It was 9p.m. Shirley Richards was driving home from a e.g. hard day at work. The weather was awful. It had been snowing 1) ………. All day and the snow continued to fall. The wind was 2) ………. as she drove along the empty roads. She could hardly see anything, so she lost her sense of direction and took a wrong turning. She kept going, but she finally 3)………. that she was lost. Suddenly her car stopped. She turned the key again and again feeling more and more 4)……….because her car wouldn’t start. All she could see was thick, white snow and she wasn’t even sure where she was. She picked up her mobile phone and called her husband, Tony, to tell him she was stuck. Tony called the police and explained the situation. They sent out a search party, but seven hours later, they had found nothing. They were very 5)……….. about her. They decided that no more could be done on land, so a plane was sent out. Meanwhile, Shirley was 6)……….. with cold. She had wrapped herself in an old car blanket and was trying to keep moving in order to stay awake. She knew that if she fell asleep, she would probably never wake up.
