3 type: it-cleft

В таких предложениях смысловое ударение падает на ту часть, где стоит слово it. В отличие от предложений типа wh-cleft и all-cleft, где связкой служит глагол be, в данной конструкции мы используем слова-связки that/who.

Pay attention: that is multipurpose, while who refers only to humans. The emphasis will always fall on the part of the sentence that precedes the word-link.

It was Sarah that/who sent him keys to her flat. – Это была именно Сара, кто послал ему ключи от квартиры.

It was your mother that/who I met in the shopping mall. – Это именно твою маму я встретил в торговом центре.

As you may have already noticed, even if it is a plural noun, you should use it and the verb form be the singular: It’s his friends that I can’t stand.

After it is we use the pronoun in the object case He’s always interrupting. → It’s him that/who is always interrupting. – Именно он всегда перебивает.

In addition, there is a design it was not until / it was only when (until / only when), it allocates a time span and makes it more meaningful than the action itself.
