Narrator:Here are Neznaika and his friends: Gunka, a mu- sician Gusla, an artist Tyubik, a poet Tsvetik, a doctor Pilulkin, a professor Znaika, and mechanics Vintik and Shpuntik. They all live in Flower City. Let’s start now.
ACT 1 At the musician’s. People sing a song. Neznaika enters. Neznaika:I want to be a musician. Gusla:You must study to be a musician. Neznaika:Which one is the loudest? Gusla:This one.
Neznaika takes the tuba and goes around and makes loud noise. All Children(running to him and shouting):Stop it, enough!
Neznaika drops the tube and runs away. ACT 2 At the artist’s. Tyubik is painting something. Neznaika:I want to be an artist. Tyubik:You must study to be an artist. Neznaika:Give me the paints and brushes. Tyubik:OK, take it. Can you draw this jug? Neznaika:Of course, I can.
Tyubik goes away and Neznaika starts drawing. Gunka en- ters. Gunka:What are you doing? Neznaika:I can paint your portrait – sit here.
After a while he shows a picture. Gunka:Is that me? Neznaika:Of course, it is you. Gunka:No, I don’t like it – give it to me.
They start fighting. Gunka:I will come at night and take it.
Neznaika paints many pieces of paper and puts them on the wall. Neznaika:Everybody come here – I made your portraits.
Pilulkin comes and laughs at the portraits. Pilulkin:Who is it? Znaika? Ha-ha. And this? Gunka? Ha- ha. And this? Tyubik? Ha-ha. What is this? Neznaika:This is you. Pilulkin:I don’t have a thermometer for a nose. You are ill, I will give you some castor oil. Neznaika:Please don’t – take this portrait.
Other children come. Vintik and Shpuntik:Who is this with donkey’s ears? Znai- ka? Ha-ha. And this is like a mushroom. Tyubik. Ha- ha. And what are these kettles? Neznaika:This is your portrait. Vintik:Give us this or we won’t give you a ride in our car.
Neznaika gives them the portrait. Znaika:You are not an artist! Your pictures are terrible! Let’s rip them up!
Everybody takes the pictures from the wall and tears them.
ACT 3 At Tsvetik’s. Neznaika:I want to be a poet. Teach me. Tsvetik:Do you know what a rhyme is? When two words sound similar. For example, fish–dish, fox–box. Neznaika:It is very easy. I can do it. (Writes.) Neznaika:Listen, friends, I have poems for you. All the children:OK. Neznaika:Znaika went for a walk and hopped over the sheep. Znaika:I didn’t go for a walk and hop over the sheep! Neznaika:Toropyzhka was hungry and ate the cold iron. Toropyzhka:I didn’t eat any iron – this is a lie! Neznaika:Avoska has a very tasty bun under the pillow! Avoska:There is nothing under my pillow! Pilulkin:Stop it! That is not funny!
ACT 4 At Vintik and Shpuntik’s place. They are fixing a scooter. Neznaika:Can I ride this scooter? Shpuntik:You can’t ride. You have to learn how to ride. Vintik:It’s lunch time – let’s go. (They go away.) Neznaika takes the scooter, but very soon falls off it. Vintik and Shpuntik(running after him and shouting):Help! Help!
They bring Neznaika to doctor Pilulkin.
Pilulkin:Now you have splinters in your back – I have to take them. Neznaika:It hurts, I don’t want it!
Doctor turns away and Neznaika runs away. Narrator:And this is only the beginning of his adventures!
Everybody bows.
