The land and the people of Great Britain

I am going to speak about the state which is situated in the British Isles. The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The country is washed by the North Sea, the Irish Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

More than 56 million people live in Great Britain. People of different nationalities live there: English, Welsh, Scots and Irish. The official language of the country is English, but also people can speak Scottish, Welsh and Irish.

The United Kingdom is a parliamentary monarchy. London is the capital of Great Britain. The head of the state is the Queen. The Queen reigns but does not rule. The flag of the UK is known as the Union Jack.

Task. You are going to give a talk about the land and the people of Great Britain. You will have to start in 5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences).

Remember to say:

· the official name of the country;

· what it is washed by;

· people and languages;

· political system, the flag.

You have to talk continuously.
