॥ YAMUNĀṢṬAKA ॥

Introduction: First of the sixteen works popularly known as " Shodash Granth aha" 'Yamunastakam' was composed by Shree Vallabhacharyji in V. S. 1549 on the third day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Shravan. Mahaprabhuji was in Vrijbhumi, he was not able to decide between Govind Ghat and Thakurani Ghat on the banks of Yamunaji. Then Shree Yamunaji appeared before him and identified the Ghats. Mahaprabhuji there and then compossed this beautiful hyms in the praise of Yamuna Maharani. Though it is called Astak - a hyms of Eight verses, it has actually nine verses. In the ninth verse, Shree Mahaprabhuji describes the fruits of the regular daily recitation of this verses. It is also called the auspicious inauguration of the 'Shodash Granth aha'. SHREE YAMUNAJEE, the fourth beloved of Shree KRUSHNA is a symbol of selfless devotion for Shree KRUSHNA and whose favours enable a soul to be fit for entry into the The Path Of Grace. SHE purifies all souls by her flowing waters of love for Shree KRUSHNA and removes all obstacles.

namā mi yamunā mahaṃ sakala siddhi hetuṃ mudā
murā ri pada paṃ kaja sfuradamanda reṇ utkaṭ ā ma.
taṭ astha nava kā nana prakaṭ amoda puṣ pā mbunā
surā surasupū jita smarapituḥ ś riyaṃ bibhratī ma.. 1..

With joy, I bow down to YAMUNA, who is the prime cause of all accomplishment, and who contains in abundance dust particles emenating from the lotus feet of Shree KRUSHNA, and who is with sweetsmelling water containing joyful flawers from overgreen gardens on the banks and who is solemnly worshipped by both Gods and demons and who has the spledour of SHREE KRUSHNA. kalinda giri mastake patadamandapū rojjvalā
vilā sagamanollasatprakaṭ agaṇ ḍ ś ailonntā .
saghoṣ agati danturā samadhirū ḍ hadolottamā
mukundarativarddhinī jayati padmabandhoḥ sutā .. 2..

YAMUNA The daughter of the Sun, who looks so crystal white with fall of splashing floods of water on the mount Kalinda, who appears so beautiful with her up and down gaity on the cheek like visible rocks, who follows zig-zag route with noisy flow of water, who looks like one well seated on an exquisite swing and who enhances devotion for the Lotus feet of SHREE KRUSHNA, BE VICTORIOUS (2)

न ि त न ् ब त ट स ु न ् द र ी ं न म त क ृ ष ् ण ् त ु र ् य प ् र ि य ा म ॥ ३ ॥

bhuvaṃ bhuvanapā vanī madhigatā manekasvanaiḥ
priyā bhiriva sevitā ṃ ś ukamayū rahaṃ sā dibhiḥ .
taraṃ gabhujakaṃ kaṇ a prakaṭ amuktikā vā kukā -
nitanbataṭ asundarī ṃ namata kṛ ṣ ṇ turyapriyā ma.. 3..

You bow down to YAMUNA the fourth beloved of Shree KRUSHNA, Who sanctifies the earth by coming noisily on earth and attended upon by parrots, peacocks, swans etc., as if served by her own loving maids and who displays pearl-like sand particlas on her bangles in the form of waves and who looks very beautiful with her hips in the form of two banks. घ न ा घ न न ि भ े स द ा ध ् र ु व प र ा श र ा भ ी ष ् ट द े ।

क ृ प ा ज ल ध ि स ं श ् र ि त े म म म न ः स ु ख ं भ ा व य ॥ ४ ॥

anantaguṇ a bhū ṣ ite ś ivaviraṃ cidevastute
ghanā ghananibhe sadā dhruvaparā ś arā bhī ṣ ṭ ade.
viś uddha mathurā taṭ e sakalagopagopī vṛ te
kṛ pā jaladhisaṃ ś rite mama manaḥ sukhaṃ bhā vaya.. 4..

Oh Yamuna! Adorned with unending virtues, worshipped by Shiva, Brahma, and other GODS, as splendid as Waterfilled clouds, who fulfils the desire of DHRUVA and PARASHAR, on whose banks Stands the pious MATHURA, who is encircled by cow herd boys and maids, one who is under the shelter of the Ocean of Compassion KRUSHNA, Oh Yamunaji! kindly think well for the happiness of my mind. (4)

य य ा च र ण प द ् म ज ा म ु र र ि प ो ः प ् र ि य ं भ ा व ु क ा
स म ा ग म न त ो भ व त ् स क ल स ि द ् ध ि द ा स े व त ा म ।
त य ा स ह ् श त ा म ि य ा त ् क म ल ज ा स प त ् न ी व य -
ह र ि प ् र ि य क ल ि न ् द य ा म न स ि म े स द ा स ् थ ी य त ा म ॥ ५ ॥

yayā caraṇ apadmajā muraripoḥ priyaṃ bhā vukā
samā gamanato bhavatsakalasiddhidā sevatā ma.
tayā sahś atā miyā tkamalajā sapatnī vaya-
haripriyakalindayā manasi me sadā sthī yatā ma.. 5..

Who can compare with her, YAMUNA, due to whose association, Gangaji, the one emitting from the lotus-feel of Krushna could become affectionate to KRUSHNA and grant all supernatural faculties to her worshippers! If there is any one who could be compared with you is Lakshmiji - The Lotus - born, Who is also Krushna's beloved with a similar fortune. May SHREE YAMUNA, the one who end all ills of devotes of Shri KRUSHNA, always dwell in my mind and heart (5)

न म ो स ् त ु य म ु न े स द ा त व च र ि त ् र म त ् य द ् भ ु त ं
न ज ा त ु य म य ा त न ा भ व त ि त े प य ः प ा न त ः ।
य म ो प ि भ ग ि न ी स ु त ा न क थ म ु ह न ् त ि द ु ष ् ट ा न प ि
प ् र ि य ो भ व त ि स े व न ा त ् त व ह र े र ् य थ ा ग ो प ि क ा ः ॥ ६ ॥

namostu yamune sadā tava caritra matyadbhutaṃ
na jā tu yamayā tanā bhavati te payaḥ pā nataḥ .
yamopi bhaginī sutā na kathamuhanti duṣ ṭ ā napi
priyo bhavati sevanā ttava hareryathā gopikā ḥ .. 6..

Oh SHREE YAMUNA, | bow to you for ever. Your Character is divine. One does not have to under go torments of YAMA by drinking your water. How can YAMA kill his sister's sons howsoever BAD! Those who adore you become favourities of SHREE HARI (KRUSHNA) Just like the cowherd maids. (6)

न द ु र ् ल भ त म ा र त ि र ् म ु र र ि प ौ म ु क ु न ् द प ् र ि य े ।
अ त ो स ् त ु त व ल ा ल न ा स ु र ध ु न ी प र ं स ु ं ग म ा -
त ् त व ै व भ ु व ि क ी र ् त ि त ा न त ु क द ा प ि प ु ष ् ट ि स ् थ ि त ै ः ॥ ७ ॥

mamā stu tava sannidhau tanunavatvametā vatā
na durlabhatamā ratirmuraripau mukundapriye.
atostu tava lā lanā suradhunī paraṃ suṃ gamā -
ttavaiva bhuvi kī rtitā na tu kadā pi puṣ ṭ isthitaiḥ .. 7..

Oh Shree Yamuna, beloved of Shree Krushna! Let my body be renovated in your presence as with that, it is not difficult to get devotion for KRUSHNA the enemy of MURA. And therefore let there be your fondling for me. Ganga could attain fame in the world only after her marger with you. Before that none from the path of grace worshipped her at all. (7)

ह र े र ् य द न ु स े व य ा भ व त ि स ौ ख ् य म ा म ो क ् ष त ः ।
इ य ं त व क थ ा ध ि क ा स क ल ग ो प ि क ा स ं ग म -
स ् म र श ् र म ज ल ा ण ु भ ि ः स क ल ग ा त ् र ज ै ः स ं ग म ः ॥ ८ ॥

stuti tava karoti kaḥ kamalajā sapatni priye
hareryadanusevayā bhavati saukhyamā mokṣ ataḥ .
iyaṃ tava kathā dhikā sakala gopikā saṃ gama-
smaraś ramajalā ṇ ubhiḥ sakala gā trajaiḥ saṃ gamaḥ .. 8..

Oh Co-wife of Lakshmi! Oh beloved of KRUSHNA Oh the affectionate One! Whoever is capable of praying You! By praying Lakshmi with God KRUSHNA one gets happiness ending in salvation. But in your case there is much more. Those who pray You get close contact in respect of all limbs with particles of water sanctified by exotic Sports OF KRUSHNA with all cow-herd maids (8)

स म स ् त द ु र ि त क ् ष य ो भ व त ि व ै म ु क ु न ् द े र त ि ः ।
त य ा स क ल स ि द ् ध य ो म ु र र ि प ु श ् च स न ् त ु ष ् य त ि
स ् व भ ा व व ि ज य ो भ व े त व द त ि व ल ् ल भ ः श ् र ी ह र े ः ॥ ९ ॥

tavā ṣ ṭ akamidaṃ mudā paṭ hati sū rasū te sadā
samastaduritakṣ ayo bhavati vai mukunde ratiḥ .
tayā sakalasiddhayo muraripuś ca santuṣ yati
svabhā vavijayo bhaveta vadati vallabhaḥ ś rī hareḥ .. 9..

Oh Daughter of SUN, Yamuna, he who recites always with Joy, this eight - stanza hymn of yours, gets free from all sins, and surely attains affection for Shree KRUSHNA. With that he gets all supernatural faculties. Lord KRUSHNA the enemy of MURA is pleased. He conquers his own nature. So says the one dear to KRUSHNA, SHRI VALLABHA. (9)
