4. Program



 

TSEKH-2021 - 2nd International Choral Workshop/Eastern European Forum at the Republic of Moldova (hereinafter, the Forum) will be held online since June 26th through July2nd, 2021.

The Forum will include the following events:

Lecture courses, master and practical classes for young composers, performers and musicologists on:

– music composing,

– basis,

– musical critique and journalism,

– original training course on choral writing,

– history of Byzantine and Eastern European choral tradition; history of Byzantine Orthodox tradition,

– original training course on culture studies and concept studies of global musical heritage;

– presentation of national cultures and folklore of Eastern European nations (Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. );

– presentation of music composing schools and meetings with the composers/cultural professionals from Poland, Moldova, Romania, Russia;

– practical classes and communication with conductors;

– writing new choral scores, working with male choir as part of writing such scores.

 

1. Master classes, lectures and workshops by the leading composers and musicologists.

2. Presentation of latest original training courses by guest masters.

3. Preparation of the participant score for premiering in the 2021-2022 season.

 

The chosen composers and musicologists will be categorized into groups A and B with reference to their ages and professional profile.

 

Group A includes junior students of Russian, Moldavian and foreign tertiary level schools and/or students of music colleges.

 

Group B includes graduates, post-graduates and young members of professional Unions.

 

Groups A and B will have the different programs.

 

The participation of young composers will include:

– attendance of all group lectures;

– participation in their master's workshops and writing a new choral score;

– attendance of all master classes, lectures and workshops and presentation of their own scores;

– communication with the conductor of the performing choir.

Score:

The ultimate objective of each participating composer is to use the 7 days of the Forum and assistance from the masters and conductor to compose (finalize) a new score for mail choir a capella. The choir comprises 16 performers (tenors, basses with optional basso profondo). Therefore, each participating composer must provide either a score already begun or a distinct musical concept. The tentative scope of topics may include: mythology (use of folk material is permissible), religion (Orthodoxy), contemporary choral techniques, and mysterial concepts. The Review Committee will choose two works in each area.

The score may not be longer than 5-6 minutes. The entire progress will be staged as follows: the inception or completion of a score under the direct supervision by a master; completion of a score; finalization and filing of the score by July 20th, 2021. All scores will be reviewed by the Workshop's/Forum's Review Committee. Maximum 8 (eight) scores will be chosen for performance in the 2021-2022 season. The scores will be performed by the male choir of the Maria Bieș u National Opera and Ballet Theatre (Republic of Moldova) under the baton of Oleg Konstantinov, Chief of Choir, Honored Artist of the Republic of Moldova.

 

The participation of young musicologists will includeessays, articles, profile descriptions, and the analysis of the participating scores. Each composer will write a brief description of their composing method. This aims at having a vast variety of musicology papers to be further evaluated by the Musicology Department of the MolOt International Group's Board.

The musicology papers chosen by the Musicology Department of the MolOt International Group's Board will be published in periodicals in Russia and Eastern Europe.

 

 

Training will be delivered by the guest masters:

 

YaroslavSudzilovsky (Moscow) – composer, Creative Director of the International Composer Training Project “Tsekh” under the International Guild of Young Musicians “MolOt International Group”, head of the workshop programs under “MolOt International Group”, founder and President of the International Guild of Young Musicians “MolOt International Group” under the Russian Musical Union, member of the Board of the Russian Union of Composers and Russian Musical Union, Chairman of the Belarusian-Russian Association for Contemporary Music.

 

SnejanaPislari (Moldova) – composer, member of the Moldavian Union of Composers and Musicologists, lecturer at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts of Moldova, PhD (Art History and Science of Culture), member of the Board of the International Guild of Young Musicians “MolOt International Group” under the Russian Musical Union.

Irina Starikova (Moscow) PhD (Art History), researcher at the research Center for Church Music of Moscow State Conservatory, performer at " Asmathikon" ensemble.

 

Yuri Yevgrafov(Moscow) composer, choir conductor, musical activist. Member of the USSR (Russian) Union of Composers; member of the Board and Chairman of the Choral Music Commission at the Union of Moscow Composers; professor at the Department of Choral Conducting of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Honored Art Worker of Russia.

TarasBuyevsky ­ (Moscow) – composer, member of the Board of the Union of Moscow Composers, member of the Board of the Russian Union of Filmmakers, Vice-president of the Guild of Film Composers at the Russian Union of Filmmakers (2013-2017), member of the Russian Association of Electroacoustic Music and UNESCO International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (ICEM), winner of international competitions.

 

SergeyUVAROV (Moscow) – musicologist, journalist, music critic, Chairman of the Section of Musicology and Journalism at the International Guild of Young Musicians “MolOt International Group” under the Russian Musical Union, deputy head of the Department of Culture at the “Izvestia”, PhD (Musicology).

Oleg Konstantinov (Moldova) conductor, Chief of the Choir at the Maria Bieș u National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Honored Artist of the Republic of Moldova.

 

Special guests:

 

Jan Krutul(Poland) composer, conductor, Associate Professor at the Chopin University of Music (conducting), head of choir at the Centre for the Thought of John Paul II.

MiroslavaMetleaeva (Luchiancicova) (Moldova) – PhD (Philology), researcher at the Bogdan PetriceicuHasdeu Institute of Romanian Philology, writer, translator, journalist, member of the Russian and Moldavian Union of Writers, member of PEN International.

 

Dumitru Grosei (Moldova – Romania) – film director, founder president of the Association of Independent Filmmakers of Moldova ALTERNATIVE CINEMA, director of annual cinema event " Romanian Film Days in Chiș ină u", winner of international cinema prizes.

4) list of scores (composers)/publications (musicologists).

 

Young composers must also enclose a score in the. pdf format and audio/video records (as links) of 2-3 scores of different genres with various instrumentation/arrangement.

Maximum 12 composers and 7 musicologists will be qualified for this Forum. Those not qualified yet willing to participate may apply as non-credited applicants upon prior notice to the Promoters (application form - see Annex 2).

 

The non-credited applicants must e-mail their application forms by June 25th, 2021, inclusive (see Annex 2).

1) full-color scan of your international passport;

2) full-color scan of your academic credentials or memo from current school specifying your major;

3) reference letter by the Chairman of the regional MolOt (composers/musicologists; if MolOt does not operate in the applicant's region, the reference letter should be written by the applying organization);

4) your resume;

5) list of scores (composers)/publications (musicologists)/concert performance videos (performers).

 

Young composers must also enclose a score in the. pdf format and audio/video records (as links) of 2-3 scores of different genres with various instrumentation/arrangement.
