It's impossible to imagine modern life without computers and internet. Internet has become the main source of information and communication. Computers help us to study and to understand the world around us better.

Nearly everything we do in the modern world is helped or controlled by computers. Computers are widely used by children and grown ups for the simple reason, that they are far more efficient than human beings. They have much better memories and they can store a lot of information. They can do many of the things we do, but faster and better. They can control machines, compose music, write poetry and even play chess.

Many people associate computers with the world of science and maths, but they are also a great help in history, literature and so on. Now we see computers in the shops, libraries, classrooms, offices of all kinds. People read computer books, exchange scientific information, design clothes, translate articles in different foreign languages, settle up their problems with the help of computers. Our mobile telephones are computers as well

But there is a great problem with computers addiction. Lots children and teenagers forget about their studies spending all the time playing computer games. Some of the games are rather aggressive and affect the mind of young people badly.

Internet has become the main source of information. It can give the user required information quickly and easily. But when student are making reports it's better to use encyclopedias and reference books, than to bush a button to get a report, made by somebody else, even without reading it.

3. Dramatize the situation. You and your friend are doing the project about the country of the language you study. Discuss what your report will be about and why it will be so and which of you will do it

- Hello! Why are you in a hurry?

  - Hello! Glad to see you. I'm really very busy. We are having a conference next months with the name " Cultural dialogue" and I want to prepare the project to this conference.

-  What is the topic of your project?

- Oh! I'm going to make a project on the topic " the peculiarities of the British way of life"

- Uhm! It's a very interesting and knowledgeable. Will you describe all four parts of the country?

- Certainly! In the beginning I'm going to describe all characteristic features, and in the second part I'm going to compare them.

-     I suppose you've got a lot of interesting facts about the British way of life.

-     Yes, the work is rather difficult but very interesting. I've found some interesting material about Scottish national food, such as short bread and haggis.

  - Scotland is an exciting country. It has a lot of traditions and its national culture is very reach,

isn't it?

  - It is. It has a lot of symbols which have a very special meaning. . If we study the pattern of the tartan we may learn a lot of facts about the history of Scottish clan.

  - And how will you illustrate you report? It is very important to present the project perfectly.

  - You are absolutely right! I've found a lot of pictures in the internet to illustrate your report and I'm making a short presentation to support the facts' I'm delivering.

  - I hope it'll be a real thrill.

  - I invite you to my presentation.

  - Thanks, and good luck.

Crop circles are large circular patterns which have been turning up mysteriously in cornfields all over southern England and in other parts of the world since the 1980s. -Many people believe that only visitors from outer space could have created such circles.

Pal Delgado is someone who investigates crop circles and writes about them. In his book " Circular evidence" he suggested that the circles were created by visitors from outer space. " However Delgado became less enthusiastic about crop circles after he had talked to a newspaper reporter called Graham Brough.

Brough put Delgado in touch with two artists who claimed that they made crop circles. They told Delgado that for many years they had been going around southern England creating new circles each year. Over the years hundreds of circles appeared in Britain and other countries. So the artists have been deceiving fans of crops for a long time. Delgato, too, had been taken in completely. " If everything you say is true, I'll look a fool".

Flying saucers and 'extra-terrestrials' which had gone out of fashion for a time, were given new life by the circles. Flying saucers fans believed that the circles marked the place where UFOs landed. Many people around the world became 'experts' in explaining what had caused the circles.

The artists told Delgado that they decided to make the first crop circle in 1978. They had read a newspaper of flying saucers and had also heard about Australian farmers creating crop circles with the tractors some years earlier. So they decided to flatten some com to make it look as if UFO had landed. At first, nobody noticed their work, but then in 1981 one of their circles was spotted and the press said it was made by extra-terrestrials. " We found it so funny", said one of the artists, " We had to stop the car because he was laughing so much that he couldn't drive".

Extra-terrestrials - инопланетяне

To take in - дурачить
