A: Passports, please. B: I think I’ve lost the passports, Poppy. C: How stupid of you, Peter. Didn’t you put them in your pocket? B: Here’s a pen, a pencil, my pipe, a postcard, an envelope, a stamp, a pin. C: Oh, stop taking things out of your pockets. Perhaps, you put them in a plastic bag. B: Here’s your newspaper, an apple, a pear, a plastic cup, a spoon, some paper plates, a piece of pork pie, a pepper-pot. C: Oh, stop pulling things out of the plastic bag, Peter. These people are getting impatient. B: Well, help me, Poppy. C: We’ve lost our passports. Perhaps, we dropped them on the plane. A: Then let the other passengers pass, please. B: Poppy, why don’t you help? You aren’t being very helpful. Put the things in the plastic bag. A: Your name, please. B: Tupman. A: Please, go upstairs with this policeman, Mr. Tupman.
# 2 [b] Happy birthday! A: Hello, Barbara! B: Hello, Bob! It’s my birthday today. A: Oh, yes. Your birthday! Happy birthday, Barbara! B: Thanks, Bob. Somebody gave me this blouse for my birthday. A: What a beautiful blouse! It’s got brown and blue butterflies on it. B: And big black buttons. A: Did Ruby buy it for you? B: Yes. And my brother gave me a hairbrush and a book about baby birds. A: I didn’t remember your birthday, Barbara. I’m terribly sorry. B: Well, you could buy me a big bottle of perfume, Bob. A: I’ve got a better idea. We’ll get into a cab and go to a pub. And I’ll buy you a bottle of beer.
# 3 [t] In a Department Store. A: I want to buy a hat. B: Hats are upstairs on the next floor. C: Where can I get a hot meal? B: The restaurant is on the 13th floor. D: I want to buy some bootlaces. B: They are on the next counter on your left, dear. E: I want some tins of tomato paste. B: Try the supermarket in the basement. F: Could you tell me where the travel agency is? B: It’s right next to the cafeteria on the 13th floor. G: I want to buy a football. B: Take the lift to the sports department. It’s on the top floor. H: Could you tell me where the telephone is? B: It’s on the 12th floor, opposite the photographer’s. I: Could you tell us the time, please? B: Yes. It’s exactly 22 minutes to ten.
