FATHER’S DAY HISTORY ⇐ ПредыдущаяСтр 2 из 2
FATHER’S DAY HISTORY Father's Day is celebrated in a variety of ways, many of which are similar to mother's day celebrations. Cards, handmade gifts, breakfast in bed and best behavior for a whole day are all ways that children show their dads how much they care and love them. The first Father's Day in the United States was proposed by Mrs. John B. Dodd in 1909. Her father, William Smart raised six children alone after his wife died in childbirth. He was also a civil war veteran. Traditionally, roses are a part of Father's Day (nope, they aren't just for moms! ). Red roses are worn on Father's Day to signify that one's father is living, while white roses mean one's father has died. -------------------------------------------------- Father's Day in Canada, the U. K. and in the United States is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. In Australia, Father's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. Many Catholics call St. Joseph's Day, on March 19th, Father's Day because Joseph was the father of Jesus.
