Legislation - the set of laws that have been agreed by Parliament and implemented by the courts

Common law a law established on the basis of decisions by the courts rather than by statutes

Barrister - especially in England and Wales, a lawyer who can plead or argue a case in one of the higher courts
Solicitor - a lawyer who has passed the examinations of the Law Society and has a valid certificate to practice, who gives advice to members of the public
Advocate - a person, usually a barrister or solicitor, with right of audience as the representative of a party in a case
Judge - an official who presides over the court and in civil cases decides which party is in the right
Jury - a group of twelve citizens who are sworn to decide whether someone is guilty or not guilty on the basis of the evidence they hear in court
Lawsuit - a case brought to a court by a private person
Litigation - the action of bringing a lawsuit against someone to have a dispute settled
Constitution - the set of laws, usually written down under which a country is ruled
Parliament - the elected group of representatives who form the legislative body which votes the laws of the country
Law Society - an organization of solicitors in England and Wales, which represents and Regulates the profession
LSAT - Law School Admissions Test, used by law schools in the USA as one factor in accepting applicants
LLB - Bachelor of Laws; a university degree in law
LLM - Master of Laws; a university higher degree in law
