TEXT 13

carma-cakṣ e dekhe yaiche sū rya nirviś eṣ a

jñ ā na-mā rge laite nā re kṛ ṣ ṇ era viś eṣ a

 

… nirviś eṣ a—without variegatedness; … viś eṣ a—the variety.

 

As with the naked eye one cannot know the sun except as a glowing substance, merely by philosophical speculation one cannot understand Lord Kṛ ṣ ṇ a’s transcendental varieties.

 

A. -pr. -bh.: nirviś eṣ a the characteristics by which a certain object is known are called viś eṣ a, the absence of them is nirviś eṣ a.

 

 

TEXT 36

prā kṛ tā prā kṛ ta-sṛ ṣ ṭ ye yata jī va-rū pa

tā hā ra ye ā tmā tumi mū la-svarū pa

 

prā kṛ ta—material; aprā kṛ ta—and spiritual; sṛ ṣ ṭ ye—in the creations; …

 

 “All the living beings within the material and spiritual worlds are ultimately born of You, for You are the Supersoul of them all.

 

A. -pr. -bh.: The material creations, prā kṛ ta-sṛ ṣ ṭ i, are included in the illusory nature. “bhū mir ā po 'nalo vā yuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca ahaṅ kā ra itī yaṁ me bhinnā prakṛ tir aṣ ṭ adhā / apareyam” In this description from the Gī tā, both the subtle body formed by the mind, the intelligence and the false ego, and the form made of five gross elements beginning with the earth are mā yika, or material. The pure soul and the spiritual world are transcendental. You are the ā tmā , the Supersoul, or mū la-svarū pa, the ultimate source of all jī vas, the living entities, both conditioned and pure, in these two worlds, material and transcendental.

 

 

TEXT 46

 “You oversee the wanderings of all living beings. For this reason also, You are the primeval Lord Nā rā yaṇ a. ”

 

A. -pr. -bh.: By three arguments Lord Brahmā settled that Ś rī Kṛ ṣ ṇ a is mū la nā rā yaṇ a, the original Nā rā yaṇ a: (1) due to His being the final cause or shelter of all jī vas; (2) due to His being the original provider of energy to the master of all jī vas, Kā raṇ ā dhiś ā yī Puruṣ a; to the aggregate of all jī vas, or the Hiraṇ yagarbha-ā tmā, Garbhodaś ā yī Puruṣ a; and to the indwelling Supersoul of all the individual jī vas, Kṣ ī rodaś ā yī Puruṣ a, as well as to all the incarnations coming through Them; (3) due to His being the witness of all activities in the three phases of time of all jī vas, both conditioned and pure, in the unlimited material universes and Vaikuṇ ṭ ha.

 

 

TEXT 47

kṛ ṣ ṇ a kahena——brahmā, tomā ra nā bujhi vacana

jī va-hṛ di, jale vaise sei nā rā yaṇ a

 

… jī va—of the living entity; hṛ di—in the heart; jale—in the water;

 

Kṛ ṣ ṇ a said, “Brahmā, I cannot understand what you are saying. Lord Nā rā yaṇ a is He who sits in the hearts of all living beings and lies down in the waters of the Kā raṇ a Ocean. ”

 

A. -pr. -bh.: jī va hṛ di inside the individual and aggregate living entity; jale in theKā raṇ abdhi, Garbhodaka and Kṣ ī rodaka Oceans.

 

 

TEXT 54

 “Although these three features of the Lord deal directly with the material energy, none of Them are touched by it. They are all beyond illusion.

 

A. -pr. -bh.: All the individual and aggregate living entities, beginning with Hiraṇ yagarbha, are controlled by mā yā. Although the three Puruṣ as deal with the material energy, They are beyond mā yā. They are its controllers, mā yā dhī ś a-tattva. They glance at mā yā, but never come in direct contact with it.  

 

 

TEXT 96

 “One who knows the real feature of Ś rī Kṛ ṣ ṇ a and His three different energies cannot remain ignorant about Him.

 

A. -pr. -bh.: The three energies are cic-chakti, jī va-ś akti and mā yā -ś akti.

 

 

TEXT 107

ī ś varaḥ paramaḥ kṛ ṣ ṇ aḥ sac-cid-ā nanda-vigrahaḥ

anā dir ā dir govindaḥ sarva-kā raṇ a-kā raṇ am

 

“‘Kṛ ṣ ṇ a, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes. ’

Anubh.: kṛ ṣ ṇ aḥ (vrajendra-nandanaḥ; the son of the king of Vraja) paramaḥ ī ś varah (baladeva-nā rā yaṇ a-vā sudeva-saṅ karṣ aṇ a-pradyumnā niruddha kā raṇ a-garbha-kṣ ī rarṇ ava-ś ā yī -paramā tma-puruṣ ā vatā ra matsya-kū rma-varā ha rā ma-nṛ siṁ hā di-naimittikā vatā ra brahma-ś ivā di guṇ ā vatā ra nirviś eṣ a-brahma mahendrā di-vibhū ty avatā rā ṇ ā ṁ sarveṣ ā ṁ patiḥ; the master of Baladeva, Nā rā yaṇ a, Vā sudeva, Saṅ karṣ aṇ a, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, of the Puruṣ as lying on the Kā raṇ a, Garbhodaka and Kṣ ī rodaka Oceans, of the occasional incarnations like Matsya, Kū rma, Varā ha, Rā ma, or Nṛ siṁ ha, of the qualitative incarnations like Brahmā and Ś iva, of the undifferentiated Brahman, and of all the empowered incarnations like Indra, the king of heaven) sat-cit-ā nanda-vigrahaḥ (sandhinī -samvid-hlā dinī -ś akti-traya-samanvitaḥ; endowed with the three energies of eternal existence, knowledge and bliss) anā diḥ (ā di-rahitaḥ, without any beginnig, as stated in the verse ‘aham evā sam evā gre’) ā diḥ (sarveṣ ā ṁ mū la-rū paḥ; the root form of all) sarva-kā raṇ a-kā raṇ am (the root cause of all causes) govindaḥ.

 

 

TEXT 117

A sincere student should not neglect the discussion of such conclusions, considering them controversial, for such discussions strengthen the mind. Thus one’s mind becomes attached to Ś rī Kṛ ṣ ṇ a.

 

A. -pr. -bh.: This sat-siddhā nta, spiritual conclusion, is the root of pure devotion.

 

Purp.: … When Brahmā described the situation of pure devotees freed from the culture of empiric philosophy and fruitive actions, he recommended the process of hearing from persons who are on the path of devotion…

 

Anubh.: … At that time Brahmā said, “san-mukharitā ṁ bhavadī ya-vā rtā m

sthā ne sthitā ḥ ś ruti-gatā ṁ ” [Bhā g. 10. 14. 3] …

Purp.: …Ś rī la Rū pa Gosvā mī, in his Upadeś ā mṛ ta (3), advises that to make rapid advancement in the cult of devotional service one should be very active and should persevere in executing the duties specified in the revealed scriptures and confirmed by the spiritual master. Accepting the path of liberated souls and the association of pure devotees enriches such activities…

 

Anubh.: Rejecting laziness, Ś rī Rū pa Gosvā mī pā da also said,

 

utsā hā n niś cayā d dhairyā t tat-tat-karma-pravartanā t

saṅ ga-tyā gā t sato vṛ tteḥ ṣ aḍ bhir bhaktiḥ prasidhyati

 

 

TEXT 118

By such conclusive studies I know the glories of Lord Caitanya. Only by knowing these glories can one become strong and fixed in attachment to Him.

 

Anubh.: In the Pañ carā tra it is stated:

mā hā tmya-jñ ā na-yuktas tu su-dṛ ḍ haṁ sarvato ’dhikaḥ

sneho bhaktir iti proktas tayā sā rṣ ṭ y ā di nā nyathā

mahimā -jñ ā na-yuktaḥ syā d vidhi-mā rgā nusā riṇ ā m

rā gā nugā ś ritā nā n tu prā yaś aḥ kaivalo bhavet
