8. Outline Business Case (formulated by Project Executive; captured by PM)

Reasons why the project is needed and the business option selected (all options to be listed). This will later be developed into a detailed Business Case during the next stage in Initiating Project process.

 

9. Project Product Description

It is top level output of the Project – e. g. overall solution/software/service/building etc., which at a later analysis stage split into components it consists of. (Example: Project Product is –“summer cottage consisting of four rooms”; component products: groundworks, walls, roof etc. each having detailed description).

Description shall include (as much as possible at this point of time):

  • Product composition;
  • Quality expectations;
  • Acceptance Criteria,
  • Acceptance Responsibilities

Derives from discussions with the Senior User, Senior Supplier and business experts (to the extent known at this point).

 

10. Project Approach

Define the choice of the solution that will be used within the project to deliver the business option selected from the Business Case, taking into consideration the operational environment into which the solution must fit)

 

Project Approach (Choose from below)

Bespoke or off-the-shelf; contracted out or developed in-house; designed from new or a modified existing product;

 

11. “Lessons learned” researched.

List lessons from other projects and/or other sources that might be applicable to current project.

 

12. Project Management Team Structure

As a minimum, you need to document who is on the Project Board and who the Project Manager is. Organization chart view format is preferable.
