1. The layout of a train station

3. On board

a. Types of trains & accommodation

i. passenger train: locomotive and carriages,

ii. through train (straight) / slow train (goes with all stops),

iii. longand short distance train, high-speed trains (Aero express train to the airport); can be day trains and night trains as well

iv. inter-city trains (X small stations). Can have coach cars as well as sleeping car.

v. local trains, serve all stations (" stoppers" )

vi. commuter trains, shorter distances, the city and its suburbs. Only sitting facilities

vii. Double deck high speed and sleeper trains.

viii. The class of travel, to be based on, budget and preferences, quieter and roomier, expensive, fewer seats, more space for luggage, a meal is included in the price of the ticket, Wi-Fi, TV;

ix. Day trains:

1. Coach car seating, seats on either side, in first-class usually two seats on one side of the aisle, a single seat on the other; in second-class there are usually two seats on the both sides of the aisle. a reclining seat, fold-down tray, an overhead reading light, room for baggage in overhead racks, two restrooms at one end of the car.

2. Compartment seating, The car is separated into enclosed cabins, open to a corridor along one side of the car, in first-class cabin– up to 6 passengers, second-class – of up to 8.

1. Sleepers: first-class 1-2 people, a second-class – up to 4 people, consists of 2 upper and 2 lower sleeping berths. Couples, families & travellers of the same sex share a sleeper. Amenities – a washbasinunder the table, closet, reading light. Provided with blankets and pillows. Offer single sex compartment.

2. Couchettes: open bunks in a compartment, pillow and blanket, up to 6, impossible to change clothes (no sex distinction), washrooms at the end of each car.

b. Baggage rules

i. Security check at the train station; to be scanned

ii. To study the limits to carry-on luggage

iii. Limits ensure that excess luggage does not block aisles

iv. to be limited to two pieces per passenger, not including purses or laptops.

v. Will be permitted on-board unless it exceeds 23 kg. РЖД – 36kg, first class – 50kg.

vi. If extra big – train attendant weigh it

vii. ski equipment, snowboards, golf clubs and bicycles

viii. transport a dog – money, to inform, passport, special ticket for a dog. If big – must buy all the seats in a compartment. Dog lead and muzzle.

ix. When crossing the country's border– luggage check. Check who you are, your passport. Usage of sniffer dogs to detect drugs (passing through all the cars)
