My native city is Arkhangelsk/ I live in Arkhangelsk. It is situated on the Northern Dvina River, not far from the White Sea.

Arkhangelsk is an administrative centre of the Arkhangelsk Region.

Arkhangelsk was founded in 1584 [fifteen eighty-four].

Arkhangelsk was the first and only seaport of Russia until 1703 (seventeen [əu] three).

Arkhangelsk is called the Gate to the Arctic. Over two hundred polar research expeditions set their sail from here.

Arkhangelsk is a year-round seaport.

The city is a centre for the timber and fishing industries.

Cultural life in Arkhangelsk is very rich. There are three theatres in the city, a huge research library and a lot of museums. The Northern Russian Folk Choir is well known in Russia and abroad. A lot of festivals and sport competitions traditionally take place in Arkhangelsk.

My native city is Arkhangelsk/ I live in Arkhangelsk.

It is situated on the Northern Dvina River, not far from the White Sea. In the 12th century, the Novgorodians established the Archangel Michael Monastery in the estuary of the Northern Dvina River. The town of Arkhangelsk was founded in 1584 by the order of the Tsar Ivan the Terrible. In the age of Peter the Great Arkhangelsk became a cradle of the Russian naval and merchant shipping. Peter I founded a shipyard in Solombala in 1693.

Arkhangelsk was the first and only seaport of Russia until 1703(when Saint Petersburg was founded). Arkhangelsk declined in the 18th century as the Baltic trade became more important. Arkhangelsk's economy revived at the end of the 19th century when a railway to Moscow was completed and timber became a major export.
