1. OUR NATIVE LAND DONBASS.

Motherland! It is a great word. This is the place where our family lives, where we grow, learn, work. There are endless fields, pine forests, beautiful rivers. But each person puts his own meaning into this word. First of all, Motherland is our nation, our teachers and parents, our elder or younger brothers and sisters, close friends and good neighbours. These are our favourite poets and writers, artists and musicians. Each country is proud of its history, customs and traditions as well as we are proud of our Donbass.

We live in the Donetsk People's Republic, which was called Donetsk region until May 2014. The capital city of our Republic is Donetsk. This beautiful city stands on the banks of the river Kalmius. The biggest towns are Makeevka, Gorlovka, Yenakiievo, Thorez, Snezhnoye, Shakhtyorsk, Yasinovataya.

Donbass is famous for its industry. The coal industry is the main one in Donbass as well as metallurgy, building, coke, heavy engineering industry, electric power, transport. The monument to the miner is a visiting card of Donetsk and Donbass. As you can see, the miner is standing on a high pedestal and holding a piece of coal in his right hand. This is the main wealth of our region. There are a lot of historical, archeological and architectural monuments in Donbass. Saur-Mogila Memorial near the town of Snezhnoye is one of the most famous among the historical monuments of Donbass.

Our people are patriotic, generous and hardworking. They are also extremely proud and sensible, with a great sense of humour. They look on the bright side of life and often joke about their own troubles. They like good food, good company and good music.

“The wider we roam, the welcomе home”. This proverb reflects people’s thoughts and feelings to Donbass. Our homeland! We love it, we treasure it. We are proud of our land and we want to become its worthy residents. We would like the future generations to receive the same beauty of our native nature from us.
