You have received an email message from your English-speaking pen-friend Tom:

From: Tom@mail. uk
To: Russian_friend@ege. ru
Subject: Parents
... In Great Britain young people want to become independent from their parents as soon as possible. Could you tell me what you and your friends think about not relying on your parents? Are you ready to leave your family immediately after you finish school? Is it easy to rent a house or an apartment for students in Russia? As for the latest news, I have just returned from a trip to Scotland...

Write an email to Tom.

In your message answer his questions, ask 3 questions about his trip to Scotland.

Write 100− 140 words.

Remember the rules of email writing.

Dear Tom,

Thanks for your letter! It was nice to hear from you again.

As for your questions, I’ll answer them with pleasure. Actually, my friends and I find it too difficult not to rely on our parents when we’re only 17 but, at the same time, we dream of becoming independent. I’ve been preparing myself for the fact I’d have to leave my parents in order to get a good education in another city and that’s why I’m ready to move out of my parents’ house after I finish school. Well, it’s financially difficult to rent a house or an apartment in Russia, so students prefer to live in universities’ dormitories.

By the way, I have some questions about your trip to Scotland. How much did it cost? How long did it last? What famous tourist attractions did you visit?

Sorry, I have to go now. Write back soon!

Best wishes,

Asya

Imagine that you are doing a project on the sources of information teenagers in Zetland prefer using. You have found some data on the subject  — the results of the opinion polls (see the table below).

Comment on the data in the table and give your opinion on the subject of the project.

Sources of information Number of teenagers (%)
Web browsers
Peers
Family
Television
Periodicals

Write 200− 250words.

Usethefollowingplan:

— make an opening statement on the subject of the project;

— select and report 2− 3 facts;

— make 1− 2 comparisons where relevant;

— outline a problem that can arise with ways of getting information and suggest a way of solvingit;

— conclude by giving your opinion on the best way of getting information.

It goes without saying that nowadays it is very essential to be informed about the latest news and events in order to keep up the conversation and understand what is happening around you. The aim of the project I am currently working on is to discover more about it. As part of my project, I have found and analysed some data on what sources of information teenagers in Zetland prefer using.

Overall, it can be seen from the table that the majority of the respondents use web browsers in order to find out new information (38%). Apparently, it is much less popular with the teenagers to choose television as a way of learning something new (13%).

Surprisingly, only 6% of those surveyed prefer to read periodicals. By contrast, a much higher proportion of the teenagers find their peers as a source of information (26%, to be exact). There is a difference in the number of the respondents that get new information from peers and family, making up 9%.

Although there are many ways of getting information, teenagers can face difficulties while searching for it using web browsers. For example, they may find fake or incorrect data that will lead to problems with their work and studies and unawareness of real facts. I believe that the best way to solve this problem is to use only verified sites

In conclusion, I think that the best way of getting information is web browsers. Using them means that you will manage to find necessary information for free. Moreover, you do not have to spend your time because Internet provides you quick access
