While Kim Jong Un is reported to have had an operation, South Korean human right group say they believe Kim's younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, may be running the country while he recovers. Kim Yo Jong may be at least temporarily leading the government.

Who is Kim Yo Jong?

Kim Yo Jong was born in 1987 or 1988, and attended private school in Switzerland with Kim Jong Un. They both stayed at the North Korean embassy while attending the Swiss school and lived there under fake names.

Kim Yo Jong is the youngest of seven siblings their father, Kim Jong Il, had with four women. Many of them are half-siblings, but Kim Jong Un and Kim Yo Jong have the same mother.

After returning from Switzerland, she was appointed to positions of responsibility in the government. She would act as an advance-team leader, inspecting sites before official visits, and had administrative duties as well.

Now she continues those duties and has taken on more responsibility under her brother's rule: dealing with policy and receiving intelligence briefings.

If " diplomatic dance" were an event at the Winter Olympics, Kim Jong Un's younger sister would be favored to win gold. She officially represented North Korea at South Korean Winter Olympics.

With a smile, a handshake and a warm message in South Korea's presidential guest book, Kim Yo Jong has won the public on the first day.

" I hope Pyongyang and Seoul get closer in our people's hearts and move forward the future of prosperous unification, " she said in her guest book message, referring to the capitals of North and South Korea.

Seen by some as her brother's answer to American first daughter Ivanka Trump, Kim, 30, is not only a powerful member of Kim Jong Un's kitchen cabinet but also a change to the perception of North Korea as antiquated and militaristic.
