॥ AṂTAḤKARAṆA-PRABODHA ॥



 

Introduction: This work, in the form of soliloquy - a literary form, addressed to one self, was composed by Acharya Vallabh in V. S. 1587, on the Seventh day of the dark half of the Vaishakh month, i. e. exactly thirty nine day before he left for heavenly abode (AsurvyamohLila). So chronologically it is the last of the sixteen works, but literary it is placed Seventh. It is autobiographical in nature. As per the varnashram Dharm priscribed by Scriptures, he has decided to accept Sanyasashram. At the time of taking Sanyas, he gave sermans to his mother and wife, and others. He addressed to his soul. He was asked by God to return to him twice, but he could not abide by God's wishes. He asks himself the question " should I repent? " and answer it. There is no cause for repentance as the violation of HIS orders was also his will; and in any case, he affirms, " I am after all HIS accepted servant and none else". God should not be looked upon like a worldly master. He finally advises to dedicate everything and live a devoted life and get God's Bliss.

 

अ ं त ः क र ण म द ् व ा क ् य ं स ा व ध ा न त य ा श ृ ण ु ।
क ृ ष ् ण ा त ् प र ं न ा स ् त ि द ै व ं व स ् त ु त ो द ो ष व र ् ज ि त ं ॥ १ ॥

aṃ taḥ karaṇ a madvā kyaṃ sā vadhā natayā ś ṛ ṇ u.
kṛ ṣ ṇ ā tparaṃ nā sti daivaṃ vastuto doṣ avarjitaṃ .. 1..

Oh, Conscience! listen to me carefully. In fact, other than Krushna, there is no divinity devoid of all impurities. (1)

 

च ा ण ् ड ा ल ी च े द ् र ा ज प त ् न ि ज ा त ा र ा ज ् ञ ा च म ा न ि त ा ।
क द ा च ि द प म ा न े sप ि म ू ल त ः क ा क ् ष त ि र ् भ व े त ॥ २ ॥

cā ṇ ḍ ā lī cedrā japatni jā tā rā jñ ā ca mā nitā .
kadā cidapamā nespi mū lataḥ kā kṣ atirbhaveta.. 2..

If a low caste woman of Chandal Sect happens to be a queen and become a favourite of the king, where is the degradation from her original status, even in case she is insulted by the king? (2)

 

स म र ् प ण ा द ह ं प ू र ् व म ु त ् त म ः क ि ं स द ा स ् थ ि त ः ।
क ा म म ा ध म त ा भ ा व ् य ा प श ् च ा त ा प ो य त ो भ व े त ॥ ३ ॥

samarpaṇ ā dahaṃ pū rvamuttamaḥ kiṃ sadā sthitaḥ .
kā mamā dhamatā bhā vyā paś cā tā po yato bhaveta.. 3..

Before complete dedication, was I always the best? what to talk of my degradation that repentance might occur! (3)

 

स त ् य स ं क ल ् प त ो व ि ष ् ण ु र ् न ा न ् य थ ा त ु क र ि ष ् य त ि ।
आ ज ् ञ ै व क ा र ् य ा स त त ं स ् व ा म ि द ् र ो ह ो sन ् य थ ा भ व े त ॥ ४ ॥

स े व क स ् य त ु ध र ् म ो sय ं स ् व ा म ी स ् व स ् य क र ि ष ् य त ि ।

satyasaṃ kalpato viṣ ṇ urnā nyathā tu kariṣ yati.
ā jñ aiva kā ryā satataṃ svā midrohosnyathā bhaveta.. 4..

sevakasya tu dharmosyaṃ svā mī svasya kariṣ yati. 5(a).

As Vishnu Shree Krushna is true to his words. He will of course never do anything otherwise than promised bliss. His order should be obeyed for ever, disobeying his order is a crime. This is the primary duty of a servant. The master will do his duty. (4 1/2)

 

आ ज ् ञ ा प ू र ् व त ु य ा ज ा त ा ग ं ग ा स ा ग र स ं ग म े ॥ ५ ॥

य ा sप ि प श ् च ा न म ध ु व न े न क ृ त ं त द ् द ् द ् व य ं म य ा ।
द े ह द े श प र ि त ् य ा ग स ् त ृ त ी य ो ल ो क ग ो च र ः ॥ ६ ॥

प श ् च ा त ा प ः क थ ं त त ् र स े व क ो ह ं न च ा न ् य थ ा ।

ā jñ ā pū rva tu yā jā tā gaṃ gā sā gara saṃ game.. 5..

yā spi paś cā namadhuvane na kṛ taṃ tadddvayaṃ mayā .
dehadeś a parityā gastṛ tī yo loka gocaraḥ .. 6..

paś cā tā paḥ kathaṃ tatra sevakohaṃ na cā nyathā . 7(a)

God has given me first order at the confluence of Ganga and the Sea, and then at Madhuvana - relating to forsaking the body and the world respectively-both were not obeyed by me. The third order was for the renunciation of worldly life which was well known to people. (5) why should there be any repentance for not obeying the earlier two orders? After all I am his servant and none otherwise. (61/2)

 

ल ौ क ि क प ् र भ ु व त ् क ृ ष ् ण ो न द ् र ष ् ट व ् य ः क द ा च न ॥ ७ ॥

स र ् व स म र ् प ि त ं भ क ् त ् य ा क ृ त ा र ् थ ो sस ि स ु ख ी भ व ।

laukikaprabhuvatkṛ ṣ ṇ o na draṣ ṭ avyaḥ kadā cana.. 7..

sarva samarpitaṃ bhaktyā kṛ tā rthossi sukhī bhava. 8(a).

Shree Krushna should never be looked upon like a worldly master. Once offered everything to KRUSHNA with devotion, you have achieved all. Be happy. (7 1/2)

 

प ् र ौ ढ ा प ि द ु ह ि त ा य द ् व त ् ‌ स ् न े ह ा न ् न प ् र े ष ् य त े व र े ॥ ८ ॥

त थ ा द े ह े न क र ् त ् त व ् य ं व र स ् त ु ष ् य त ि न ा न ् य थ ा ।

prauḍ hā pi duhitā yadvat snehā nna preṣ yate vare.. 8(b)..

tathā dehena karttavyaṃ varastuṣ yati nā nyathā . 9(a).

Just as one's daughter even on attaining maturity is not sent to her husband out of affection for her, her husband is not satisfied. Similary if body is not used in the service of God, then God is not pleased. (81/2)

 

ल ो क व च ् च े त ् स ् थ ि र ् म े स ् य ा त ् ‌ क ि ं स ् य ा द ि त ि व ि च ा र ा य ॥ ९ ॥

अ श क ् य े ह र ि र े व ा स ् त ि म ो ह ं म ा ग ा ः क थ ञ ् च न ।

lokavaccetsthirme syā t kiṃ syā ditivicā rā ya.. 9..

aś akye harirevā sti mohaṃ mā gā ḥ kathañ cana. 10(a).

Please consider what would have happened if my condition was like anyone in the world? Even if it is not possible to serve God physically, One must not worry, because Hari alone is your refuse. So do not entertain any wrong notions in any form whatsoever. (9 1/2)

 

इ त ि श ् र ी क ृ ष ् ण द ा स ् य व ल ् ल भ स ् य ह ि त ं व च ः ।
च ि त ् त ं प ् र त ि य द ा क र ् ण ् य भ क ् त ो न ि श ् च ि ं त त ा ं व ् र ज े त ॥ १ ० ॥

itiś rī kṛ ṣ ṇ adā sya vallabhasya hitaṃ vacaḥ .
cittaṃ prati yadā karṇ ya bhakto niś ciṃ tatā ṃ vrajeta.. 10(bc)..

Those are the beneficial words of Vallabha, the servant of Shree Krushna, addressed to the conscience, hearing which a devotee should be free from all anxieties.

 

 

॥ इ त ि श ् र ी म द ् ‌ व ल ् ल भ ा च ा र ् य क ृ त ो अ ं त ः क र ण प ् र ब ो ध ः स म ् प ू र ् ण ः ॥

.. itiś rī madvallabhā cā ryakṛ toaṃ taḥ karaṇ aprabodhaḥ sampū rṇ aḥ .. (7)
