Summer holidays are wonderful. There are many long sunny days and there is no school. We make new friends and there are many interesting things to do.

Some of my friends spent their last summer holidays at the seaside, some in the city and some in the country. I spent last summer in the country and also at the seaside. I went to the Algarve. I always make new friends there. In the day time we played volleyball and football, swam in the warm sea water and sunbathed.

The beach is a traditional summer destination for thousands of people. The great variety of things to do includes sitting on the beach, sunbathing, surfing, walking on the sand, playing cards and beach volleyball and so on. As for accommodation people can stay in a hotel but it is also possible to rent a room or a furnished flat for a couple of weeks there.

Sea, sun and sand are the same but some people try to go to different places every year because they can visit other tourist attractions. Spending holidays 0n the beach is a great rest but many people combine sunbathing with visiting museums and places of interest.

In summer, my parents and I sometimes travel to a European country. We have been to Madrid in Spain and Lausanne in Switzerland. We have visited the most interesting places in both cities and I enjoyed my holidays. But mostly we spend our summer holidays in the country. In my opinion there is nothing like the countryside.
