Dear Trainees of the NSTU Translation Program!

Welcome to participate in Film Dubbing Competition!

The contest is designed to define the most extraordinary translation and dubbing works. The works will represent 2-3 minutes long excerpts of Soviet classical comedy films.

The results of the contest will be presented at the event which will be held on October 15th, 2019 in Conference Hall, Building I, at 5. 30 pm.

What’s dubbing?

· Dubbing, also known as Language Replacement, substitutes a target language with each person appearing on screen. Dubbing services are recorded by voice actors who mimic the expression, tone and lip sync of the actor on screen but in a different language.

Who can participate?

· groups of Translation program trainees 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd years of study.

However, Undergraduates and Master students of NSTU and other universities of the city are welcome as well!

What films are eligible to enter the competition?

· comedy films which are considered masterpieces of Soviet film directors like Leonid Gayday, Eldar Ryazanov, etc.

How long should the video (excerpt) be?

· no longer than 2-3 minutes.

How to present YOUR masterpiece?

· submit your dubbed videos to the Organizing Committee before October 14^th,2019. All the contestants’ videos will be assessed by our professional jury and will be presented to the public at the event on October 15^th, 2019.

What are the criteria?

· Accuracy of translation

· Synchrony (respect for mouth articulation and body movements, and especially for the duration of the original actor’s utterances)

· Cohesion and coherence in the target text (coherence between what is heard and what is seen)

· Performance and dramatization (dubbing actors are required to perform in such a way that it is not overacted or underacted)

· Authenticity of dialogs

· Fidelity to the source text (when the viewer expects to see the same film that the audience saw in the source language; in other words, that the true story be told in terms of content, and on most occasions, of form, function and effect).

Please mind that your videos should have subtitles in Russian (! ) to easier follow the results of your translation efforts!
