There are many others that are profiting from the love of this hobby. Manufacturers build a wide range of products including everything from the parts for the trains to the tiny houses and more. If everyone were to stop collecting model trains tomorrow, there is no telling how many people would be out of a job, not to mention how many businesses would shut down.
