Don't show irritation

Public displays of anger are unacceptable and make the communication process unpleasant from the point of view of the Chinese - especially if the one who is angry is a foreign tourist.

Don't put your first name before your last name

In China, the surname always comes first. Family takes precedence over personality. If a new acquaintance introduced himself as Li Ming, you can safely address him as " Mr. Li" (not " Mr. Ming" ). The Chinese are generally not inclined to call each other by their first names. Only relatives and a few close friends can call him just " Min".

Take the food with the right ends of the chopsticks

One day, sitting down at the table with the hosts, you may find that there are no common spoons in the dishes. In China, it is customary to serve yourself (or others) by turning the chopsticks with the other end to put food on your plate from common dishes. And in any case, do not stick sticks in food, do not lick them and do not knock them. When you take a break from eating, put the chopsticks on a special stand near your plate. If the chopsticks are lying on a cup or plate, this is a signal that you are done with food.

Don't show up in China empty-handed

Having accepted an invitation to a home dinner, a meeting with a promising business partner, or for any other previously known reason, the parties usually exchange gifts as small signs of friendship and goodwill. Visitors are amazed at the number of gifts from Chinese hosts. It is best to stock up on a sufficient number of small gifts.
