the End of Days) CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 THE OVERSHADOWING EVENT 88: 1 - 88: 26 1. 1. Has there come to you the news of the overwhelming?
2. 2. Faces on that Day will be shamed, 3. laboring and exhausted, 4. roasting in a scorching fire. 3. 5. Given to drink from a fiery spring, 6. they will have no food except thorns 7. that neither nourishes, nor satisfies hunger.
4. 8. Faces on that Day will be joyful, 9. satisfied with their endeavor 10. in a lofty garden. 5. 11. In it you will hear no nonsense, 12. in it is a flowing spring, 6. 13. In it are raised beds, 14. and cups set in place. 7. 15. And cushions set in rows, 16. and carpets spread around.
8. 17. Do they not look at the camels—how they are created? 9. 18. And at the sky—how it is raised? 10. 19. And at the mountains—how they are installed? 11. 20. And at the earth—how it is spread out?
12. 21. So remind them. 13. You are only a reminder, 22. you have little control over them.
14. 23. Yet whomsoever turns away and disbelieves, 24. God will punish him with the greatest punishment. 15. 25. To Us is their return, 26. then upon Us rests their reckoning.
the Dawn CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-20 THE DAWN 89: 1 - 89: 30 1. 1. By the daybreak, 2. And ten nights, 3. And the even and the odd, 4. And the night as it recedes. 2. 5. Is there in this an oath for a rational person?
3. 6. Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Aad? 4. 7. and Erum of the pillars, 8. the likes of them that were never created in the land. 5. 9. And Thamood—those who carved the rocks in the valley. 6. 10. And Pharaoh of the Staves, 11. them that committed excesses in the lands, 12. and spread much corruption therein. 7. 13. So your Lord poured down upon them a scourge of punishment. 8. 14. Your Lord is on the lookout.
9. 15. As for man, whenever his Lord tests him, and honors him, and prospers him, he says, “My Lord has honored me. ” 10. 16. Yet whenever He tests him, and restricts his livelihood for him, he says, “My Lord has insulted me. ” 11. 17. Not at all.
12. Yet you do not honor the orphan. 18. And you do not urge the feeding of the poor. 13. 19. And you devour inheritance with all greed, 20. and you love wealth with immense love.
14. 21. No—when the earth is leveled, pounded, and crushed, 22. and your Lord comes, with the angels, row after row, 15. 23. And on that Day, Hell is brought forward, 16. on that Day, man will remember, yet how will remembrance avail him?
17. 24. He will say, “If only I had forwarded for my life. ”
18. 25. On that Day, none will punish as He punishes, 26. and none will shackle as He shackles. 19. 27. Yet as for you, O tranquil soul, 28. return to your Lord, pleased and accepted. 20. 29. Enter among My servants, 30. enter My Paradise.
the Land [where we reside] CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-15 concerning the cave of Plato THE LAND 90: 1 - 90: 20 1. 1. I swear by this land, 2. and you are a resident of this land. 2. 3. And by a father and what he fathered, 4. We created man in distress.
3. 5. Does he think that no one has power over him? 4. 6. He says, “I have used up so much money. ” 5. 7. Does he think that no one sees him? 6. 8. Did We not give him two eyes? 7. 9. And a tongue, and two lips? 8. 10. And We showed him the two ways? 9. 11. Yet he did not brave the climb up the ladder.
10. 12. And what will explain to you what the climbup the ladder is? 11. 13. The freeing of a slave, 14. Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 12. 15. of an orphan near of kin, 16. or a destitute in the dust. 13. 17. Then he becomes of those who believe, and that advise one another to patience, and advise one another to kindness.
14. 18. These are the people of happiness. 15. 19. Yet as for those who defy Our revelations—these are the people of misery. 20. upon them is a padlocked Fire.
the Sun CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-10 THE SUN 91: 1 - 91: 15 1. 1. By the sun and its radiance, 2. and the moon as it follows it, 2. 3. And the day as it reveals it, 4. and the night as it conceals it. 3. 5. And the sky and He who built it, 6. and the earth and He who spread it, 4. 7. And the soul and He who proportioned it, 8. and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness, 5. 9. Successful is he who purifies it. (the soul, etc) 6. 10. Failing is he who corrupts it.
7. 11. The people of Thamood denied God in its pride, 12. when it followed its most wicked citizens. 8. 13. The messenger of God said to them, “This is the she-camel of God, so let her drink. ” 9. 14. Yet they called him a liar, and hamstrung her. (with burdens, etc) 10. So their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled it, 15. and He does not fear its sequel.
the Night CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-10 THE NIGHT 92: 1 - 92: 21 1. 1. By the night as it covers, 2. and the day as it reveals, 3. and He who created the male and the female, 2. 4. Your endeavors are indeed diverse.
3. 5. As for him who gives and is righteous, 6. and confirms goodness, 7. We will ease his way towards ease. 4. 8. Yet as for him who is stingy and complacent, 9. and denies goodness, 10. We will ease his way towards difficulty. 5. 11. And his money will not save him when he falls.
6. 12. It is upon Us to guide, 13. and to Us belong the Last and the First.
7. 14. I have warned you of a fierce blaze. 8. 15. Nobody will burn in it except the very wicked, 16. He that is wicked and is warned, and yet denies it and turns away. 9. 17. Yet the devout will avoid it, 18. he who gives his money to become pure, 19. seeking no favor in return. 10. 20. Only seeking the acceptance of his Lord, the Most High, 21. and he will be satisfied.
the Light of the Morning CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-5 THE LIGHT OF THE MORNING 93: 1 - 93: 11 1. 1. By the morning light, 2. and the night as it settles, 3. your Lord did not abandon you, nor did He forget. 2. 4. The Hereafter is better for you than the First days of humanity. 3. 5. And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.
4. 6. Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you? 7. And found you wandering, and guided you? 8. And found you in need, and enriched you? 5. 9. Therefore, do not mistreat the orphan 10. nor rebuff the seeker, 11. yet proclaim the blessings of your Lord, God.
the Comfort CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-5 THE COMFORT 94: 1 - 94: 8 1. 1. Did We not soothe your heart? 2. and lift from you your burden, 3. that weighed down your back? 2. 4. And raised for you your reputation? 3. 5. With hardship comes ease. 6. With hardship comes ease. 4. 7. When your work is done, turn to devotion. 5. 8. And to your Lord turn for everything.

Is God not the Wisest of the wise?

5. 6. In fact, man oversteps all bounds, 7. when he considers his actions to be exempt, 6. 8. yet to your Lord God is the return of all spirits.
7. 9. Have you seen him who prevents (hinders, or blocks) 10. a servant of God when he or her prays? 8. 11. Do you think he is upon guidance, 12. or advocates righteousness in doing so?
9. 13. Do you see how he disbelieved and turned away? 10. 14. Does he not know that God sees? 11. 15. No, he does not.
12. If he does not desist from halting the prayerful believers, We will drag him by the forelock, 16. a deceitful, sinful forelock.
13. 17. Let him call on his gang. 14. 18. We will call the Guards.
15. 19. No, do not obey him; yet kneel down, and come near.
the Night of Decree CHAPTER ONE Divisions 1-5 THE NIGHT OF DECREE 97: 1 - 97: 5 1. 1. We sent it (the Quran) down on the Night of Decree.
