We live in a strange time. Our time can be called the century of materialism. Nowadays tangible are valued more than the spiritual values. Money, money, money is the motto of the majority of successful people of our time. What is money? Money is power and glory. It means that the motives of actions of people are selfish. It is a frustrating picture, is not it?

In my essay I want to reflect on reasons that push people to some actions. Are we not appreciate such phenomena of our life as friendship, loyalty, love? I'll try to show you that no money plays a central role in our lives. This is the real story about the way how to say sweetheart, " I love you! "

This story started on the 5^th May 2000. That day a computer worm attacked tens of millions of Windows personal computers. The virus was distributed via e-mail as an attachment and was entitled " ILOVEYOU. " When the attachment was opened, the virus sent copies of the same e-mail to everyone listed in the user's address book. At the same time, it connected to a computer server in Quezon City, Philippines, and downloaded four executable programs onto the afflicted computer.

The author of this virus is Filipino student Onel De Guzman. There were a lot of versions why did he do this. Journalists wrote that the 24-year-old Filipino understood that the glory passes quickly. Like many young people of our generation, he wanted the whole world thought he was a great hacker - a master who can erase any computer into a powder. They believed that De Guzman started a dangerous game. He gave an interview in which denied that he spread the virus, but tried to take advantage of his bad glory. He wanted to be a part of the history of the Philippines.

He did not directly say whether he had written the " ILOVEYOU" virus, and said he was unsure whether he had released it into cyberspace.

When asked whether he might have accidentally released the virus, Mr de Guzman replied: " It is possible".

" We spend a lots of money to pay [for internet] accounts for only using a couple of hours, " he wrote.

" So this program is the main solution. Use it to steal and retrieve internet accounts of the victim's computer, " he added.

Эта темная история с авторством вируса так и осталась до конца не разъясненной. Впрочем, есть версия, которая связывает вместе очень многие моменты. Дело в том, что у Онела де Гусмана был однокурсник, некий Майкл Бюен, который входил в ту же хакерскую группировку.

В отличие от де Гусмана, у которого хватило ума предлагать в качестве дипломной работы вирус, ворующий пароли, Бюен написал вполне культурную программу и получил диплом с отличием. Но было одно обстоятельство — Онел и Майкл подбивали клинья к одной и той же барышне по фамилии Батиста. Де Гусман преуспел, а Бюен остался ни с чем.

И решил отомстить: на хакерских форумах сохранились его запросы о том, как можно взломать чужой почтовый ящик на сервисе Hotmail (именно таким пользовалась его несостоявшаяся пассия).

Далее ситуация развивалась, скорее всего, следующим образом: умный программист Бюен написал вирус, предназначенный специально для мести своему приятелю де Гусману. Более того, по-подлому использовал в нем разработанную де Гусманом же «воровскую программу». Затем, дождавшись окончания учебы в колледже (за такие штучки отличник мог лишиться диплома), взломал почтовый ящик его подруги Батисты и отправил с ее адреса вредоносную программу, замаскированную под «письмо любви». Онел де Гусман радостно открыл послание с заголовком ILOVEYOU и тем самым начал эпидемию. Именно поэтому де Гусман сознавался, что «ненарочно» выпустил вирус на свободу, но при этом не признал своего авторства: ведь он действительно стал причиной эпидемии, но только в качестве первой жертвы.

С тех пор прошло десять лет. В компьютерном мире вообще и в интернете в частности многое изменилось. «Дыры» в программной безопасности были ликвидированы, и тотальных вирусных «эпидемий» с миллиардными убытками не наблюдается уже достаточно давно. Но это вовсе не означает, что они исчезли навсегда: компьютеров становится все больше, и они проникают в те сферы, где ранее их использование было эпизодическим. А талантливых, тщеславных и ревнивых молодых людей в мире хватало всегда.

Further, the situation developed, most likely, as follows: a clever programmer Byuen write a virus that is designed to revenge his friend de Guzman. Moreover, in vile used it developed de Guzman as " thieves' program. " Then, after waiting for the end of the college (for such things could lose the Excellent diploma), hacked mailbox Batista and his girlfriend sent her address malicious program disguised as a " love letter". Onel de Guzman happily opened the message with the title ILOVEYOU and thus began the epidemic. That is why de Guzman confessed that " unintentionally" virus released to freedom, but it is not acknowledged his authorship: he really was the cause of the epidemic, but only as a first victim.

Since then, ten years ago. In the computer world in general and the Internet in particular, much has changed. " Holes" in the safety program were eliminated, and total virus " epidemics" with billions in losses not been observed for a long time. But this does not mean that they are gone forever: computers becoming more and they get into areas where previously their use was sporadic. A talented, ambitious and jealous of young people in the world has always lacked.
