Instructions for the teacher. Preparation Ø Print the board games on tick paper or a cardboard; laminate them if you want to use them many times. Ø Find tokens for each student. Ø Provide dice. Ø Divide the class into groups of 3 – 4 students each. Ø Give each group a board game and a die. Ø Give each student a token (or bean, coin, button, etc.).
The game Ø The players put their tokens on the “start” square. Ø The first student throws the die and moves his token ahead the corresponding number of squares. Ø The student says what he would do in the given situation. Ø Example: If I met a superhero I would become his apprentice. Ø The first student who takes a number that places his token on “home” or surpasses it is the winner.
Sample sentences 1. If I met a superhero, I would become his apprentice. 2. If my best friend moved to an other city, I would visit him. 3. If I saw a burglar enter my neighbor’s house, I’d call the police. 4. If I were invited to a party and didn’t want to go, I would give an excuse. 5. If I got a bad grade, I would study more. 6. If a black cat crossed my way, I would go back home. 7. If I was at the beach and it were raining, I would read a book or watch a DVD. 8. If I crashed my father’s car, I would hide from him. 9. If my brother told me a secret, I would tell my best friend. 10. If I found a lot of money, I would travel. 11. If my cat could speak, I’d have a long conversation with it. 12. If there were a rat in my room, I would call the exterminators. 13. If someone offered me food I found disgusting, I would throw it away discreetly. 14. If an alien spaceship invaded the Earth, I would be a volunteer to go with them. 15. If I were the President, I would care about people. 16. If my boyfriend was cheating on me, I would split up with him. 17. If I were a famous person, everybody would like me. 18. If cell phones and e-mails were forbidden, I wouldn’t hear from my friends very often. 19. If school didn’t exist any more, everybody would have to study alone. 20. If I were suddenly 10 years older, I would already be working. 21. If I missed my plane, I would rent a plane just for me. 22. If I had to move out, I would have to find an other home. 23. If I were invisible, I could get to know a lot of secrets. 24. If I spoke 6 languages, I could become an interpreter. 25. If my friend were arrested, I would testify for him. 26. If I lost a book, I would have to by an other one. 27. If I could suddenly fly, I wouldn’t need a plane ticket any more. 28. If I found a cave with a treasure, I would call some experts. 29. If I were an English teacher, I would teach only cool stuff. 30. If I found a time machine, I would go back to Ancient Egypt. 31. If I had a wish, I would wish to be always happy. 32. If I could speak to dead people, I would speak to Napoleon. Any sentence grammatically right should be considered, even if the content is absurd. More fantasy, the better.
