Vilarbó is a natural area in the municipality of As Pontes, located in the tail of the reservoir of A Ribeira, in the river Eume. The Vilarbo area is close to the Natural Park of As Fragas do Eume and shares with it its richness in terms of tangible and intangible heritage, flora and fauna. In Vilarbó there are plentiful of chestnut trees, oaks, birches, hazels... and the typical vegetation of riversides like alders and willows. In addition it is a site with various fauna: different species of mammals such as marten, wild boar or deer; and also birds, both birds of prey as the goshawk or the owl, and of other kinds such as magpies or wagtails... and even aquatic birds like ducks. There is a large number of reptiles and amphibians, such as the long-tailed salamander, an amphibian that is endemic to Galicia and the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.
