A Hole in the Fence. попадаться на удочку, входить в привычку (плохую) ⇐ ПредыдущаяСтр 6 из 6 A Hole in the Fence Ted lives with his father and mother. He is the only son for them. His parents are very sad because of his bad temper. The boy gets angry very often. His bad temper makes him fall for*angry words. Ted forgets what he says in anger, but all his friends don’t. They don’t speak to him any more. His mother and father tried many things to develop kindness in his character. Unfortunately, all their attempts failed. Finally, the boy’s father came up with an idea. One day, his father gave him a huge bag of nails. He asked his son to hammer one nail to the fence every time he became angry. The little boy found it amusing and agreed to do what his father said. The first day Ted hammered 30 nails to the fence. In the next few days the number of nails reduced to half because it was very difficult for a little boy to hammer the nails and he did his best to control his anger. Finally arrived the day when Ted did not hammer a nail to the fence. And it was followed by another one when Ted did not lose his temper. And then the boy told his father that it was several days that he did not hammer any nail and he did not lose his temper! Ted’s father pulled out a few nails out of the fence and asked the boy: “What do you see there?” – “A hole” was the answer. “The nails are the same as your bad temper and angry words and you hammered them on people. You can remove the nails but still see the holes in the fence. Use words for good!”
