॥ PAÑCAPADYĀNI ॥

Introduction: In 'Jalbhed' - Shree Vallabhacharyaji has described the different kinds of Kathakar - singers of God's Glory. In panch Padyani, he describes different kinds of Srotas - Listners, because unless the Listners is pure by heart and mentally prepared by love to hear the Katha, it does not help the man like deaf man. In this book - Panch Padyani - five stanzas - Acharya says there are four different kinds of listeners. There are three kinds of listener of Maryadamarg and one of Pustimarg - path of grace. The best among them are those with pure love without any selfish ends. The year of the composition of this work is unknown.

श ् र ी क ृ ष ् ण र स व ि क ् ष ि स ् त म ा न स ा र त ि व र ् ज ि त ा ः ।
अ न ि र ् व ृ त ा ल ो क व े द े त े म ु ख ् य ा ः श ् र व ण ो त ् स क ा ः ॥ १ ॥

ś rī kṛ ṣ ṇ arasavikṣ istamā nasā rativarjitā ḥ .
anirvṛ tā lokavede te mukhyā ḥ ś ravaṇ otsakā ḥ .. 1..

Those whose mind is engrossed in affectionate elegance of Shree Krushna and therefore those who are bereft of worldly fondness, and those who have no pleasure in worldly affairs or those relating to Vedas, they are the best listeners. This are followers of the path of grace - pustimarg. (1)

व ि क ् ल ि न ् न म न स ो य े त ु भ ग व त ् स ् म ृ त ि व ि ह ् व ल ा ः ।
अ र ् थ ै क न ि ष ् ठ ा स ् त े च ा प ि म ध ् य म ा ः श ् र व ण ो त ् स ु क ा ः ॥ २ ॥

viklinnamanaso ye tu bhagavatsmṛ tivihvalā ḥ .
arthaikaniṣ ṭ hā ste cā pi madhyamā ḥ ś ravaṇ otsukā ḥ .. 2..

Those who are tender hearted and who get overwhelmed with the memory of God Shree Krushna and who are enthusiastic for listening the Glory of God and who aim at only some Goal namely, deliverence or similar objective are also intermediate listeners. The three Listeners, hereafter describes are Maryadamargiya. (2)

न ि ः स न ् द ि ग ् ध ं क ृ ष ् ण त त ् त ् व ं स र ् व भ ा व े न य े व ि द ु ः ।
त े त ् व ा व े श ा त ् त ु व ि क ल ा न ि र ो ध ा द ् व ा न च ा न ् य थ ा ॥ ३ ॥

प ू र ् ण भ ा व े न प ू र ् ण ा र ् थ ा ः क द ा च ि न ् न त ु स र ् व द ा ।
अ न ् य ा स क ् त ा स ् त ु य े क े च ि द ध म ा ः प र ि क ी र ् त ि त ा ः ॥ ४ ॥

niḥ sandigdhaṃ kṛ ṣ ṇ atattvaṃ sarvabhā vena ye viduḥ .
te tvā veś ā ttu vikalā nirodhā dvā na cā nyathā .. 3..

pū rṇ abhā vena pū rṇ ā rthā ḥ kadā cinna tu sarvadā .
anyā saktā stu ye kecidadhamā ḥ parikī rtitā ḥ .. 4..

Those who know with all affectionate attachments and without any doubt the essential nature of Shree Krushna, and who get emotional while listening The glory of Shree Krushna due to Ardour or due to complete involvements but not otherwise, and those who once in a while, due to impluse, get bereft of worldly desire but not so always, and also some such people who are very much attached to worldy affairs are all those who are designated as the base listeners. अ न न ् य म न स ो म र ् त ् य ा उ त ् त म ा ः श ् र व ण ा द ि ष ु ।
द े श क ा ल द ् र व ् य क र ् त ृ म न ् त ् र क र ् म प ् र क ा र त ः ॥ ५ ॥

ananyamanaso martyā uttamā ḥ ś ravaṇ ā diṣ u.
deś akā ladravyakartṛ mantrakarmaprakā rataḥ .. 5..

For the reason of place, Time, Means, Doer, Mantra and deed, those man, who are totally engrossed in listening and other service of of god are the best. (5)

॥ इ त ि श ् र ी व ल ् ल भ ा च ा र ् य व ि र च ि त ा न ि प ञ ् च प द ् य ा न ि स म ा प ् त ा न ि ॥
.. iti ś rī vallabhā cā ryaviracitā ni pañ capadyā ni samā ptā ni.. (13)
