Olympic Games are the greatest international sports games in the world. The Olympic Games have an interesting and long history. The competitions of athletics took place in Greece. They were only for men. It was twenty eight centuriesago in 776 B.C. The most important competitions in Olympia were named the Olympic Games. They were held every four years (through 1417 days).

The Olympic Games included events in racing, boxing, jumping, horse racing . The Olympic Games became the symbol of peace and friendship. .In 1896 year we again heard about the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee was set up and began to work in 1896 year. There were competitions in many kinds of sports: jumping and running, boxing and swimming, athletics, football, basket-ball and others. Summer and Winter Games are held separately.

Winter Olympic Games first took place in 1924 year. There were competitions in skiing, skating, ice-hockey and etc. Since 1936 year the opening ceremony is celebrated by lighting a flame, which called “The Olympic Flame”. Many people want the Olympic Games to be held in their cities, but it depends on the decision of the International Olympic Committee. The Olympic Games were held in the cities of Europe, America, Asia and Australia. Our country joined the Olympic Movement in 1952 year.

The 22^nd Summer Olympic Games were held in Moscow in 1980 year. It was for the first time that the Olympic Games were held in our country. Our Russian sportsmen won 80 gold, 69 silver and 46 bronze medals during these Games. The 22^nd Olympic Games were the holiday of health, peace and friendship. The 30th Summer Olympic Games were held in London on July of 2012 year. Our sportsmen took the 3^rd place, after America, Great Britain . It was a very difficult struggle for medals. Our Russian sportsmen won 82 medals: 24 gold, 25 silver and 33 bronze.
