· William Shakespeare was a famous English poet and playwright.

· He was born in Stratford-on-Avon on April 23, 1564.

· His father was a prosperous businessman who was busy with gloves and farm products.

· William was a respected figure in Stratford Grammar school where he studied reading, writing and Latin.

· At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway who was eight years older than him.

· The couple had three children.

· In 1585 Shakespeare left for London where he started his literary career.

· First he worked as a servant at the theatre company.

· Later he became an actor and played not first-rate parts.

· It helped him to write his own plays.
