Activity 1 Song: Telephone, by James Blunt This living song by James Blunt is narrated by a telephone, which describes the relationship his/her owner has with it as a love relationship. I think this song shows the relationship most of our students have with their mobile phones.
Aim Apart from improving students’ language skills this activity aims at making them aware of the dependent they are on the telephone. They should be able to see that to be dependent on something is not healthy and it makes us weaker.
Procedure · Listen to the song and do a fill-in exercise. · Read the song aloud to check they understant the general meaning of the lyrics. · Work vocabulary in the lyrics related to: - Body: chest, hand, mouth, anatomy, shoulder... - Phones: to charge it up, to turn it on, to keep it on, to vibrate, to bust... - Words related to feelings: jealous, inseparable, crazy, to freak out... - Expressions about relationships: to be in love, to rely on, to break up, to keep secrets · Answer a list of questions related to the use they make of their telephone. · Share the answers with the teacher and the rest of the group aloud. · Debate: think about the prons and cons of overusing telephones. Write ideas on the board. Finally, with such ideas they can write an essay as homework at home.
