Vocational school in Austria⇐ ПредыдущаяСтр 19 из 19
As a small country Austria only sends the more advancedtalents to the Hamburger University campus in Munich. The initial talent development hadalways taken place locally.
Apprentices received vocational training in system catering andwere educated to be the restaurant managers of the future. Most of this three-year program me they would spend with company-relevant training, but for the theoretical componentthey would have to go to a general vocational school (Berufsschule) in a part ofAustria where the apprentice was placed. Where they can learn from cooks, waiters and people of other trades. But McDonald’s faced with a problem of providing more options for its apprentices so that’s why they made a decision to found the private vocational school in Austria which sets its own tailor-made program ( to offeringin-depth study of culture and ethics, language courses )
There were two main problems/ challengesin Austria to solve:
• the lack of qualified workforce in Austria • to instill an interest to young people in making learning a trade
It took totally three years of negotiations between local politicians and school authorities to come up to solution of the problem.
The benefits of Mcdonald’s private vocational school in Austria: Mostly is beneficial for the apprentices: • McDonald's Austria and its franchisees cover all costs and divide them equally => no costs for members • to support its staff and community members with obtaining admission to accredited two- and four-year schools McDonald’s provides a variety of scholarships for its students ( The Thurgood Marshall College Fund; Archways to Opportunity) • students can also apply some of PVS credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree at 1, 600US colleges and universities • the apprentices have an opportunity to complete the Maturaat the same time (trainings would take totally four years) • opportunity for advancement • after completion of the vocational training the graduates could work for other trades too For Austria: • is embedded within Austrian culture andits institutional environment • is compatible with the dual vocational training program overall
So it was the best solution to set a private vocational school to fulfill the demands of: • The global headquarters (developing internal talent/ potential) • Austrian politicy (quality vocational training) • potential apprentices (individual educational expectations)
