Prestressed Concrete

There are two kinds of reinforced concrete: with ordinary
reinforcement and concrete with prestressed reinforcement. Prestressed
concrete is not a new material. Its successful use has been developed
rapidly during the last two decades. .

In prestressed concrete steel is used as a means of producing a suitable compressive stress in the concrete. Prestressed concrete is not subject to cracking. It enables lighter construction than ordinary reinforced work. Less steel is required than in ordinary reinforced concrete.

Prestressed concrete is used for beams, columns, pipes, cylindrical
water-towers, etc.
