Drunken House - Poland

The Noah's Ache - Holland

It all began with a nightmare: in his sleep Johan Huibers saw the North Sea flooding the Netherlands. The next day he bought a book about Noah's Ark. So the idea was born to rebuild the biblical ship. That was in 1992. Almost 20 years later the project became reality. Huibers Arche lies on an abandoned quay on the Merwede River, 65 kilometres south of Amsterdam.

"Drunken House" - Poland

Like a crushed beer can - the "Drunken House" in Sopot, Poland, built in 2004, reminds us of Antonio Gaudí's style with its waveforms.

The ideal palace / France

The postman Ferdinand Cheval made his dream come true with the "Palais idéal". In decades of work, he collected stones and built his highly individual palace all by himself. Magazines from all over the world gave him role models.

The smallest house in the world / Germany

The inventor is the architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel. This house is only 1 m². In his opinion, it has the advantage of being very light and taking up very little space. It can therefore make life easier for many people. For a hiker it would certainly be very practical.

The upside-down house /Usedom

Germany's first upside-down house was inaugurated in 2008 in Trassenheide on the island of Usedom. The idea came from the two Polish entrepreneurs Klaudiusz Gołos and Sebastian Mikiciuk who turned an initial Stammtisch-Alberei into a real tourist attraction: The headlong house attracts visitors from all over the world to the Baltic Sea island. Particularly fascinating: the complete furnishings, which of course also stand upside down.

The Hobbit House / Great Britain

This Hobbit house cost less than 4000 Euros and was built in only 4 months.

Simon Dale was fed up with loan repayments and decided to take matters into his own hands. Together with his father-in-law, he grabbed tools and started building. In the woods of Wales, an environmentally friendly house was built within three months which could undoubtedly also stand in Tolkien's Middle-earth - embedded in the hilly landscape.
