„The One with all the Resolutions“

This episode starts with the New Year's Party of 1999 – the Millennium is near. The friends are doing the countdown and wishing each other 'Happy New Year'.

Soon all of them are beginning to make New Year's resolutions, therefore a good listening/watching task for learners would be to note who makes what kind of resolution.

Key:

Ross	No divorce(s); He is going to do one new thing every day.
Phoebe	Wants to pilot a commercial jet (Chandler's comment: First, she will need to find a lot of people whose resolution it is to plummet to death.)
Chandler	Tries to go a whole week without making fun of the others.
Joey	Wants to learn how to play the guitar. Let students explain Phoebe's teaching method!
Rachel	Should stop gossiping.
Monica	Intends to take more pictures of all of the friends together.

You can use this episode to talk about New Year's traditions in the US or other countries, perhaps compare it to customs in your students' home countries.

If you have pupils who can still remember this special change of the centuries, you may discuss all the fears that were in people's heads around that specific time (end of the world, computer crashes on a global scale etc.).

If you want to include a song in your movie lesson you might use 'Millennium' by Robbie Williams.

In case you want to deal with grammar, 'going-to-future' for plans/intentions would be the tense of your choice, of course.
