Asians. Arabians. Indians. The Results Of Our Poll

We all come from the childhood. This phrase is so often appears in the press that has long ceased to be a revelation. But how we can't repeat it? The all, that there is good into us, and all that is bad, for the most part comes from there, from the early years.

We studied to love and hate, we learned life and created his vision of her was in those happy ears. Also, where we took the ‘‘building blocks’’ for the our future beliefs and preferences? Of course from outward things, watch life of senior, looking at their parents and... TV!

We had not any interest for policy and something like this. We watched cartoons! This word was magical for us. The streets were empty and parents sighed of relief, and we looked at the screen, and fascinated were immersed in magical world of fairy tales, because for us it was real than the all surrounding life. And agree that a lot moral and ethical principles were formed in this moment: we empathized, laughed and were indignant when we looked at the colorful events, developing before our eyes.

One of the main suppliers of this magical world of fairy tales was a company Walt Disney.

The Walt Disney Company (TWDC), the world's leading entertainment industry, was founded by Walt Disney in 1923. Disney is among the ten most valuable brands in the world. TWDC is active in 172 countries and represents 1, 300 radio and TV stations, broadcasting in 53 languages. For today The Walt Disney Company is developing five lines of business: the studio, TV, computer video games, entertainment parks and consumer products.

But most of all known for its disneycartoons. I am confident that everyone here has ever seen their cartoons.

But even the magical world of fairy tales is imperfect and has black spots. in our presentation, we would like to talk about racism in the Disney's cartoons

First of all, we want to consider the use of specific points of racism in the cartoons.

To do this, we have identified five groups

Latin Americans

African Americans

Asians

Arabs

Indians

Latin Americans appear in a comic image and characterized in cartoons as stupid(Olover and company 1988) Tito is a Latino Chihuahua whose main role in the movie is humor. He is the center of many funny scenes, but some of his lines are supposed to be funny not because of what he says but because of how he says them. His Latino accent is over-dramatized and is supposed to be funny, which suggests that a Latino accent is not " normal" when it comes to New York City where the story takes place. Another way this film is being racist towards Latinos is shown merely by Tito’s actions. His job and sole purpose within the gang is to steal cars. Disney is basically saying that they believe that Latinos should be portrayed as troublemakers and delinquents that can not be trusted.

African-Americans are shown as second-class citizens

They are uneducated and need to serve the white people(видеоиздамбо)

Asians

The Siamese cats from the movie the Lady and the Tramp have a very distinct Asian stereotype look and feel to them. From their introduction, the two cats (Si & Am) are shown with slanted eyes, extremely emphasized to show there difference from the other characters. Their use of the English language is terrible and is directed towards obvious stereotypes of Asians as well. They are also portrayed as cats which some people say are often seen as malicious, conniving and horrible creatures that are always very mysterious and sneaky.

Arabians

The opening musical sequence from Aladdin which was released in 1992 had to be edited due to protest from Arab-American groups. The opening song said, " I come from a land from a far away place, where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but, hey, it's home! " Also some say that Aladdin is more westernized than what he should be. In a city full of Arabic men and women he is depicted as a midwestern-accented white male with blue eyes. You are able to tell the difference when Aladdin is shown standing next to a more ethnic looking Jafar, who just happened to be the villain in the story. Many people often use this example when trying to prove that minorities in Disney movies are depicted as the bad guys and how the main characters are often more " white" looking.

Indians

Children watching cartoons will think that all Indians are running around and screaming, ride horses, smoke a pipe, and all have a Iroquois on his head. they live in wigwams, always sitting in a pose with a serious look.

The Results Of Our Poll

We have conducted a poll on subject «Have you ever noticed any racism in Disney cartoons? ». We have interviewed 120 people aged from 20 to 30 years old. The majority of respondents more precisely 63, 3% answered that they have never noticed it. This is a sign showing that most of people is attracted by pleasant and enlightening moments in cartoons. No one of them sees the disadvantages. Nevertheless 15, 8 % of interviewed have remarked the racism display in cartoons. Even though this figure is relatively small we can claim that the racism itself is present. And we shouldn’t close our eyes on this fact, As those who had notices it in the childhood may now have a wrong idea of good and evil and that some people are worse than the others. As well the poll has shown that every fifths doesn’t care about racism in cartoons at all. This arises the problem of our generation’s indifferent moral state.
